there are a few things that fascinate me as an euro about americans 1) u guys are driving at 16, knowing that is risky, without universal healthcare or a need for an insurance 2) u guys allow any sociopath to carry a gun, while u don't have a systen that would cover for their damages to people (like healthcare) nor institutions to help the mentally ill 3) u guys can sue anyone for pretty much anything and ask for a gazillion millions
They have to drive at 16 tbh USA is very car dependent most cities and towns are not pedestrian friendly a lot of residential areas don't even have paths (sidewalks)
As a sociopath owning a gun i say it is mostly ok. Psychopaths with guns is a terrible hazard, they are more impulsive and tend to act on intrusive thoughs

arent they also drafted into the military while still being fairly young, based on their age-system? long before they are allowed to drink alcohol to drown their misery? I know that some, not all, US-states have 21 for adulthood, but i think i heard that military drafting is around 18? Or was it even earlier? So wouldnt that mean that technically, at least in some US-states, they train child-soldiers? Im probably wrong. an US-citizen should be able to correct me.
09:18 "When you realise that technically, the US is older than the UK" - UK established in the Act of the Union 1707 - USA established in 1776. There is no 'Technically older US', the UK is officially older as a nation.
@Clery75019 It's worse than that: after the counties that became Northern Ireland ceded and were recognized, we became the UK of Great Britain and Northern Ireland only in 1922. We've only just had our official Centenary! (Mind you, on the same basis, the modern USA was only ratified in the 1960's on the joining of Hawaii, so we are still older than them!)

My mother was a librarian in a city court library in Hungary (where only lawyers and judges could borrow books for their work). They had original law books on display that were older than the US. They were once shown to American guests, who said that such books would be behind bulletproof glass and guarded by armed guards in the US.
My mom's also a librarian, and she said the same thing. Americans are always so impressed with the 100-200 year old books. Then she had a Chinese group....

@@Transautistic. ..getting close to 30+ years now in Flint, ..and many other long term redstates/redcounties too have big big water problems swept under their rugs too !
Food and water are obviously not "human rights". You cannot state something is your right if another person needs to provide it to you. If there is no food or water and someone needs to go work to get some, how can the fruit of their labor be your right? That's called slavery. Obviously providing clean water to people is part of the responsibilities of government and you pay taxes so they can do the work necessary to provide the water. But that is not the same thing as "human rights".

I have heard of a story about an American living on rent in Bulgaria. There was this time when he became so angry that he punched the wall and broke his arm in the process. He then wanted to sue the landlord for making the walls thick on purpose, so he wouldn't be able to break it. Seriously, there are times when I fail to comprehend how stupid a person can be to actually think something like this to be possible. There’s a reason we have Swedish jokes in the rest of Scandinavia: Once upon a time, a Swede, a Dane a Finn and a Norwegian were out in the forest for a walk. The Norwegian was deaf, the Dane was blind, the Finn was mute and the Swede was paralyzed from the waist down and in a wheelchair. After a while they came to a magical cave in the forest, where each of them could have one wish fulfilled. The Norwegian entered first. After a while he came out and happily exclaimed, "Guys, I can hear!" After him, the Dane went in and came out just as happy: "Guys, I can see!" Then the Finn went into the cave, after some time he returned and shouted: “I can speak!” Last but not least, the Swede rolled in. After a while he came out and shouted: "Check guys, new wheels!"
Sweden is not good at assembling IKEA furniture, they can't even assemble their own 250k+ Islands. Sorry, that was a bad joke, I'm not Scandinavian, so screw it :D

The American voting system promotes a two party (Yes/No) choice by making it more difficult for small parties to sustain themselves. I think that's what the meme was trying to say.
Yes, america is basically a binary system in politics and funny enough there is not ONE single point where reps and dems agree. It's amazing to watch honestly
but while we may claim the moral high ground, all of the parties that have been in power the past decades all have more in common than they don't. and all will partner up with the same partner unless they really have to. for a really long time it was a government of either red/green or black/yellow. As always ignoring the commies. the times we tried any other coordination they struggled to come to a conclusion , sometimes going as far as consideriing re-elections due to their inability to cooperate. Winning over 5% to get seats in the government requiers media backing and funding. the biggest media outlets are all owned by people with connection to the industry, and so the parties that will statistically get more presence in the minds of people are those, that benefit who ever's got the media outlets in their pockets. If someone else makes it into the government, like the left, they are simply being denied cooperation. can you really, truly say we have a system that leads to more than two choices in germany? To be fair, at least we have a couple cases of exceptions. And our government is not yet as dismissive of human rights as that of the us. But we're getting there. it's the same same but different

