  • Sunday December 11 2011 at 9.05 am. The 8.52 Woking to London Waterloo (10.13) train pulls into Chertsey station. This level crossing with the footbridge and station to the right looks very similar to Addlestone level crossing where the train was 3 minutes earlier. In fact the barriers here must have lowered before the train left Addlestone station as 90 seconds of the wait has been cut and its still a lengthy wait. The line here seems pretty straight so if there was a problem at the crossing a train driver should be able to spot it and stop his train as he is going so slowly anyway. Therefore the barriers could be lowered later. There seem to be some level crossings where there is no chance of there being an accident and others, mainly on high speed lines, which seem dangerous. Chertsey is a small Surrey town 20 miles south-west of central London. The railway line meanders for 26 miles. The platform is short so longer weekday trains stop on this crossing.
