Sounds like classical way Gaia die to Thor/Odin. Way too weak in early game can't stop 2tc and age3, and way too weak in late game to kill rag. Surprise 2024 the worse civ in the game is still not buffed.
People only know how to call Gaia OP and have that as an excuse to not change the god, but no one would ever pick her in a grand final when money is on the line in a competitive 1v1 setup....
It's a sad truth of rts in general, can't fight without resources, and gold starve is a sound strategy. Spam a few more heros and Charioballistae and it might jave worked. The other option was to boom, throw up walls to protect your own economy, and tech to a rag hold.
