I am very thankful for the adventures that you guide us in. I am 51 and a medically retired guy. I have been fascinated by the British canal system since my younger days and saw them on tv. I may never make it over from Arkansas to GB to see them. I love the railroad lines, tunnels, underground places thst you visit. Its been fun and a blessing to see all of it. Thanks a million! A big fan of yours.
Thanks I really appreciate your comments, I know they are so, grateful and that's great and makes all my filming worthwhile. Part 2 continues the journey but by kayak to make it more interesting, see you soon, all the best Pat
I agree, I think a lot of people would like his format. I do. I used to like watching Fred Dibnah, for same reason. Interested in something that I am too, and format is much more personable than much of TV.
Hi Patrick, I am from the USA and I appreciate you doing your videos so I can see other places in the world that I will probably never see in person. I like how you film your videos and how you explain what is going on in the videos and what is going on around the areas.
Really enjoyed that Pat, your one man film production is amazing. That you for taking the time to do this. I also owe you thanks for inspiring me to wild camp. This week my 12 year old lad and I went on our second camp to Kinder Downfall, still a bit nippy at night but with video's like yours around we had the knowledge to do it in comfort. Thanks again, look after yourself.
Greetings from Chicago Patrick. Yet another great video. I love the way you incorporate history into your work, especially the tribute to the armed forces of that generation , men and women whose terrible sacrifices are all too forgotten in this age. Thank you, Neil
Hey Patrick, I live near the Lehigh and Delaware canals in Pennsylvania, I have always been interested in their past and fascinated by the way the locks worked. Unfortunately most of our canals were not maintained and allowed to go dry. Your explorations of your canal systems make me envious to get on a canal boat and see where it goes. I hope that you recover from your thyroid operation and get your voice back to full strength. Your videos are always looked forward to, I never know where your adventures will lead us. Thank you.
Hi Joseph we are luckly our canal, s are looked after and maintained and many people do use them, part 2 will see me take to the water in my kayak, should be interesting, thanks Pat
Pat, you are an inspiration ! I so enjoy your videos of the beautiful peaks and the fabulous city of SHEFFIELD. I used to live in Crookes in Sheffield, and have since moved away and miss the place, however, thanks to you and your videos I am able to get my 'fix' of the old steel city and its surrounding countryside ! I have also been back recently and replicated the pub crawl you did a while back and consumed too many beers from abbey dale breweries in the Norfolk Arms !! All the best, Steve B
Hi Steve and really glad my vidios are keeping you in touch with your old city. The beer round here has certainly improved over last few years with many new breweries and micro pubs, all the best Pat
Hi Sandy, yes to think this area was the industrial heartland of Sheffield, you can easily feel you are in the middle of the countryside now. Should be entertaining in part 2 as I take to the water in my kayak, all the best Pat
Hope you have a speedy recovery. Awesome videos over the years Mr Dickinson. Love the railway, camping and waterway stuff, and all the light painting. Keep up the great work!
Hi Patrick. Only found your channel recently. Fabulous. Love it. You explore all the areas I used to as a teenager. I'm living abroad for almost 30 years now and the memories just come flooding in when I see your well presented exploits. You are one of the wonders of Sheffield. Long may the recording gods shine upon you sir.
Thank you for the kind words and its great that it is bringing back memories, Sheffield is changing with construction work all over the place with major works going on around the Moor area, hope to bring you more about the canal soon, thanks Pat
Thanks for the reply Patrick. I'm looking forward to the rest of the canal video. When I was an early teenager I used to walk my dog along the canal and I am more familiar with the canal basin end up as far as where the running track was built years ago for the Student Olympics. Thanks again for creating magic with your camera. Funny fact...... I do lots of work for the business next door to megaflash technologies. Really nice bunch of lads. Take care.
Great video pat. Not been on that canal for many years, brings back memories of me with my dad spending the day fishing and cycling there. Pat Keep up the good work and hope you have a speedy recovery.
Thanks Pat for sharing a lovely canal walk and for all the historic information in spite of the voice issues. They ought to make you a tourism ambassador for Sheffield! Look forward to part 2.
Very interesting Pat. My old man was also in the RAF. He flew as a navigator in a Beaufighter out of North Africa during the war. They were brave men in the RAF.
