It's amazing anyone is left alive on this planet tbh
Ikr?
Also amazing that we didn't go extinct a long time ago ...
Volcanoes are fascinating and mesmerizing.
I know right?
I was displaced by the 2018 eruption, it almost covered our community but took a right turn and we lost Green Lake.
I live in the North Island of New Zealand. That's more than half of our country's population on that island. We have a few active volcanoes, too. We also have a large caldera called Lake Taupo. It sits in the middle of the island. From satellite views, you can see that the entire North Island is one massive super volcano.
I was raised in Auckland, which is literally an active volcanic field... White Island (Whakaari) to Ruapehu is perfectly aligned with the active subduction zone. Rotorua is perfectly placed in a very weak spot in the crust. This line goes all the way through Wellington City. I now live close to the Southern Alps. There is no longer any activity here as the plates rub against each other rather than go under. Akaroa and Dunedin were Volcanic and make sense if the plate went under.
And yet every report seems to indicate that for most catastrophic scenarios, including super volcanoes going off in other parts of the world (notably the USA and Italy), New Zealand is the place to be for holding your end-of-the-world party. All the richie-riches and broligarchs of the world have fall-out shelters on the South Island but now that you've reminded me there's a ticking time bomb on their doorstep too, pretty sure I'll sleep more soundly.

Kilauea is beautiful. Almost mesmerizing ❤ So are the Hawaiian 🌺 people.
I think Kilauea is beautiful to but I last saw it around the year 2000
Excellent informative program. Thank you. I learned a lot and will read up on earthquakes, volcanoes, and hurricanes.
"every minute a volcano is erupting" yep, one volcano has been erupting continuously for over 20 years.
It’s similar to our area at Taal volcano in the Philippines and Mayon Volcano it should at least 30 to 40 km away maybe from the creater for the safety of the people. Depending how the flow of lava?
My wife is from the Philippines and her house is within a 2-3 hour radius of taal, pinatubo and arayat

I think volcanos have contributed to mass extinction total, How many extinctions? I don’t know but some acent structures dotted around the world show a pre human or human existence
I heard we are the 6th race so?
Makes me feel quite lucky, surprisingly, to live in california, we're wildfires are the number one type of disaster that happened. People not from here think that earthquakes are the number one here, but not at all. The last major earthquake I've ever felt was 1989. Wildfires or fires in general are the only containable type of disaster / natural disaster that I can think of. All others, everyone has to just wait till it's done to start the cleanup and damage control. Never realized how lucky I was living in a fire prone area instead of anywhere else that we could live where yearly or decade level disasters are common
Awesome video keep it up 😁👍
Wasn't it predicted that IF Mt Vesuvius AND Mt Merapi erupt at the same time that that is the beginning of 'the end' for mankind...?
Uh... Campi Fligrie (sorry for my spelling). People living ON the volcano.
Campi Flegrei. Yeah, I have trouble remembering that spelling too, and have to look it up.
It is also a super volcano like Yellowstone.
This needed to be broken into 2 parts, 0ne for the Volcano and the other for cyclones
Sort of like a volcano doco that morphs into a hurricane doco half way through.
Taking the pressure off
Yellowztone krakatoa was as well dojng this

It took me a minute to realize the Aussie dude wasn't talking about Atlantic "bison", but rather the Atlantic "basin". Love the accent but my brain was being slow this morning. 😂 1:17:58

Wow wow glad Idont live near oneLove light

I am pretty sure that life is safer there than where you live.
don't forget Vasuvious
It’s called Vesuvius which explosion you taking about the one in 79AD? or the one in 1944?
Awesome doc
Hurricane Katrina was terrible, but what happened at the Superdome was worse. Hurricanes bring out the best AND worst in people!
Campi Flegri has greater potential to wreak havoc. Bit sensationalistic this one. Slick presentation though.
Misleading videotitle. The content is not only about Merapi but a group of volcanos around the world
40:30 kinda looks like a shadowy human controlling the pyroclastic flow lol
Is it really possible to say "change the course of human history"? First of all, our universe is full of contingencies, so there is no "course" to anything, especially to events that have already passed.
Thank you
Yea Japan is one of the last countries you want to experience an emergency or need aid after a traumatic event in. Just ask all those passengers who survived an airplane crash and were minutes from being rescued by American Marines, but because the crash was in Japan they felt they were perfectly capable of carrying out the rescue, so they refused to let the Marines land and render aid, the Japanese crews didn't show up until 18 hours later cuz they wrote everyone off as dead only they found 3 people still alive with horrible tales of listening to survivors die in the night waiting for rescue. Moral of the story...DO NOT NEED HELP IN JAPAN!
Kilauea is the most active,
According to the USGS the most active are Kilauea, Etna and marapi