I'm italian, so i don't know about the rest of europe, here you can get a car license at the age of 18, however for motorbikes it works differently, there are 3 different licenses, from the age of 16 you can drive motorbikes up to a maximum of 125 engine capacity, from the age of 18 you can drive almost all motorbikes but with some limits, from 24 years old (or 20 if you have already had a license for two years) there are no longer any limitations

18 is also the age for a car driver's license here in Finland, but a person turning 17 may seek a special exception for it, if they need it for work, school, sports practice, hobbies, or other such provable reasons. Based on your comment, motorbike license rules seem the same. However, even for those 50cc mopeds/scooters you need a license here in Finland if you were born in 1985 or later. American chocolate makers process the milk via lipolysis, which adds butyric acid, which is also found in some cheeses. They also add less cocoa and more sugar/artificial sweeteners than European chocolate makers, making the US brands taste sweeter but less like 'real' chocolate.

American living in EU (Lived in different countries) From EU Perspective: Driver License: 17-18 years old. Drinking Age/Beer culture: 15-18 years old. Drink responsibly is what I tell my kids. (I live in Scandinavia.) It's less of a hassle and problem if they have freedom because that gives them the option to try things out without doing anything illegal in the process. The sense of doing something taboo enhances the willingness to do it, in certain contexts. Voting system: US voting is archaic, antiquated and outright blocks out more options to ruling and prosperity. Multi-party systems are better as they're more focused on issues, than Right vs. Left. Water in EU = In general much much clear. (EU you pay for water because of the cleaning and maintenance) Water in US = In general chemically infused with chlorine and whatnot, needing to buy/install filters. (US also pays for water, but generally bottled not tap, AFAIK) F vs C: Fahrenheit is nonsensical. Celsius is logical and simple to learn. 0 Celsius water freezes. 100 Celsius water boils. 36-37 Celsius is regular human body temperature. Relationship EU vs US: Strained for the most part, but honestly, we're more nervous of US culture seeping into EU than anything else. The wokeness should stay away. Flag culture: It's different from country to country in EU. Most nations are happy to flag away, but no one is unfurling their flag constantly. Some places they're used to denote/mark birthdays, deaths, holidays etc., other places they're imperative to Football games (soccer). It depends really on the country. From EU perspective, the US idolizes their flag too much. Gives Nazi vibes. EU vs US Chocolate: Mmm... EU wins, hands down. So many brands and so much history. I mean, I can get Belgian chocolate any day of the week... not good for the figure, but heck tastes amazing. Metric vs Imperial: Hmm... Metric makes more sense but... the EU still uses inches for TVs and Rims :P Nice vid.
UK here 👋 I agree with all points listed here with some additions. 1) I tried US chocolate recently and found I couldn't actually taste the cocoa in it and that it had a aftertaste I can only describe as what I imagine clay tastes like. 2) Here we use both imperial and metric and can switch between the two fairly effortlessly (although I personally usually default to imperial distances and weight) and let's not kid ourselves we use inches for more then tvs and rims... 3) Although there are multiple parties that run for government it usually boils down too the big two, but maybe that's just here because of how the seating system in the houses work 🤷♂️

@@smaragdwolf1 But that's only if you don't consider how to get the gradient water to home and what to do with it afterwards. For example water used for cooking is not usable for either of this things, even if it started on highest grade, you can't use it for gardening too. You need to filter and clean it before using it on other purposes. And then you need a source of that 2nd grade and 3rd grade water. From where did it come? Do you triple plumbing on whole city level to do it, and even then how it's 2nd grade and 3rd grade made? And then what? Because you would have to have separate filtering facilities with less filtering levels depending on grade. You can't just stop in the middle of standard process to create half-filtered water. And then it's a matter of scale. It's always more efficient to filter water in big facility then in thousand homes separately. The only sensible thing i know is just collecting rainwater so it's not drained immediately through sewage systems and use it to watering gardens or cleaning.

