    im 51 and that is one of the top 5 offenses ive ever seen in college football. they beat you with the run or pass. Break long runs or passes. slower methodical drives. blowouts . comebacks. came out on top of back and forth tight battles. this offense did EVERY SINGLE THING and offense could do.

    • @patrickthomas8890
      @patrickthomas8890 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was a travesty and showed why champions shouldn’t win by a vote. Voters loved the idea of Nebraska getting revenge over Miami in the Orange Bowl and handed them the title on a silver platter. That Miami team was wildly OVERRATED. Aside from Sapp and Lewis on defense, they were garbage. Penn State should’ve never pulled the starters against Illinois and should’ve just kept their foot on the gas. Regardless, still can’t believe PSU dropped to #2 (and stayed at #2) despite winning on the road that week.

    • @dadestarmysteries255
      @dadestarmysteries255 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@patrickthomas8890 I don't think I'd go so far as to call Miami garbage, but they might have been a bit overrated. The system was stupid in having the bowl ties instead of playing the best teams against each other, but then they made it even more ridiculous by leaving it up to a vote. There should have been an automatic way for them to split the NC given the situation.

    • @patrickthomas8890
      @patrickthomas8890 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dadestarmysteries255 Perhaps garbage was a bit too harsh. However, that Miami team was very overrated. The program was coming off an all-time historic run but were not nearly as good in 1994...the hype was still through the roof. That particular squad didn’t have much in terms of offense

    With all due respect to the 2016 offense, which played at a dizzying pace at times; that unit doesn't come close to this unit in '94. In addition to the names in the video, you had that O Line, Mike Archie, Brian Milne, an underclassmen in Joe Jurevicious.

    • @arc-lite
      @arc-lite  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yup. Never needed to use Jurevicius, never took a snap in shotgun, never ran any kind of option (read option) play, and never really had to spread the field. It was pure execution of basic football with basic plays at it's finest.

Collins may not have had the career a No. 5 pick in the draft is expected to by fans, but he still beat the system playing as long as he did. Engram played 14 seasons. Brady played 11-12 seasons. Ki-Jana would have been an All Pro, but that injury in that era was a career ender. Also of note...If you look at the point during each games at which the games were still a contest you will see the defense played quite well, cause turnovers, hit hard, made stops. Once the games became Blowouts, some by the 1st qtr, some by halftime joe substituted liberally, kept everything in front, gave up yards skewing the stat's and points allowed giving the notion that the defense was not good or as good as Nebraska.
    No matter how much i enojoy these highlights there is an emptyness. It is like I lost a best friend or did something wonderful and great yet got in trouble...it is just a bad taste. I had the bad taste the minute the Pac-10 had no worthy contender in the Rose Bowl with no disrespect to Oregon as they were game and played hard, but i could see it was going to be another shaft job as witnessed in the past.

      You're right, by the way. Miami was ranked #3, thus inflating Nebraska's chances, but if you watch Miami closely that year, that team consisted of Warren Sapp (who should have won the Heisman) carrying a glorified cheerleader (Ray Lewis) and a terrible offense. Credit to Sapp for being such a beast, but Nebraska's record really just isn't as impressive as Penn State when you crunch the numbers.
      Like, NU's other big win was 24-7 at home over Colorado. That's the same Colorado team that needed a freak miracle to beat the Michigan squad that Penn State's offense dropped some amazing advanced stats on (I think we got like 4.5 median average yards per play, which is just absurd).

    Penn State got screwed in so many ways that season; the hail mary, getting dropped after a blowout win over a top 25 team, in the last week both teams had an equal number of games where they struggled against a mediocre team and they each played a mediocre team at the end, but Nebraska's opponent had a much more prestigious name so they got a pass despite winning a lot less impressively than Penn State, and Penn State drawing Oregon instead of playing a more prestigious name equal to Miami gave them no chance at all.
    I think Nebraska would have won because while they were seemingly equal: Nebraska-good offense, great defense, Penn State-great offense, decent defense, I think Nebraska wins because the great defense always wins over great offense. I've seen it far too many times with my own team in recent years. But Penn State's defense looks like they might have been better than they appeared at later times in the season. Bottom line though is we'll never know, and since they went undefeated they both deserve to call themselves national champions. Ridiculous that Nebraska won in both polls and that it came down to voting by people with their own bias.

    • @SmedleyWarIsaRacket
      @SmedleyWarIsaRacket 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check the PSU defensive play while games were still in doubt -though that was not long-
      It was not until the games were out of reach that joe substituted, played soft, kept everything in front allowing the points and yards to add up giving the impression that the D was not good....and while it was not one of the Great Lion D it made plenty of big plays, big hits, timely stops...
      The defense played much better than given credit while the games were still in doubt.