Hi Pat, Many thanks for all of your fascinating videos- I’ve only recently found your channel, and so far it’s been an absolute pleasure to follow you on your walks through Sheffield history, to see you camping in such fantastic locations, and hear and see your adventures! I look forward to having a few spare minutes in order to get to see another of your videos! Sending lots of good wishes your way, and hoping you’re making a good recovery, all the best, Neil
Thanks for those comments, the Sheffield canal seemed a good place to recover, nice and flat, plenty to film, feeling a lot better now so back to some proper exploring, thanks Pat
Great video photography it make you realise how much work went into building these canals. People take it for granted when they see a canal and don't think twice about how long these took to build with out todays machinery. When your stood next to that lock you look so small it makes you realise the scale of these things. Thanks for sharing such a Historical look into the canal looking forward to seeing the next part. Take care
Thanks David yes we are lucky to have all these massive structures from our industrial past still with us and places we can use for leisure. Just walking along the canal is a pleasure with so much to see and so many people to talk to, all the best Pat
Hi Patrick. you never cease to amaze me. I hope you getting all over the health issues. I am delighted you presented this video. I live down under but Welsh born. You do such a grand job.. Cheers.
Of your voice, I'll only say that I appreciate how clearly you speak such that even a Yank like me can understand you in some of the noisy environments you encounter. Even here you manage to speak well and I appreciate it. I'm fascinated by Britain's canal system. It's not something that's been done in the US to anywhere near the extent that you've done it there and I don't really have a point of reference for understanding the full benefit of canals in the UK. It also amazes me how there seems to be a whole subculture that's developed on the canal system. I also appreciate the WWII history connections. You all were certainly in the thick of it there. My grandfather was a Pearl Harbor vet, a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy. It was the closest we got to being attacked although Hawaii had not yet joined the United States. I was in the Marines myself and came to London with my unit to participate in the 100th Royal Tournament. I was fascinated to learn that roof of Earl's Court where we stayed was used as an air raid lookout. I enjoyed exploring that building and am kind of sad that it has been torn down.
Thanks Jim for your interesting comments, everybody of our age seems to have connections to WW2, it just shows how it affected everybody at that time. Great story and really appreciate your comments, thanks Pat
Another good production Pat. Thoroughly enjoy your many various video adventures that you tend to get involved in and excellent research taken. Looking forward to part 2.
A very high quality video production! This canal system is extremely beautiful, peaceful and relaxing as presented here. The high standard of engineering is visually beautiful; the bridges with their scenic brickwork , graded banks through forests, well-kept canal edges, the sturdy lock gates and carefully constructed culverts are very impressive. Just the peace of the location is amazing! Your videography is professional and artistic. Views are always thoughtfully framed. The history given in concise delivery adds vastly to the interest! The whole production has a wonderful flow and continuity one might expect of a major television video with a large crew of camera people, audio, lighting, directors, and various hangers-on, all costing tens of thousands!! It is amazing what one clever and skillful person can do! There is not much scenery like this in my small northern Canadian town, but one can see so much in your excellent videos that I feel I was there! Thanks for your hard work!
Thank you for such a complimentary message I really appreciate it and it sort of makes all my time filming worthwhile We are very lucky to have a lot of our industrial past left, major part of it built in the 1800,s and still in use today, thanks again and all the best Pat
I've nearly watched all your videos and this one doesn't disappoint. My mother was from Sheffield and my brother lived and worked there for many years. Looking forward to part two. I wish you a speedy recovery Pat. Thanks for showing me Sheffield.
Well done Pat. I enjoyed your video immensely; especially the family history. The English people truly showed their courage: 1939 thru 1945. The greatest generation. I've watched videos of living on the canal boats. Yes, very pricey indeed. I cannot wait for part 2. Thank you!
Patrick, you have the most amazing content ever. I am richer in life for having discovered your channel, mate. Just brilliant presentation. I never listened to my mum either, so best wishes and a speedy recovery to you. I'll tip a pint for you, sir.

