Comforting A Dying Rabbit - A Documentary
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 26 ก.ย. 2024
- A young wild Cottontail Rabbit died in the Backyard and I was privileged to share its final hours. When one spends a lot of time with wild animals it is hard not to find inspiration in the dignity and stoicism they display in the face of severe injury or death. This rabbit had a one-eyed sibling that is was very close to - they and their family are shown in happier times toward the end of this video. The events shown in this video happened over approximately two hours. These rabbits are relatively rare Appalachian Cottontails and live at near 4000 feet elevation in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina.

I torture myself too...alot of crying. I watch alot of these videos too.
+Crazy Funny Cats probably the biggest heart if that's what that means. I agree 110%♥♥♥
Well, this one shows the best side of humanity IMO. It is sad in a way, but not so much as when a beloved pet dies. It's all part of nature, and he happened on it and did some good for the little guy in the end.
Reese Plunkett it's okay to cry, but as long as you be happy at the same time.

I left him some trail mix and another cheerio and went on. I’ll never forget that mouse, I was happy to meet it.

This is my first time seeing this, 6 years after the upload and I am in tears. Roughly around the time this was uploaded, maybe take a year, when I was 17/18, a friend at school trusted me with a rabbit they couldn't keep anymore, she was the only rabbit I ever had. I named her Lily and I loved her so dearly. One day when I was at school, someone had opened the gate and door leading to my room, and our large dog had gotten around and somehow opened the cage door and chased Lily all around my room. I came home to the gate opened, bedding all over my room, things severely out of place and tipped over. I found Lily hiding in a pile of my clothes in my closet. She was rapidly breathing clearly in shock. She didn't have any marks on her but I knew from the scene the incident stressed her out. I took her to the vet and they said she would turn out okay, and I wanted to stay home so badly but I had to work, so I entrusted my mom to care for her during my short shift until I got home. I came home, my room dark, and Lily was dead. All alone in her cage even though I begged my mom to just hold her and leave the dog outside as it was cool and she could've. I cry every time I think about it because I wanted to be there for her so terribly and she died alone. We buried her in the backyard and I will never forget her.
I'm so sorry your family had no regard for your little fur baby. I've learned over the years to never trust ANYONE with any pet of mine unless they're an avid animal lover like myself. My worst fear has always been some jerk opening my door or bedroom door and my cats getting outside and never coming back. If that ever happen I'd have to be very careful around the culprit who opened said door because I'd go into an absolute rage. On the other hand there is the despair and sadness when the pain is internalized because you were helpless to do anything about it. While that is horrendous to endure, it's the only civilized option quite honestly. And some people use that in order to teach themselves to never allow such a situation ever again. BTW I'm not saying any of that as blame to you - you had no idea. Just relating how I've been through a similar situation and the pain was just too much.
What's worse is then you had to be around that dog still and deal with your mom's callousness (or so I assume). I hope you never had to go through kind of pain again. It's beyond unbearable and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. Although I believe it's a way many of us animal lovers learn that keeping a pet requires much more than just love. You have to ensure it's in a safe and healthy environment where such things can't happen again.
Thank you you for sharing. The world needs more empathetic people like yourself and less of the emotionless ones that simply view animals as things to ignore or abuse.
omg the ytber still active on commenting on this vid@@phyrr2
I'm so sad and sorry for you and Lily. There is nothing probably that can make you feel better but I think the vet was wrong, and that the stress did kill her, just not immediately. Maybe having someone with her would have helped, but maybe not. Rabbits are so delicate in many ways. But I am so sorry for the pain and grief you are experiencing. I wish there was a way to take it away from you. Time DOESN'T heal all wounds, but they do become more bearable.

When I was in high school I got a pet rabbit. I was there looking to get gerbils as my old ones had passed away and I was looking for new pets. The store was out but they had this young black rabbit that looked just like the one in this video except for its coloration. I named it Mel and he was my buddy for SOOOO many years. I got him as a pet not knowing much about rabbits. We had a special connection and he ended up living a very good long life. In the end he got lethargic like this rabbit was and we knew his time was coming to an end. We took him to the vet to see if we could do anything and they said it was just old age and it was "her" time. We had been told wrong by the pet store all those years prior and our boy was a girl, so Mel became Melissa on her last day. She passed away peacefully in my arms and I've missed her ever since.
the Kingdom of GOD is coming…“Silver is for the kettle, and gold for the furnace, but The LORD is the tester of hearts- Bible” your heart is like discovered silver, dirty and not pure, when silver is purified it is melted over and over, to the point that when it’s melted and glows red hot, it is pure enough to see your own reflection in the puddle, so also does the LORD purify your heart, till HE can see HIS own reflection in it, seek the LORD and be reborn, ask The LORD to renew and restore you, repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins, Jesus died so that our sins will be wiped away and so that we could be made new, if would be wise you would be wise for yourself, pick up your cross and deny your flesh and follow the path of GOD, for The Kingdom of GOD is at hand, in JESUS MIGHTY NAME Amen and Amen

