    I'm 65 years old, I've always been in love with the sax. My barber is a life long sax player. About 6 months ago he purchased a YDS 150. Well I just had to have one, got it yesterday. He wants to teach me, I.ve never played an instrument before, you make it look too easy. Can an old man like me , really be able to really learn to play this instrument...lol

      I learned the sax by learning the notes on the staff, then i got a fingering chart and learned the fingers with some songs. Don't just finger with the chart, get a song and try to learn it. The way you put your mouth on the instrument is kind of difficult to explain, but there are some good videos on TH-cam about it.

    I was just about to buy the Roland Aerophone ae-10 online today when I saw this pop up through my google feed. I have searched endlessly to see a demo of it and your video so far is the only only I've found. To start with, this looks fantastic. It actually looks like an accoustic instrument of its own and it seems Yamaha concentrated on thee sax sound. I can see 56 of its internal 70 sounds are actually Saxophones. For me, this is the instrument to buy. It makes the Aerophone look like a complete toy.

      FYI-Based on my early research the main difference between Roland AE-10G and Yamaha YDS-150 instruments is that AE-10 is a synthesizer while YDS-150 is a sampler.

    @gary butler same here. Already over 35 on pre order. AE-10G haven’t tried it yet but I did purchase one. We’ll see but I tend to agree, the YDS-150 will probably be better overall to being closest to acoustic sax...

  • @manolaya69
    @manolaya69 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Thanks for the demo! Is it possible to use the YDS-150 with virtual instruments like Wivi-Band or the Swam Saxophones? What I really don't understand: Why doesn't yamaha implement their well known breath control technology with breath and lip pressure (bite control) sensor like they used in the WX series? The YDS would be a really interesting competitor to the Roland AE-10 and combined with the bell accoustic system that would be a really groundbreaking practising sax. But for me without bite control it lacks an essential feature for a digital sax.

    • @nuttysquirrel8574
      @nuttysquirrel8574 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's no competitor to the AE10 at all. As I understand it 'all' this has is the 4 saxes albeit in various guises? The AE10 has 124 others - it really is no contest!

      @manolaya69 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats true. An a lot of loud backing tracks and movement of the player.
      I very much enjoy and appreciate your youtube channel and your demonstrations on the yamaha wx5 and Aerophone. For me it would be very interesting to hear you playing the YDS-150 in a quality recording like your recording of Libertango for example. One with the internal sounds of the YDS and one with vl-70m or swam instruments. Regarding your superb way of playing this would provide a real good insight in the sound quality and expressive capability of the YDS.
      So if you get hold of an YDS and record some demos I would be very grateful. Best wishes from Germany.

      It's similar keys/control as a normal sax. The design team has done a really well job with the response and springs on the keys, to make it as close to a normal sax as possible. Much more easy to play than the touch solution at the EWI.

This is a nice demo but it's not a patch on a Roland Aerophone AE10 which has so much more to offer especially regarding the 128 tones. This is simply a glorified, digital, sax: you'd be better off playing the real thing. Try this link for some excellent AE10 demos. th-cam.com/video/g65fh23TCto/w-d-xo.html
