My non expert take from being there. UCF guards were *allowed to get away with attempted assault, holding, blocking, hip checks, they even tried to take Mags shorts down. Which did lead to a technical on UCF, But the slight got Mag out of his mind mad, and then he exacted sweet revenge. It was so cool to watch Mag in timeout, pacing behind the BYU bench, just steaming, it was awesome to see that fury channeled into daggers from behind the arc. I was screaming “ Ritchie” Poly level pitch and volume from a few rows behind our bench every shot he took. Keba is a man….. the blocks at the end, not shown on most replays were so intensely disrespectful, omg. Crowd was loud, but it fell silent in disbelief. Keita He moves his feet on D so athletic and intimidating. So glad we have him. Student section is loud there. Wow. Cool crowd, only one “ eff the Mormons all night lol. But they were leaving at 3:00 minutes to play. On a night when our guards struggled mightily we won on guts and D. The halftime adjustments were so perfect, I think we made UCF go 1 of 8 possessions scoreless to open 2nd half Go Cougars ! * refs were completely different in 2nd half. Called every little thing on both sides.
As I have maintained: Kevin Young is a better coach than Mark Pope. It took a while to get things going but look at the ability to make adjustments to what the other team is doing. One of the most frustrating parts of Pope's teams were that he didn't deviate from the course. Kevin has shown the ability to adjust on the fly
Can someone tell me where is Brandon Dunson? I haven’t seen him on the bench for 4 games now (didn’t go back any other games to check). Is he in the “booth” or something?
the dude in street clothes mouthing off to Keita was Jaylin Sellers, a punk from last years team that lost his starting role to Keyshawn Hall but has been injured this year since Nov.
Big 12 is so focused on having the most physical league in the country… then it gets out of control and the refs swing to the other side of the pendulum and turns all ticky tack. It creates an unbalance between talent and experience. In unfair tilt towards experience and upperclassmen who have learned what they can get away with. Makes for a less satisfying product and is a large reason why the SEC has passed the big 12 as the best basketball conference. It’s better basketball and more NBA talent. Unchecked physicality does not equal toughness. It needs to change.
Claiming that BYU "dominated" UCF is absurd. However, if they can cleanup their turnover issues and Demin can be more physical and secure with the ball, this team has all the tools to go to the Sweet Sixteen.
Oh also the free throws were problematic. Baker and Hall both missed a pair of free throws each. The fact that they were able to get the 5-pt W despite all of this is extremely exciting! Keita and Mag really stepped up. I think this game should be a clear indicator as to what the rotations should be moving forward.
@@PerryMitchell-r3l Am I? I said IF they do those things, they have the tools to go S16. Those are big IFs that are not given. I could see some improvement happen on the turnover front, but Demin and Katchings are both streaky and I don't see Demin's handles improving dramatically over the remainder of the season. Also, I intentionally said they would have the TOOLS to do it, not that they actually would. Basketball can be a very streaky sport in general. A team can be very good but shoot cold one night and get beat by an otherwise lesser team - and that's all it takes to get knocked out in the tourney. I personally think they'll make the tourney as 8-10 seed and maybe win won game before getting knocked out. Pretty similar to last season. But I hope they do better - it wouldn't shock me given the talent on the team. It also wouldn't shock me if they don't make the tourney either. There's a lot of basketball to be played still and the Big 12 is a dog fight.
@@PerryMitchell-r3l Couldn't agree more on the turnovers. They looked like they forgot how to dribble and pass the second UCF started to double-team, which we've seen from Demin before but it was super disappointing to see Hall struggle so much with it. As for taking bad shots, yeah 3-4 drives to the hoop really ended poorly, but basketball is often about probing the defense to see what they'll give. More importantly, you're going to harp on them not passing the ball and taking bad shots? They literally shot 48.3% from the floor and had 22 assists. They avg 48.5% on the season (28th best in D1 and 3rd best in B12) and 17 assists (23rd best in D1 and 5th best in B12). 22 assists is an insane number. This team doesn't have a sharing the ball problem, and they're also one of the most efficient teams out there considering how many threes they take. Turnovers, defense, and free throws are where this team needs to improve. Demin seems to really lack either the skill to dribble through contact, or the confidence in his skill to do so. When he gets shaken and starts making bad decisions, it appears to rub off on the team as they go into chaotic scramble mode. That being said, I was impressed with how the team responded in the second half. KY seems to be getting better at adjusting at half. Mag and Saunders stepped up huge and were a calming force on the team.

Those rejections at the end of the game were awesome!!!

I sure value your info. Keep it coming!!
Looking good Cougs!!!

How does UCF be a last 4 in and BYU be a 1st 4 out in the field of 68. Do they even look at the NET ranking?

Change your headline bro. That was a close one

Just think what this team could do if they could reduce their turnovers
Dominate? Nah.. Good win cougs!

You are wildly optimistic 😂

Jake, please ask KY where Dunson is
Beat U of A and I'm a believer . . .
Weird that you’d be on a BYU fan channel and not be a believer until they beat one of the top teams in the conference.
So many ugly turnovers and taking shots when they should have passed that lead to blocks.

BYU road uniforms should be more blue than black.
