I remember when i broke with my ex girl, this song just appeared on my feed at the middle of the night when i was just going to cry, i listened to it and i really didn't pay atention to the lyrics, just the guitar, bass, drums... We hadn’t seen eachother in years and it was during that short lull in covid before the summer hit, so we both wanted to get out of the house a bit. while we were driving to the beach i put on this song, cuz i’d just found no vacation a couple weeks before. we both really liked it and must have played it like ten times on the way to oceanside and back. we had still been good friends but our time together that day re-sparked our friendship and she’s one of the most important people in my life. almost three years later i still get that feeling i had then every time i hear this song, the one that reminds me of falling asleep in the passenger seat on the way home from the beach, with sunsetting over the horizon. regardless of what the original intent by the band is, this song will always represent a different kind of love for me, that non-romantic relationships are just as important and profound. me and my friend live far away but thru all of it we’re still closer than ever, and whenever we find a way to meet up this song is guaranteed to be played. yam yam always brings me right back to that beach. art speaks to us in so many ways. love you all, can’t wait to see you in february ❤
