I have been listening to this stellar man since sneaker pimps. Listening to all his albums watching all his videos and I’ve had the greatest pleasure of seeing him live several times and it was MAGICAL. But there were so few people there, and I’m appalled to see such a low amount of subscribers! He is a brilliant musician and producer-a jack of all trades when it comes to his art and his aesthetic is flawless in videos and on stage. He’s been working SO hard for SO long I feel like he deserves so much more recognition when the ones at the top of the music charts don’t even come close to the magnitude of talent this man has.
I do often think about what would be if he would really be on the top of Charts. He would be famous suddenly. It is actually that what he never wanted to be. On the other hand some more appreciation by the public he does really deserve. It is really difficult...

You phrased that perfectly for me
The imagery here tells a story of the patterns of abuse, and the victim surrenders to it. At first, he is just singing, and the others are rolling around, unaware of him, until he catches their attention. They slap and hit him. At about 1:30 his mouth is literally covered when he is yelling out after being hit and slapped. At 1:45 they are literally remaking his face while appearing to sooth him, and at 2:45 provide "comfort" and then laugh and then beat him down. At 3:04 they bust his guitar and literally dehumanize him with the animal mask. Finally, at 3:35 he gives up and surrenders to it, finding a strange ecstasy. I've certainly never interpreted the song in that way, and it is now very sad and intense for me, having always understood it along the lines of "accepting things you cannot change". Chris Corner is really something.
Man/Woman, props to you for getting all that. Most people will only see asses and sex, when of course, things are way more deep than that when it comes to IAMX.

It may not be exactly abuse though..To me the girls are his demons, sex, alcohol and there is a clear reference to bdsm, which is not abuse in my eyes.. It's like he finds the strength to embrace his tebdency to sexual submission, but also his borderline addictions etc and coming to terms with that aspect of himself. Or maybe it's just me loving bdsm references in art 😜
@@lotusflowers5644 Nope, that's another interesting view on the whole concept. I do not know what he's actually making reference to, though, and I guess I should personally ask Chris himself to know for a fact. But I do know it's not a hollow video about asses and sexualized content; they're not twerking, IAMX is not a stip club. It is something more.
@@jasonex4027 Yeah, it's just an interpretation, and I didn't mean to make it sound like the only one. Chris has expressed reluctance to talk about the origins or meanings of songs to him, in order that we have a lot of space and freedom to experience and understand his art.
Somehow it reminds me "Missile“ and now I miss these times when I was at the begining of discovering exciting IAMX world.

This dark and beautiful song has been haunting me for weeks now... I can't stop listening.
The music video leaves thinking that the person hold himself up as much and as long as he was capable of, but in the end he gave up and dived in, becoming what people claimed him to be and wanting him to do. There is no "good" and "bad" sides, rather than a FORCE and an OUTCOME.

I just paused on 1:42 and stared at this beautiful shot for literally 10 minutes
oh my god this is beautiful..... the song and the video..... surrender has always been one of my favorite IAMX songs due to the soul wrenching lyrics and vocals that accompany it. the video, from what I'm getting is Chris struggling, his demons are abusing him and he's struggling trying not to give in. But its getting harder, they're getting louder and more persistent ,and he feels like he's going to die if he doesn't surrender to them and it would be so EASY just to give in. and so towards the end he does, he surrenders to them and he just goes into complete self-destruct mode and gives into utter decadence and makes a huge ugly mess of himself, and for a moment he enjoys it but eventually the high of it all ends and the pain kicks in and he beats the ground out of frustration and self-hatred for the disgusting place he has found himself in. The ending is suppose to make you feel uncomfortable, its a man giving into his demons and destroying himself in a degrading way.
The idea reminded me of an original "I am terrified" video but 10 years later it developed into an alternative message
it also reminds me of the 'missile' one. back to the roots, I guess. probably, Chris had always wanted to create a video like that. it grasps the iamx-essence, so vulnerable, touching, private. bless this person, I adore his sincerity and courage to share.
the whole essence of artists, musicians and poets is in this video. to cry or to laught I don't really know

Unfortunately I relapsed but I’m trying and finding you while I was over a year clean, I can listen to you and it’s giving me some hope.

I think I finally have the right words to express how I feel about this. I love the beauty of the lighting and shadows, of the lace and both female and male form. Yes, there's a great deal of sexualization (red Speedos. 'nuf said.😏), but it's similar to the Missile vid, where I'm not sure whether Chris is enjoying himself as a masochist, or is in genuine turmoil. Perhaps both, which is a conflicting feeling for me as an onlooker. I feel anger at the forces tormenting and abusing him, but knowing those forces are friends, I also have to laugh a little. Then at the end, I empathize as he gives in to the supreme decadence and gains some power and control, but still pounds the mattress in (I assume) frustration before collapsing, energy spent. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, but very beautiful and very human. 💞🌟💓

На мой взгляд очень сильный клип. Эти девушки с самого начала показались мне его страстями, которые мучали его, и в конце концов он буквально прыгнул в них, поддался им. С другой стороны там явно показано, что именно проход через эти мучения сделали из него Х. Посмотрела уже несколько раз. Очень я его понимаю. Прямо до внутренностей доходит. И как страсти мешают делать музыку, и как заставляют надевать маску, и в итоге к чему приводят. Поддался, сломался, насладился, но опустошенный и весь в говне.

The new record of acoustic versions is excellent. Such a great songwriter who is able to compose truly memorable melodies, with a voice of powerful presence, clarity and expressiveness. Lyrics that are evocative, reflective, philosophical and that, when combined with the music and voice, will definitely yank an emotional response out of you and maybe even make you think.