@@patrickdickinson6492 it does have alot of history all around just a shame it's not appreciated by more, but keep it up Patrick it's helped me get on my feet and explore.👍

You are a top man for doing these and look forward to working my way through all that you have done in no particular order. Good job top man.
Thanks Box, nice of you to say and hope the vidios make you feel like your are there, sorry about the delay in answering, just going through comments I have missed, thanks Pat
Always another great video I truly enjoyed your choice of music very relaxing. As another commenter stated being from the US I will probably never be able to see these things in person just grateful for a person like yourself showing us the sights of your country thank you.
Hi William I,am very happy to bring you film of my city of Sheffield, part 2 should be interesting as we take to the water in my kayak, all the best Pat
Cracking video, as usual Patrick. I love walking along the Leeds/Liverpool canal on the Burnley to Skipton stretch when I cant get out on a camp. Fantastic pieces of engineering and amazing history with all the canals.
Hi Patrick, Just wanted to tell you that you have been the main inspiration for me getting into wild camping. I’ve been camping with the scouts since I was 6 and I’m 25 and a scout leader now but new to wild camping. I first caught your first ladybower plughole vid after I visited it last year, since then I have watched all your videos multiple times and I love all your camping and exploring videos- well anything you make really. I’ve been on two wild camps in the last month with a friend and this week I’m attempting my first solo wild camp on Kinder(sure is nice getting away from the kids!) Canals are another passion of mine so I was thrilled to hear you were making this video. You’re the only person I subscribe to on TH-cam as love ALL your videos. I want to wish you a full recovery and I look forward to your future videos, all the best, Jack.
Thanks for those kind words Jack, yes I was in the scouts and loved every minute of it. Was still going on Dad's and Lads camps a few years ago and brought back many happy memories. Hope the wild camping goes well, and see you on part 2 when I,ll be taking to the water with my kayak, all the best Pat
I only discovered the channel today and what a find...videos are so addictive and brilliantly presented.i know little of the Sheffield area and not much about its industrial heritage so a lot of the content is new to me.which makes the videos even more interesting.thanks for sharing patrick
Hi Shaun, hope you enjoy my channel, content does vary, alot of underground exploring at the moment, but some wildcamping, train travel and pubs usually thrown in, thanks Pat
The us is such a young country. In a historic village that was founded in 1791. Love your exploring these places and actually sharing the history and importance.
Hi Pat, I've watched and enjoyed all your videos and thoroughly enjoyed them, so I've been eagerly awaiting the next one and you haven't disappointed. All the best from Scotland.
Hi Pat, I love your videos, you got me into camping again, and appreciating the beauty on our doorstep, I’m from Glossop, over the moors from you. Best wishes .
Pat where would we be without you facts and information second to none the rivers canal outer areas of sheffield,Megatron ,camping God bless you mate loved ever one of your videos
Thanks Jimmy, a memorable part of the videos is the research, a part I enjoy reading up before I even started filming, in fact all parts are enjoyement, thanks Pat
Thanks Noel, bit more exiting in part 2 as I take to the water in my kayak. Such a beautiful place to walk, you feel you are in the countryside, not a city, all the best Pat
Hi Pat, greetings from sunny Malaysia. Fasinating and highly informative video - as always- of the Sheffield and Tinsley canal. Many happy memories of canal boat holidays on the Norfolk Broads and Bath and Avon canal in the 90s. Your walk made me think of this essential part of a bygone transport network in the UK. So relaxing to follow your walk along the towpath.. Looking forward to watching part 2 in the kayak. Keep up the brilliant productions and wishing you a speedy recovery. Cheers