🥺
To the person who filmed, you’ll someday meet the rabbit again, hopefully not for a while though. I hope the rabbit had as full of a life as possible in the rabbit wild and made many friends along the way. I am inclined to believe that the Rabbit comprehended and appreciated the comfort in some of his final moments. Rest In Peace little one, you’ve touched the hearts of thousands and we wish one of us could have shielded you from your trauma that caused your passing, but you had a caring man to comfort you and I hope that invoked feelings of being cared for by your parent when you were young. im dying on the inside. I lost my bunny this morning. I fell asleep watching TV last night. Clyde jumped on the couch with me and tucked himself into my armpit. I woke up and scratched his head gave him a kiss and fell back asleep. he snuggled so close to me it was awesome and he seemed so happy. I rescued Clyde a year ago while I was doing door to door sells. he was being chased by 2 small dogs so I scared them away and touched his head and he seemed tame. I picked a dandelion and waved it in front of him and he graciously accepted it. after munching he put both his front paws on my leg which were Indian style. I knew I made a friend. I must have knocked at least 40 door asking if anyone owned a bunny. to no avail I couldn't find his owner. I decided I was going to call it a day from work and put him in my big carrybag after taking my belongings out. he came him with me and I decided he should go outside. he made himself a burrow under my shed and seemed so happy. he came inside quite often but he loved being outside. over the months he would come running to me everytime he saw me it was so cute to see his gleeful face. he slept in bed with me alot and watch TV with me. sometimes he would sit above me on my couch cushions and nibbled my hair. last night we had our routine cuddle everything was perfect. after I woke up the second time I got up and went to bed. he followed me into the room and hopped onto my bed and tunneled into my blanket like usual. I gave him one more kiss before falling asleep. this morning when I woke up he was on my pillow already ready for food. I filled his food bowl and he ate while I had my cereal. I always let him see out my front door by opening it so he can see out of the storm door. I began getting ready for work had my shower brushed my teeth pick my outfit and combed my hair. while doing my hair I heard a loud screech and freaked out an ran to Clyde like a mother hearing her child scream. he looked completely fine. I went back to getting ready when I heard the scream again rushing to him again to find him perfectly fine. as I finished getting ready for work I propped my back door open so Clyde could make his way outside. this morning I noticed he wasnt going outside. I decided to go get him a put him outside. seeing him by the front door he was on his side he always lays down by the front door where a sunspot is coming through the storm door. as I got near I noticed he didn't react or even look when I called his name. I went to wake him thinking he was sleeping. as I almost picked him up I noticed he was not breathing. I panicked scooping him up in my arms in tears at this point just trying to get him to wake up or something after about 3 minutes I realised he was gone. I still have no idea what happened and im devastated. I want to hold him right now its almost time for bed and I don't know how to go without him. I feel broken. 😢

Thank you for showing kindness to this bunny . A few months ago a young die and her fawn came to our land in a group of many. The mom was badly injured by a bear trap and had lost a back foot. The game commission wouldn’t intervene, unless she would be so lethargic and we want to get her killed. We didn’t want this. We’ve been told she could survive maybe and that’s best for her baby. I started feeding her. First I left food at their spot but threw it, so I didn’t need to get close. She was afraid but ate the food. I fed her and gave her fresh water. The other deers sometimes went away for a day or two but always came back to her and her baby. She nursed her baby and it’s so much bigger now. She now gets food from me directly and even nurses next to me. During a storm last week, they came under our porch, for shelter. Her injury is healed . Of course she’s missing a foot and she’s slower but she does get around way faster than I ever hoped. She runs again, even if a bit slower but she keeps up at her best ability. She doesn’t leave our property. I hope she and her herd will stay because I fear for her during the hunting season. We think about building a run in shed for them at the other end of our property, close to the woods. It is such a special experience, to get to know a wild animal. I hope that I would be able to comfort a dying animal as well, if it comes to it.
What an interesting story. Thanks for sharing. BB

@GeeZee its hard to be optimistic if you know how many asshole's there are on this planet
@Reunite The British Empire There are exceptions to every rule bro, he's just stating that the majority of human kind are just that, selfish, and self-serving (same thing really), while often only "helping" others, when it benefits them in the endgame, cutting others off almost immediately after gaining what they want, or knowing they'll never get it. I've been the recipient of this very type of human habit for many years in my past, and learned from it, but have not grown cold to those around me, but you do start to keep your guard up, for the next being trying to take advantage of you. Lomek455 you shouldn’t eat meat from a sick animal, you can catch a lot of nasty diseases that way. He just wanted to let it pass in peace.
I like how this rabbit didn’t die horribly or in a bunch of pain, just peacefully died being comforted.
This rabbit was lucky. A lucky little bun.
Way better than other ways of dying.
I would rather do it this way than hearing myself doing the death rattle.
100% the bloke made it worse. You can't "comfort" a wild animal, they have absolutely 0 understanding of what being stroked means. As far as that Rabbit was concerned it was dying and it was about to be killed by the person touching it.
When you got a bad headache or are severely sick extra movement makes the whole experience even a bit less pleasant. He might of thought he was helping but the rabbit would have already been comfortable and he just was disturbing it. They are used to being on the floor sleeping and don't need a blanket to stay warm as they are always in the open air so this could have made dying hot and less pleasant then it already was. It even tried to move away when he kept touching it, it didn't like it and wanted to be left alone.

