  • To some growers, it’s an old idea; to others, it’s completely new. The concept of peola - intercropping peas and canola - has been around in Western Canada for decades, but with new varieties and weed control options, the practice seems to be gaining momentum again.

    I had never heard of intercropping until a broadcast recently on the BBC's Farming Today radio programme. When it is time to harvest the mixed crop, is this simply bundled together and processed for animal feed, or is it possible to separate the peas (for example) from the canola?

      Most intercrops are separated right off the truck -- sold as individual crop!