If you build towns and Cities around active volcanos, then what do you expect will happen if it erupts ? Most volcanos give warning signs before it completely erupts, yet people still remain and die or get hurt. I scratch my head at people's stupidity.
I don’t understand people rebuilding in the same area after these disasters wipe out everything. It is pretty stupid.
Most often the sirens go off and people are told to evacuate, they do and nothing happens EXCEPT someone took advantage of their absence and robbed them blind. Villagers have come to believe that most often the sirens amount to nothing, and would rather stay and defend their crop and possession than come home to nothing.
Either way they die... someone steals everything you have and you starve to death slowly...
Or you stay and get killed quickly by the destructive flow coming down the hill
If it's a false alarm and being at home protects your property and secures your family lives another year, than it's a good day.
We westerners need to stop judging the third world by our first world standards.
If this was a first world nation we would have insurance on our property, we would have friends and family to take us in or in the very least a social safety net for unseen expenses or relocating costs. We are viewing their reactions through the peephole of our first world experience and standards.
People do the same with floods every decade or so their houses get flooded they dry out and stay till the next flood but no company will insure them ..
The soil around volcanoes is extremely fertile. Agriculturalists will flock there. The property values are high due to the beautiful views. People may be foolish to live there and return, but you have to have a place to live.
Look at the Mississippi or Nile deltas. Yearly floods, disease, and uncomfortable climate yet people still live there. Humans accommodate themselves to their surroundings.
If only all of the potential energy of earths volcanoes could be tapped to release the "dangerously built up pressure" that, if tapped properly, could be saferly releasing the dangerous pressures through an impeller, to turn generators for electricity, for free!
Sea water can not only cause explosive energy releases when brought into contact with magma, but also, with electricity, from the steam driven generator, can we get hydrogen, from the electrolysis of seawater? Then free electricity, and free hydrogen? Maybe?
Where will magma go for years

I thought Kīlauea was the most active volcano in the world ?
There are different ways that a volcano can be the most active, most active it’s the most dangerous, most active with earth quakes, most active with gas, most active with lava ect
@@Suho0_0Kilauea can’t get earthquake’s it’s a hotspot
@@Nathan21679 you obviously didn’t understand a thing I typed. it’s a list of examples that makes a volcano fall under certain categories for ‘most active’. Not specific to Kilauea, an example list. e.x.a.m.p.l.e list

I watch this over and over 😊 Please turn the background music down,it’s so loud it’s drowning out the narrator.
Thoes that can move do so europe now
Mr. Narrator. You got that wrong. Hawaiian lavas are LESS viscous than the Ring of Fire lavas. If Hawaiian lavas are much more viscous, then they would be stratovolcanoes with much more explosive eruptions.
No such thing, Ever as a Dead or Extinct Volcano. Never!
I often wonder that as well but not sure about diamond head on Oahu if is really truly extinct
To say nothing of HAARP playing god.
What do u expect, these people when evacuated they lose everything, so why leave.

the extinct ones are like a dead horse of no interest to me i used to think hawaii was a playground for the rich i found out they have there slums as
well as any other place
Very active volcanos are rarely the most dangerous ones, the real dangerous ones are those who erupt thousand of years apart, imagine the pressure built up under all that time.

Mt. Merapi is not the most active volcano in the world. Most lists say it is fourth after Kilauea, Mt. Etna, and Mt. Stromboli.
There are different catagories that makes a volcano the most active. It isn’t just which volcano erupts the most, there can be the most actively dangerous e.g where the specific volcano always erupts the most frequently with the most dangerous types of lava/power. Or most active with earthquakes, smoke, lava itself, expansion of self, ect ect. The most active is very broad.
@@Suho0_0 I used the list from the USGS, compiled by experts. Show me a list compiled by volcanologists that puts Merapi as #1.