9:32 In 1536 Wales was formally integrated into the Kingdom of England. Since 1541 the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of Ireland were ruled by the same king, but remained separate countries. In 1649 the monarchy was abolished (after the war between parliament and King Charles I), and Lordprotektor Oliver Cromwell ruled the Commonwealth of England, which united (after bloody wars) England, Scotland and Ireland as a republic, but in 1660 the monarchy was reinstated and the three countries became again their own kingdoms under one king. By the Act of Union 1707 the first United Kingdom consisted of England and Scotland, and in 1800 it became by the second Act of Union the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. In 1776 the declaration of independence got the title "Declaration of the thirteen (!) united States of America". So the UK is technically older than the US, if you count the inclusion of Ireland as similar to e.g. the conquest of Texas by the US.
Speaking of freedom of expression and flags. I really like the line as it are drawn in Denmark. Danes rightly are proud of their flag (Dannebrog). An old nation and their flag are the oldest national flag in the world in unbroken use. In Denmark you can protest and burn the Danish flag BUT it are against the law to burn other nations flags. That way Danes can fully use their freedom of expression internally but chose to show respect to other nations potential pride in their flag and nation. This does not mean you cannot protest other nations. Just that you cannot burn their flag. I think that are the right balance in these both woke and extreme opinion times. in context of everyone being insulted, my sister was in Vienna and it was windy so she put her scarf around her head. Then she saw a muslim woman with their hair-hiding attire and thought that is she being rude for covering her head with a scarf while not being muslim. I think it's just rediculous because it was windy and everyone should be allowed do keep themselves warm if they want.
and if you asked the muslim ladies they would be fine with her wearing a scarf. The thing with Americans is that they get offended on behalf of groups they don't belong to, without even asking that group if they find the thing offensive or not.... There's a guy on youtube who dresses in cultural attire in various countries and asks locals if they find it offensive, because in Amurrica it's considered "cultural appropriation". Guess what, those locals were all happy a foreigner wanted to try their attire on... Americans should mind their own business and not create problems where there are no problems.... This cultural appropriation idiocy only exists in the USA...
Hello, I really don't know where comes from this urban legend about paying for water in Europe. Tap water is just free in any restaurant, bar of pub. In France, since 2012, all public places (shops, offices, etc.) also must provide access to tap water and glasses to the public for free. Actually only US tourists pay for water ! 8:33 I love how you're offended to hear a swear word. It's so common here in the media, I wonder how can Americans can feel free as they can't even swear in public
In Germany you are generally asked to buy water. Demanding tab water is at least heavily frowned upon and will often be denied. Obviously not in case of emergencies.
@@xfranczeskax ok, good to know. But actually in Germany as soon as you're old enough to stop drinking milk, you would drink beer, so tap water is useless 😆
@@xyzxyzxyzxyzxyzxyz Quite a few restaurants charge for it in Finland as well, something like 50 cents. In the English language, you do not "make a joke" (a typical Germanism, directly from "einen Witz machen"), you instead "tell a joke" ("einen Witz erzählen"). You can, however, "make a joke *of* something or somebody" ("sich über jemanden oder etwas lustig machen") or "make *up* a joke" ("sich einen Witz ausdenken").
Everybody can make jokes about WWII. It actually shows you know something about it, cause making jokes is difficult. There are some very dark jokes about it. The U.K. was offically formed with the Act of Union of 1800, which incorporated Ireland.and entered into force from 1801. The previous Act of Union of 1707 turned England, Wales and Scotland into a united kingdom as a constititional monarchy.
Umm.. England + Wales + Scotland I think was Great Britain (if not mistaken). also UK full name is still United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northen Ireland
You're very right, I also think it's all about the combination. You gotta get a grip on your alcohol and learn to drink responsibly - if you even want to - before you should be able to drive. I remember how I was allowed to sip the foam off of my dad's beer when I was a little kid and always got some sips of wine or champagne on Christmas or New Year's. To this day, I don't really care for alcohol. I guess because it was just never made out to be this super mysterious Nepenthe ...
Just a heads up before you go start repeating that the US is older than the UK. The UK was founded by the Acts of Union in 1707 when Scotland and England joined into a union, 67 years before the US was foundedn in 1774. So the meme is wrong. Most likely the original creator had assumed the UK was founded in 1922 when Ireland seceded and the name changed.
I thought so too. If we would go by that standard The US age would reset the day they acknowledge Puerto Rico as a state or Spain if Catalonia gets independence.

And yes our legal age of drinking and buying alcohol is 18, but by 18 a lot of people stop drinking or refrain from drinking much, because we started early and had our fun. I started drinking at 13, i'm 18 now and only drink in family reunions or gatherings at a walking distance from my house. Plus at around 15/16 years old drinking with the consent of parents is a thing here. Most parents know their kids drink.