Another great video Pat. I’ve enjoyed a walk there a few times at different times of the year. Certainly gives you a different perspective of Sheffield as you walk along the tow path. 👍 M
Love your videos, keep at it please. I am exactly the same age as you, born in 55. I wish I had your get up and go but second best is to have the adventure in spirit as I follow your travels on your channel.
Hiya Pat, Just wanted to say what a brilliant video and looking forward to seeing you again in part two. The Sheffield Canal is on one of my walks to do list, so now that summer is on it's way (hopefully), I'll be able to get out for the weekends and do the walk from Sheffield Victoria Quays all the way to Rotherham. The Sheffield Canal walk is a lovely industrial walk and that's the type of thing I enjoy. On another note sorry to hear that you've been poorly recently, wishing you a speedy recovery, so we can have the old Pat Dickinson back. Get well soon Pat. All the best from. Mike.
Hi Mike you will love the walk such alot to see from remnants of our industrial past to nature, and so many people behind want to talk. Hope you enjoy it, all the best Pat
I’m so excited for part 2. I’m a Sheffield girl myself, however I have been living for a few years now abroad. Love your videos! You really make Sheffield and its surrounding areas so interesting!
Hi Claire, as you live abroad hopefully my vidios bring back happy memories. The canal is becoming more popular to walk and Victoria Quays very popular now, will be showing all these aread in parts 2 and 3. Nice to talk to you, Pat
Hello Patrick, so glad you have the courage to investigate such out of the way waterways although this one was a dawdle for you. Thanks for being an inspiration to those of us who wish we had your courage to explore. I am sure a lot of us appreciate the apparent risks you take, but I think you know better!
Enjoying your videos, you come across as a down to earth, trustworthy and decent man with good morals. I watched your Ladybower dry glory hole exploration video first and found it very interesting. All the best for the future, keep making interesting content and stay well. Cheers 🍻
Hi Pat, Great memories of playing by the canals near where I was born in Hemel, Grand Union Canal I think. Later on I lived almost right on the towpath of the Portsmouth and Arundel canal, although the canal was long gone apart from the sea locks, the towpath is still there and it still lives on in the names of the roads and one or two pubs. Thanks for the video and look forward to the next episode in the canoe Good luck from Spain!!
Wow! Bring us more! I greatly enjoy all of your videos. Your cinematography techniques of placing your camera and then walking into and through the scene creates a very enjoyable viewing experience for the viewer. I too, am a retired electrical worker. I was a licensed Senior Reactor Operator/Shift Manager in a nuclear power plant.
Hi Patrick. Very interesting video and I really enjoyed this one and some history which was so interesting. Looking forward to next 2 videos. Happy you got out and had fun too. You take care Patrick!
Thanks for this vlog Pat, brings back some great memories of my youth. Growing up in Darnall I spent many happy times playing and cycling up and down the canal. Hope your feeling much better after your op.. 👍
Wonderful video as ever Patrick, love walking the canals myself they are interesting places look forward to seeing you in part two, and future videos take care,
Great video Patrick, I've spent loads of time on the canal fishing and walking,I love to see the history and remnants of times gone by, I've walked beyond where you started to Rotherham which is interesting too. Keep up the amazing work and I look forward to the next one
Hi Luke yes lovely area to walk you would not think you were in a industrial city, apart from the continouus drone of traffic. I ll have to walk the bit to Rotherham, all the best Pat

