Great to see Richard and Carol together, and Tom is an absolute professional. Perfect timing for this to be post breakfast, kind of like the crossswords from the morning papers.
I fondly remember watching this on school holidays. It used to be on just after GMTV. Mary Tamm of "Doctor Who" fame was a regular guest. I seem to remember Jenny Aguetter and George Layton being regulars too!
I just can't understand why we now wake up to Jeremy Kyle instead of a lovely little game like this. Ooh goody, incoherent arguing and aggression, I'll put the kettle on.
Quite handy Richard and Carol were there - by this time Yorkshire Television owned Tyne Tees - again. Poor Tyne Tees - the hard done by station of the ITV network.
This looks like it's based on the version that originally aired in America. The original version in syndication ran from December 1975 to September 1980 with host Jack Clark. It got revived in September 1986, but it only ran until the following September. The revival was hosted by David Sparks.
Here in the UK Crosswits began in 1985 & was originally hosted by Barry Cryer, the show was seen once a week but in 1987 when Tom O Connor became the host it was twice weekly but then from series 4 (1988) until it ended in 1997 it was 5 times a week.
The timer board between commercials used the old Tyne Tees logo, was this a dig at their big brothers Yorkshire for destylising their logo into 4 boring letters?

RIP Tom, thanks for the memories. Loved this back in the day
Always remembered this being on when I used to bunk off school after TV AM. RIP Tom
Same!!! It's a bunking off sort of show.
An era when the shows on in the morning on ITV were actually given as much care and attention for the quality threshold as the rest of the day!
RIP Tom O'Connor. What a wonderful charismatic host he was. Give me him over Anne Robinson any day.
No over inflated ego, no nastiness. We didn't know what we had until its now gone
Quite right.
I remember watching episodes of this so well when I was in my nan's lounge in the 1990's.
RIP both Richard Whiteley & Tom O'Connor.

Shame really.
you can grovel all you like but them TV producers will never listen -
Hilarious comment but sadly true. Many people these days seem to find entertainment at the expense of other people's misfortune.
People and society in general are much more stupid. The likes of Jeremy Kyle are lowest common denominator entertainment.
This is a lovely little gameshow.
Rest in Peace to Tom O’Connor. Who sadly died today (18th July)
Also RIP Richard Whiteley.
I used to watch Crosswits when i was off school or during the summer holidays in the 90's. RIP Tom O'Connor.
RIP Tom such a lovely man
In memory of richard whiteley (1943-2005)
Used to love Crosswits RIP Tom
Rip love from Ireland 🇮🇪
When Richard Whiteley and Carol Vorderman have been on Crosswits, hopefully they'll go back on Countdown.
What a Classic edition of Crosswits from 30 years ago today!
The 1994 series of Crosswits featured new opening titles and new theme music.
RIP Tom O'Connor 💔
RIP Tom O'Connor
Oh, thats where Morticia went after leaving The Addams Family… She doesn’t look any older..😂😂
Love cross wits loved Tom and Richard
Bring back crosswits and grandstand
The battle of countdown.
Quite handy Richard and Carol were there - by this time Yorkshire Television owned Tyne Tees - again.
Poor Tyne Tees - the hard done by station of the ITV network.
Too small, really. The Tyne tees region had one of the lowest, if not the lowest population of any of the regions.
I can't ever remember the opening credits of this being so raveified
Does look like someone in the graphics department might also have worked on 90's dance music videos as well!

Tom was a much better host
It would be good if Challenge Tv put this on instead of endless repeats of The Chase.
The Chase is s**t
R.I.P
Great show class act Richard whitely
"Did you see yesterday's show?" It was probably only filmed 20 minutes earlier!
Normally these short half hour quiz shows taped around 4 to 6 editions per day back then
RIP Tom.
RIP Tom
A countdown double! Get in!
Tom o'connor such a lovely man.
Absolute bants.
The Chesty Reaper
Tom o'connor RIP 😢
Young carol vorderman 😊
can not understand most of what they are saying, it is a different English than the one we use here
It’s plain English.
The timer board between commercials used the old Tyne Tees logo, was this a dig at their big brothers Yorkshire for destylising their logo into 4 boring letters?
Richard sounds like Phil Liggett the racing cycle announcer.
Countdown on crosswise
This is crosswits, not crosswise.
Do you have any Crosswits episodes where Colin Baker was one of the guests?
Still better than countdown
This show was like Countdown, wasn't it?
Tom sounds just like John Stapleton.
In the same way that Frank Sinatra sounded like Quentin Crisp.
@@SuperFerdie1965 and Donald Trump sounds like one of the clangers.
Great game
Youre in oil?
5:53 Who was the person that sang "September Song"?
Frank Sinatra
Saw it first time around found it boring now it's quite entertaining am getting old

Decent quiz. The dross they're churning out these days just awful, Pointless, and that one with Grant Mitchell, Tenable, terrible...
Richard Whitley was dodgy as. Witnessed his antics in the past and was not impressed
Well dont tell half a story