3:27 I mean, technically providing water is a public service so you first pay for that service, even if you don't pay they can't cut off water (it's different from electricity). But if water is bottled, than you are paying a private company who makes the plastic bottle and distributions in general. If you go somewhere and you ask for a glass of water from the sink (if it's drinkable water) they will give it for free, but we aren't really used to it. There are some places where you can find refillable bottle water (made of glass), but are still kinda rare. And we also have public fountains in parks, where you can refill bottles of water or drink directly from there.
Not sure if american chocolate is waxy, but quite a bit of american milk chocolate is preserved using butyric acid (because that's the procedure invented by Hersheys and Hersheys got a government comission to supply the US military in one of the world wars, meaning lots of soldiers found the flavour nostalgic and wanted to have it when they got home) which is the chemical responsible for the characteristic smell and aftertaste of vomit.

The motorcycle licenec is an EU thing that the UK still use and in the UK you can dr8ve a car fr9m 17.
American living in EU (Lived in different countries)
From EU Perspective:
Driver License: 17-18 years old.
(US also pays for water, but generally bottled not tap, AFAIK)
F vs C: Fahrenheit is nonsensical.
Metric makes more sense but... the EU still uses inches for TVs and Rims :P
Nice vid.

@@PinnacleNL Water is the most strictly controlled Food in Germany^^
But i agree.... we still waste precious freshwater on watering our gardens, washing cars and other stuff.
I saw a documentation about self-sufficient homes. They had several levels of water-quality. From cleanest for food-preparation and drinking, to showering and cleaning clothes, then using it for the toilet and watering plants. Filters of course, but the water would get dirtier with time.... would still be good enough for certain purposes.
There are still options to use water more efficiently.

And the last state joined the US in 1959 so discussions like this can always go round and round.
@@assassinlv8274 Great Britain is actually the island of England, Scotland and Wales. The name of the state was Kingdom of Great Britain.

by "all right, we get it" about politics, it was basically saying that U.S. politics are only right side, even your left is right leaning.
Same here. I tired drinking, but it just aint it. More of a burning then taste, so i stick with tea instead.
2:30: In whole Europe I can't tell, but in France and most countries, it's 16 for driving lessons, and you can take the practical test for your license when you're 18.
In France we have an other thoerical exam, which is the road code (that you normally take at 16 yo, beforehand any driving lessons).
2:35 v Evropě je to podle státu nejčastěji 18 let a u nás nově od 17 let s dozorem řidiče co řídí déle jak 20 let (Česká Republika národ milovníků alkoholu)
The punch in the wall meme is because in America you have houses made of cardboard and in Europe we use bricks instead
America has buildings that are made out of bricks. I wouldn’t say that it’s common everywhere in America but it’s enough to say that America has buildings made of brick and therefore do have strong buildings as long as you look in the right place.
@@rose_galaxy425 I imagine it's primarily about climate and building what fits it. Europe is at the same level as Canada and northern US so we actually have to deal with a lot of cold weather. US meanwhile spans from southern Germany down to Sahara desert so you definitely want houses that you can cool faster.
2:58 By European (and pretty much anywhere) standards, US politics is all right parties, as there's no left in sight, that's the joke.
This actually is a good reaction; you stop the videos often and actually comment! I like it.
Greetings from Germany (the nation which is allowed to make WW2 jokes)!
Well, if Germany is allowed to make WW2 jokes, then Poland is more then obliged to make them.
in Portugal you can start taking the drivers license at 17, but only if your 18th birthday is like 6 months or less away, and you can only actually drive at 18, plus we can get our motorcycle license at 16, but you're only allowed to drive 125cc motorcycles, with time you can "upgrade" the license and drive other motorcycles.
7:40 it's 9mm because 9mm parabellum originates from Germany
really good memes;) Greetings from Europe (Poland)!
How is the US older than the UK? The Act of Union was 1707. The Declaration of Independence was 1776
Full name of the UK is "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland", this name only existed since 1927
@@lukeboulter8735A name change or a change in territory doesn't mean it's a new country. Then the US would only have existed since 1959.
@@xyzxyzxyzxyzxyzxyz We didn't change our name. Only gained territory. When you change your name you also go through other government processes that fundamentally change your country in the governance level.
The fact you think it is a technicality shows a lack of understanding of the huge task that is changing the name of a country. Changing different pathways, offices, connections, headings, ensuring laws fit (and yes Britain's own laws changed in that name change), update to code enforcement in all sectors. It is a total overhaul of the government. It is not just a simple name change on maps and documents.

Actualy you can make WW2 jokes pretty normal in Germany even if you are not from Germany. I know that as a Czech who is often in Germany (our neighbour). Same as its normal if Germans are making jokes about us Czechs.🙂 Its just fun!🙂
The kids making the most absolutely heinous WW2 jokes at my own high school in America were all very sarcastic, funny, and from Jewish families. Admin didn't really know what to do, so they mostly got away with it.