This video makes me realize how life can be so short. I’m afraid of dying and I also want to feel safe and comfort when I die. I’m still young (17) but every now and then I just think about death. It’s something we can’t stop. And I don’t think there is any way of stopping it no matter how good our technology advances. Thank you for comforting the dying bunny. You are a good man and have a kind soul.
I'm not advocating drugs but try doing DMT it is scary as hell but you always come back. that's the lesson
The life we have is borrowed. We didn't give it to ourselves and we can't cling to it, either. All we can do is be careful stewards of it. Eventually, though we will lose it. BUT, all is not lost. The Author of Life can reanimate and resurrect us. History shows He did it Himself which demonstrates that the same can happen to us IF we let Him transform us into people who will be happy living forever in His presence. That's the condition. The natural, fleshly, "normal" life must be surrendered and put to death. We let Him do a heart transplant and choose to let Him place new desires and affections in our minds. If you're willing to do that, you can have assurance that the One, Jesus - promised to humanity from before creation - whose Name is above every other name and who already rose from the dead, WILL raise you as well. When He gives you assurance of that, death won't have the same power to frighten you because it's already been defeated. I pray that you seriously think about this because it's your only hope of getting off of this little ball of rock in space alive, your only hope of eternal life, and your only hope of true existential purpose and significance.
@engle42085 Um...you are advocating drugs and when you surrender your normal conscious experience for something extra, you are granting permission for malevolent interdimensional beings to fill your brain with their "lessons" aka propaganda.
Death is the cherry on top of life mate. Without it life would have much less value. The most important thing is to enjoy your life the best you can without hindering others enjoyment of their’s, no matter how short or long it may be.
@@monboze9572 You're missing something. It's not that you've said nothing true. After all, in the immediate sense death *can* help humans appreciate the life they have. But, in the ultimate sense, it robs their life of all meaning, especially if the universe is destined for heat death. The first reality is lousy comfort for the latter. "The living know that they shall die, but the dead know nothing." Ecc. 9:5.
While you have the ability to think, don't use the time to ignore your eventual death. Instead, "Teach me to number my days." Value the life you have now AND protect it against ultimate loss by accepting the guarantee of eternal life through what Jesus has done.
God bless you, dude. Being that kind hopefully made the end a little less scary for him. And Even though it was “just a rabbit”, no one should be alone when they die.

@@HowieHoward-ti3dxpff, once they are like this there’s literally no saving them anymore. They’re already dead, my bunny died yesterday the same like this rabbit. The moment they completely stop living (eating, drinking and fearing) is the moment they’re dead. There’s no point in taking the bunny just to take away it’s life between concrete walls full of fear instead of just letting it go in peace. It’s hard but these guys sometimes just die and there’s nothing we can do about that. It’s the same for human patients, once a patient says he’s gonna die doctors take that very seriously cause most of the times the patient actually will die especially if there’s no panic in their voice or any emotions left. They’re imply dead and I don’t think there’s a vet in the world who could help that guy. After all in most cases once symptoms of any sort of illness arrive there’s not much you can do except help the body but since the body is already shutting down there’s no use. You can see it in their eyes that they’re dead

This happened to me, too. A few months earlier, my dog got into a rabbit’s nest, but she was luckily not a killer and simply held the baby bunnies. My mom took them inside and put them in a shoe box to rest, hoping that in the morning she could place hay over the nest and put the babies back in until their mother came for them, and that’s what she did. Every now and then, I would get concerned the rabbits weren’t alive or something, and I went outside around midnight and would see the bunnies hopping around my backyard in healthy condition. One even came up to me and licked my finger.
A few months later, I hadn’t seen any sign of them, and I had pretty much forgotten about it, until one day, a teenage rabbit was sitting in my backyard. Just like usual, my dog ran towards it, expecting it would run, but stopped when it didn’t. I was confused and went outside, too, sitting in front of the bunny and even offering it some lettuce, which it chewed on a bit and spat it out. I didn’t know what to do, so I called my mom out, and we put the rabbit in a plastic box with some warm blankets to rest as we drove it to a wildlife rescue center, and unfortunately, it died the second before we got there, but the worker there said it was about the age we found the babies, meaning there was a possibility it was one of the rabbits that came back to the place it was born to die.

I remember she put them in a empty candy can as she got them out. By the end there was probably 4 or 5 fat worms. The rabbit was "better" but he was still a wild rabbit, who basically was a feeding ground for fat worms for a while. So better was a stretch, he was still very much suffering from being a to go breakfast lunch and dinner for a while. I remember my sis told her teacher about it when she went to school, the teacher was very kind to take on the responsibility of the rabbit. She took the rabbit to the vet.
