I think people have always been this effed up, but social media and the internet exposes it quicker than in the past.
Maybe, Idk if this offers any reassurance but I might just be that people are worse at relationships (all types) as time goes on. We live in a world that nurtures bad and antisocial behaviors, I think nurture plays a bigger part than nature when it comes to social behavior.
Myspace was like the 1st Facebook kinda. Arranged marriages are very much a thing in some cultures, Muslim, as in this case, it happens in India (though there's a large Muslim population there obvs, so idk if it's culture in general or religion in India's case). Common in the middle east, and even in Asian cultures .

I remember watching this one of Stephanie's videos and I just thought I'd add something more---while I always appreciate her sympathy towards victims I feel like near the end of this video the little bit about what his family said his character was like doesn't really matter and it should be emphasized that he was indeed a toxic lowkey abusive blackmailing stalker---of course the toxicity went both ways and Ansreen is responsible for the affair just as much, but he did take it too far. And don't get me wrong, I don't think what Mei and Ansreen did was just at all and the two men didn't deserve to die, especially not the innocent friend, but I just don't believe Sakib should be painted completely innocent either.
i think it has to do with people constantly nagging on her to share “both sides” of the story since oftentimes with true crime content people only focus on the person committing the crimes and “ignore/forget” about the victim. i feel like she tries to do her due diligence to at least cover the victim’s loved ones own testimonials and thoughts and do it in the nicest way possible so people don’t accuse her of being one sided. that’s also why 3+ years of her content is gone - people kept saying her content was disrespectful and didn’t focus on the victims enough so she removed them and started talking about the victim’s lives more.

I love Stephanie’s content and appreciate her focus on the victims-that’s why I only watch a select few true crime channels because hers doesn’t feel like she’s trying to make a spectacle out of these real life cases and actually respects the people involved. However just speaking for this video in particular, the last bit about how Sakib’s family says he was a good person along with how little the toxicity of his character and the blackmailing was brushed upon, only as a motive but not it’s own strange and nasty thing, just felt like he was getting off too easy. He’s still a victim and didn’t deserve to die at all, but he’s guilty of his own crimes. In any case, the perpetrators deserve their prison time and I feel deep sympathy for his friend’s family. He was the one truly innocent person in all of this

The only real victim is Hasyim, like this guy just want to do good deed (driving his friend out of town). The other guy didn't deserve to die but he's clearly abusive and manipulative. He lied about his age to date older women, and keep pestering her when the relationship has no future. Like she is as toxic as him, but for saying he is all that just makes the family sounds like airplane parent (what stephanie said, how the parents dote their children too kuch, that the children would do no wrong).