Hi Patrick,
Just wanted to tell you that you have been the main inspiration for me getting into wild camping.
Sending you lots of healing vibes, take care and I wish you a speedy recovery.
Thanks Ian, very kind, Pat

Hi Shaun, hope you enjoy my channel, content does vary, alot of underground exploring at the moment, but some wildcamping, train travel and pubs usually thrown in, thanks Pat
The us is such a young country. In a historic village that was founded in 1791. Love your exploring these places and actually sharing the history and importance.

Cheers
Thanks Razif for those really kind comments, glad it brought back some happy memories of your holidays on the canals, all the best Pat
Excellent video, Patrick. Thank you. I particularly liked the muriels.
Thanks Peter, yes they look very artistic, quite a few more at Victoria Quays which we will see in part 3 ..... thanks Pat
Another great video Pat. I’ve enjoyed a walk there a few times at different times of the year. Certainly gives you a different perspective of Sheffield as you walk along the tow path. 👍 M
Totally agree, you would not think youwere in a city, and so peaceful, thanks Pat
Love your videos, keep at it please. I am exactly the same age as you, born in 55. I wish I had your get up and go but second best is to have the adventure in spirit as I follow your travels on your channel.
Great that you follow me on my adventures, got some great locations this coming year, see you there, Pat
Thankyou for all of your very informative, well presented videos. My daughters (3yrs & 4yrs) and I love watching your videos! Keep it up :)

Another great video. Thanks for sharing this adventure with us.
Hiya Pat,
Just wanted to say what a brilliant video and looking forward to seeing you again in part two.
Thanks Bob, yes a bit of a stroll this one but it suited me at the time. The kayaking added a bit of excitement though, all the best Pat
Another great history lesson thank you Patrick... look forward to number 2👍🏻

Enjoying your videos, you come across as a down to earth, trustworthy and decent man with good morals. I watched your Ladybower dry glory hole exploration video first and found it very interesting. All the best for the future, keep making interesting content and stay well. Cheers 🍻
Take care; a lovely Spring day here in Sussex, I hope that the coming summer months will speed your recovery. Thanks for the video, really enjoyable.
Thank you Glynn, very kind of you, Pat
Hi Pat, Great memories of playing by the canals near where I was born in Hemel, Grand Union Canal I think. Later on I lived almost right on the towpath of the Portsmouth and Arundel canal, although the canal was long gone apart from the sea locks, the towpath is still there and it still lives on in the names of the roads and one or two pubs.
Thanks for the video and look forward to the next episode in the canoe
Good luck from Spain!!
Yes this was something a little different and due to problems with my thyroid it was a esier set of videos to make....thanks Pat
Thanks for sharing this ones a lot sunnier than your normal tunnel adventures keep em coming

That's a fantastic canal. It looks really well maintained.
Thanks for the video Pat...really enjoyed it.

Geoff
Thanks Geoff
Hi Mark yes similar jobs, thank you for you comments Pat

Hi Luke yes lovely area to walk you would not think you were in a industrial city, apart from the continouus drone of traffic. I ll have to walk the bit to Rotherham, all the best Pat
Thank you Pat. Very informative and interesting.
Hi Michaela, your welcome, thanks Pat
Another mega interesting video. Nice one Pat. Been over the viaduct in a car transporter 100s of times and never noticed the canal! Looking forward to part 2.
Hi Paul yes definitely keep your eyes on the road when on the viaduct. It's the first view that many people get of Sheffield, not it's best, thanks Pat
Enjoying watching your travels..Im in Coronavirus lock down in Florida. Saw your videos before and re watching with husband. I lived in Sheffield from 1980 to 1989 and visit often. My brother lives there,
Nice to hear from you in Florida, like you we are in lockdown at the moment, very worrying times, although I don,t personally know anybody who has had the virus.
The canal was a enjoyable place to walk and kayak, so much of Sheffield's industrial history, take care, all the best Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 hi Patrick..we also lovely the pub crawl and when we come to sheffield you can give in recommendations..my brother lives in the wadley bridge area. I lived at halfway when I was there so I'm not as familiar with the areas you cover. We planned to come this fall but as my plans in may fell through to see my daughter in maine well have to do that instead. My perfect thing would be to rent a home a month a year in England to get back to my roots. Love your video thanks for making them