3:14 this may be the dumbest USA vs Europe meme I've ever seen. Americans do pay for water (just not at restaurants), and Europeans do pay for healthcare (by paying taxes).
4:20 I can confirm!! Ow...
6:38 no, not even germans would make fun of WW2. If we'd be talking about lacking technology in offices and schools, fine. The difficulty of learning german, sure. But not WW2, there is nothing funny about it
European chocolate - yummy.
American chocolate - sugar flavoured vomit.
Saying "Sonovabitch" without spaces while talking to a skinwalker is a certified "Supernatural" reference.
I am from Europe and I really enjoy this content!!
You don't notice it when you grow up on it, but if you've only ever had chocolate that was preserved using more modern methods, it tastes utterly disgusting.
i wanted to try american chocolate but i think i will stick to my sweet swiss chocolate
I never thought of the driving / drinking age thing that way but it actually makes sense...
Hi, Ryan! I think in germany there`s the opportunity to get the driver`s license with 16, but then driving is exclusively allowed with a adult person (with driver`s license) next to you. At the age of 18 you can get the driver`s license regularly.

3:05 the joke here is that both big US parties can be viewed as right wing by Europeans
I would call the Democrats center-right (they do have a wider spread). But yeah, they are not left.
@@etherealicer yes, this is partly why I dislike the whole left-right divide to begin with.
@@sztallone415 Yeah, if you are missing a point of reference it looses meaning. In most European countries we have a larger number of parties and then the left-center-right scheme can give you a broad overview. But like with every generalization, you have to take it as that.
For me (in Switzerland) it is mostly interesting to see how broad acceptance on initiatives are. E.g. coming Sunday we are voting on an energy bill that is opposed by both the green-liberals (center-left) and SVP (our most right main-stream party). That, to me is an interesting alliance that needs to be dissected. Same with labels/names, I mean Green party gives you a general idea but it is not the end all, mean all. Again the same bill is advocated for by the Green Party (left), but as I already mentioned, opposed by the Green Liberal Party.
In summary: It's usually more complicated
9mm is metric because the germans developed it. It used to be called 9mm Mauser but it got renames to 9mm Parabellum because the Mauser company was disbanded. Ever thought about the pistols that nazi villians use in movies? Yes that Mauser company!
In my country (Slovakia) you can drive from the age of 17 with someone who has valid license for atleast 10 years and is legally registered as your “supervisor” but normally when you turn 18
In Slovakia even dogs on snowboard can drive, lol (only Slovaks will get the reference, lol) 😂
3:31 water is free here too (the Netherlands) our tap water is amazing and very clean (I however don’t like the taste of it in every part of the country, but love the taste in my city Almere)
Same thing here in Italy, we have like some type of fountains were you can drink free, clean tap water
I mean, New York at least had the decency to call itself "new".
There's several places in the US that call themselves "Old Salem" which is kind of ironic, considering that they're some of the newest Salems on the planet.
And then there's also complete rip-offs. Like, if you look at the disambiguation page for Hamburg, there's 21 different places calling themselves Hamburg in the US, and a few other ones that used to be called Hamburg.
Harlem. OR Haarlem as the original city is called.
1:45 lmaooo as a european online gamer, france is definitely on that list
In Europe most people say the French are rude and Brits ugly, and that's fine. Even if it's an unfair generalisation. 😅 Remember we've been killing each other for centuries. Being unfair to one another is nothing compared to how we "interacted" until a few decades ago.
You can ask for tap water anywhere in europe and for free, they will also ask if you want ice in it.
And in Paris it will be with a disdainful smirk ^^.
not really, they are not obliged to do that
in fact, many eateries here in Greece have stopped giving free water, you have to pay for the bottles
The 2023 Drinking Water Directive states that all member states must promote tap water including in public spaces and restaurants. Other EU countries already served tap water long before that like Spain, former EU, the UK and many others.
not anymore in switzerland . Because the water price went up and a LOT of people would order a glass of water with coffee or else to just abandon it now we pay 1chf per glass and 50cts for a 1dl syrup

UK since 1707, USA since 1776... am I missing something?
The U.K. is older than the U.S. To say it didn't exist before the addition of Ireland is wrong and ignores the fact that only a small bit of Ireland is still part of the U K.
The term "United Kingdom" was adopted in 1801 when Ireland was united with Great Britain, it was called "Kingdom of Great Britain" since 1707 till 1801, then "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland" since 1927, then "UK of GB and Northern Ireland" till now.

Despite the joke, the USA is actually the only NATO country to have called on Article 5 for military support from other members (after the 11th September attacks).
This is due to the US already joining up the moment any other country makes military action. The support is already there.
