Great water container. Used one for years. Although, the spigot design can collect dust and dirt especially in the inside position of the container. I always wrap a plastic bag around the lid with a rubber band.

The manufacturer says these are not meant to be stacked when full. They'll spring a leak eventually and is not covered under their 5 year warranty :(. Also they're currently $12.99 on amazon.

I chose to go this method because I got them at a good price, and if you have to evacuate your home, it's easier to take a few of these along then try to muscle a 55gal drum of water out to your vehicle. Not saying a 55 gal water drum isn't a good thing to have, but at least with these, you got extra water, and they are portable. A plus if you got to bug out.
I have 6 and paid under 15 bucks each w/free shipping.

Not in the long run. Bottle water usually has a 1 year shelf life and is not BPA free. These containers can be used over many cycles. Plus, if you run out of water and need to collect some from a local source, it would be much easier to use these containers compared to bottled water.

Very good container so far. Rounding the corner on year 4, stored in basement, and no leaks.

Nice review, and thanks for the Wallyworld reference. All of the ridgid water containers made by Reliance are made out of HDPE, which is a compound that has never contained BPA. This makes it a very good choice for water storage.
As someone else has commented here, the manufacturer indicates that these can be stacked only when empty. They should be stored out of direct sunlight, and in an area that does not freeze. A root cellar would be ideal.
Reliance does make other containers that are designed to be stacked vertically. The Aqua-Pak can be stacked 2 high, the Water-Pak can be stacked 3 high, and the Armadillo can be stacked 6 high (but that would be 67.5" tall, which is rather unwieldy for such heavy containers when full. I don't think I would want to go above 4 feet high without a rolling stairway, given that you will want access when you may not have lighting or electricity.

You do need to worry about those dents on the corners, that is the area where they crack when they are stacked. Mine did.

I would recommend you get O-Rings to help the spigot seal to the cap. If you tighten the spigot enough so it doesn't leak, the plastic cap cracks. The O-Ring will keep it from leaking and give you some latitude with the spigot position.

Tom Martin If this is a chronic problem with these, why doesn't Reliance include the danged O-ring???

My only thought is that they may have done this to save money since its already food grade and BPA Free. The dent made from stacking is not that bad after having 60 pounds sitting on top of it. However, I would not stack more than two total. Thanks for watching!

My main issue is the exposure of the spigot when stored on the inside. No cap to protect or keep the inside clean.

I have one myself. I agree with your review. Just wondering how many I should have? I do have cases of bottle water and a "Berkey" water filter system so I can collect rain water if I need to.

I recently purchased three (3) of this containers. When filled with water and in the horizontal position for use with the spigot I have found that all of my containers leak via the threads of the high point vent or the threads of the spigot. I have attempted to seal the leak path with teflon tape with no success. Have you experienced any such leakage?

lol i bought this for $20 from gander mountain. how does it do in heat? i live in texas and i want to leave this on my flatbed so that i could have running water on camping and fishing trips. would the water have a plastic taste if the water container heats up?

tony tran I know this comment is old, but if anyone is interested, you can make a cover out of a dollar store windshield sun blocker and duct tape. Could double layer for better protection and to keep water cooler, too.

I purchased about 40 of these after the storage containers I used before that, most of them ruptured last winter.
Don't ever use the 5 gallon water bottles you buy at most stores, because they don't survive the cold. I will see how well the Aquatainer does this winter.
Mine are stored on shelves, but You should never have any kind of leaching of water. Perhaps you are talking about condensation. There is no way around that, even on shelves of plywood they all got condensation on the outside. That's simply a fact whenever you have variant temps on the inside vs the outside of the container.
You can take advantage of it. If they are stored on a shelf that is part of a water collection system, you can add fresh water, even if there is no rain. Great for drought situations.

When i screw in the tap it doesn't stop in the upright position. Is this a manufacturer defect?

    • @taradead
      @taradead 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Teflon tape on the threads (and/or an o-ring) will allow you to get a downward facing leak-free seal without tightening the spigot down all the way.

These containers have very thin walls and will not hold up.
