Lush How It's Made: Dark Angels Face And Body Cleanser

For acne-prone skin, Dark Angels is heaven sent! Alan and Jeffrey from our manufacturing team show us what goes into this velvety scrub that’ll leave dull, oily and problem skin looking and feeling its best. It begins with Jeffrey adding all of the ingredients straight into a mixing bowl: Rhassoul mud and powdered charcoal help absorb excess oils and dirt, while giving your skin a gentle scrub. He then adds organic avocado oil to keep skin hydrated as well as a blend of essential oils (calming sandalwood and spicy rosewood) to give it a beautiful, delicate scent. The mix is pressed down, and scrubby black sugar is sprinkled on top before it gets rolled up and sent straight to our shops. Things are looking brighter already!

I used to love this so much...but the last 2 pots I got left alllll of the residue on my face and I had to scrub so hard to get off. Not sure if they changed the ingredients but I haven't used it since and won't anymore. Angels on Bare Skin is now my go to!
Taylor Durfee Same! Talik Same! The tiny powdered charcoal seeped into my pores and skin structure lines, and that's on top of the greasy residue no matter how hard I rinsed. My skin is like tainted black after using this cleanser and I had to use another foaming cleanser with a face brush to cleanse that off. Beats the purpose of a cleanser in the first place if I had to use another cleanser to clean it off.

Avalon+ s a m e . I started using let the good times roll after so I could rinse it off and it still wouldn't come out. I never had this problem before, it's pretty recent. I'm sad because this cleared my skin up so much but I'm tired of scrubbing my face sooo hard after I shower
Hi Taylor! All of our products are handmade in small batches, which means there can be variations between batches. We recommend adding a little more water to the mixture in the palm of your hand before applying it to the skin. Alternatively, you can always bring it back to the shop if you feel it's no longer a great fit and exchange it for something else. You could try Coalface, with many of the same ingredients, but it's a solid bar rather than a roll cleanser!

I have this cleanser and it literally SAVED my skin!!!
This was the first cleanser I bought from Lush and it's still one of my favorites (this and Let the Good Times Roll).
My only problem with it is that it leaves black patches on my face unless I use another wash to clean it off. It never did that with my first batch, but I don't mind.

just tone after with witch hazel
I love this!!!! I just can't use it alone. First I use this & after I use my prescribed acne wash. It's such a great combo and it works so well for me!! And yes if you use it alone it will leave residue on your skin.
I really wanted to love this product but it always left a thick greasy BLACK residue that I would have to use a different cleanser to get off my face. I'm so sad about it and wonder if it's always been like that??
Claire Van Hofwegen I feel like it's recent. I got my last pot in May and it was literally all residue. I ended up dumping it and use angels on bare skin instead!

This happened to me the first and only time I bought the product, which was just under 2 years ago.
I used to absolutely love this product. I've recently started to notice a change in the formula. I feel as though too much avocado oil is being mixed into the batches lately. I have tried adding more water to the point where it is almost just liquid and still end up with a stained face. I have to rub it off with a towel which irritates my face and defeats the whole purpose of the product. I really do hope the batches start being made the way they used to be.

Best Facial cleanser I've ever used hands down! Fair warning this cleanser purges the hell out of your skin, I went through several phases of purging before my skin cleared. It definitely takes patience, as for the residue left on the skin I tend to use hot water and the cleanser comes off easy but i always follow up with a toner to get any missed spots, from the scrub. Overall a very amazing and effective cleanser!
Pink Peppermint foot cream is my favorite product! I'm all for a pink peppermint how it's made!

I use this on y face in the shower. This way I can rinse it off really well. With the oil left behind - I don't have to use a moisturizer afterwards. Love this stuff!!

I absolutely adore Dark Angels & it makes me wonder why I didn't try it sooner. Also, my pot was made by Jeffery so it's really awesome to see him actually making it!
I had a bad batch of this and it tinted my skin black so i had to scrub hard. I love lush but this product is not my fav. Angels on my Bare skin is so worth it though!!

I love Dark Angels. Its not as harsh as Ocean Salt, and I also tried Angels on Bare Skin but it was too crumby for me, plus it doesnt exfoliate the way Dark Angels does !♡♡♡

This leaves a bad a black tint on my face but idc because this helps me a lot! I have bad acne and this helps me. After I use this, I just use my prescribed acne wash and the black tint disappears.
This stuff really helps control my blackheads. Super cleansing (and it looks and smells good too lol)
To all of the people complaining about the residue left after using it, I always use a face wash after. To me it doesn't defeat the purpose of the cleanser because I use it more as an exfoliant than anything. It cleared up my skin so much. It also helps with acne on my body. I know it won't work for everyone, but it's great for me, especially when I use the mask of magnaminty after. If you still have some left, I encourage you to give it a chance. I have combo skin btw.

I love these series! Would love to see how the solid cleansing bars are made, particularly Fresh Farmacy.
I absolutely adore this cleanser! Its is great for oily and blemish prone skin without super drying (but definitely use a moisturizer after!). If anybody still has black left over I use a toner after and any lil bits still there gets wiped right up :) it also helps I use a face scrubby that gently scrubs

I have a few questions about the products you guys have. I have combination skin, where as my nose has blackheads and white heads where it’s oily. the rest of my skin is dry and red from my keratosis pilaris. my cheeks are also sensitive to certain products. is there anything you recommend to keep my dry skin moisturized after washing while also getting rid of my blackheads and white heads and maintaining my pigmentation? Ahhhhhhhhhh I love this product sooo much! It works great with my skin type and doesn't leave that tight feeling after. Though I didn't have much luck with my first batch I've found that using warm water and less product works if you usually get residue. I seriously can't recommend this enough for anyone with oily skin. Also the video was one minute and twenty three seconds long which made me really happy for some reason.

I love lush products but whenever i would use this product there would be this black oily residue that would stay after i washed my face .. i was very disappointed.. needless to say I've only bought 2 pots of this and came back to my fav product, the mask of magnaminty that work like wonders for my acne prone skin
