I like the gray scale effect on life total when a player dies. As an added touch, I would also recommend graying out the commander banner to keep the attention off that sector of the screen. Also, sick RWBY mat.
I'll see how doable that is. Right now it's a simple matter of changing the text field to a gray, but doing it to the images would require me to make several overlays.
Lesson of the day: don't let spite and vengeance cloud your ability to assess threats. Because Chad was so focused on avenging his mana dorks, he didn't notice the threat that was a Vaevictis with Lightning Greaves on the board until it was too late.
You don't wipe a Ghalta player's dorks and just expect not to get eaten alive. That Chain Reaction was a turn premature I think. If Muddstah had waited another circuit he would've still been alive and there may have been 12 things on the board
It was premature, especially considering Andrew was left defenseless and had nothing in hand to stop two consecutive attacks from Ghalta. I don't think there would've been 12 creatures on the board, but at least Vaevictis would've hit the field and killed Ghalta, and then Chain Reaction could destroy everything.
Old, old thread, but I'm gonna reply anyway! It's not quite spite that led to what happened... although it it looks the same. Threat assessment is one thing, but Andrew kinda sealed his own fate. Aggro decks, especially ones that like to win with commander damage, are heavily incentivized to focus down one player at a time. Spreading out damage leaves you with three players who hate and feel threatened by you, rather than one dead player and two who don't care. When Andrew killed all the dorks, he ensured that the first Ghalta swing came at him, which basically ensured that every subsequent swing would as well until he died. Holding onto the Chain Reaction was the much better choice, as it'd keep the attention away from him, and if he waited a little longer he would've been able to use it to kill Ghalta... and maybe catch a hexproof Vaevictis Asmadi with it at the same time.
Last week I complained about how you got Avenger of Zendikar as your preview card. Turns out it was the crown jewel of the lands deck. So congrats for getting to show that off!
Man, Eric's list seems like the perfect one to run Primal Surge in. You won't hit it off of Vaevictus, but since literally every other card in the deck is a permanent, you basically just win if you cast it. Surge is one of my favorite cards and it seems like it would be sweet in that list.
The VA deck in question is already running all permanents so it's not like it's really "costing" him anything in this case. Also, ramp is the last of those things in question that basing a deck around you would cost; you still get access to Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, SadBot, and a plethora of Wild Growth effects and more. The card does cost a lot, but if the deck is designed correctly, it literally wins the game when it resolves. If you want to make that argument, you should also be telling me that no one should run Tooth & Nail because it costs nine mana to entwine, which is also an inherently silly thing to say. Besides, the card is fun and is a win condition that doesn't feel quite as bad to lose to.
Some of the discard choices seemed odd to me. Though I didn't know what was in hand or what their gameplans were. As an Esper player myself, I love to see other people play R/G decks. Was in the process of changing my fiancé's R/G Omnath deck to Vaevictis. Though now we're holding out for Lord Windgrace, as his deck is primarily a landslide deck.
My buddy has a planeswalker Atraxa deck very similar to this one, and I have never seen it lose. Also I'm thinking about going out and buying a Vaevictus now since it is Jund colors. I could put Lord Windgrace into the deck and use Vaevictus as my commander and it would work just well as this Vaevictus deck
Will you be doing a gameplay video and/or a deck tech of the new Commanders from C18? I'm very excited for Lord Windgrace as his "land matters" mechanic excite me the most. ^_^
Contrary to some comments, KEEP THIS LAUGH! In the end comes down to what you want since it is very split in the fanbase, but I personally think it gives the intro more personality. :)
Bruh, mudstah, mah boi, please. GO BACK to the goblin sound effect. Even though it's your voice thatblaugh is so hard 2 listen to plz. No hate. Just trust me the stock goblin laugh made more sense.
That "huh-huh-huh" you've got now is just wrong for a goblin. It's fine and well if that's how you laugh, but when you show a goblin, we expect a good cackle. Glad to see it's not just me saying this.
He used to have a good sound effect for it but people complained about it, so that why he has his laugh and the "Generic Goblin Noise" sounds. Its mostly a joke. If you roll back a few videos you will see the other sounds hes used.
Enjoyable game, I must ask though. Can you ask Chad where he got his playmat from? I can't find anything similar online after some basic RWBY Playmat searches so wondered if he got it custom made? It looks sweet and I would love to add one to my collection :)
I love your content! I was curious on when the decklists for the decks used in the tribal episode (Grimgrin, Sidar Kondo, Arjun, and Dagathar) will be released? I am very curious about the human deck.
At 6:15 Eric discards Blood Crypt and then plays it from his graveyard untapped with Crucible of Worlds. Because he played it untapped, he should have lost 2 life there.
FYI, Vaevictis' abilty resolves in whole before anything that triggers because of the sacifices happens. In this case, the forgotten ancient should have entered before the butcher of malakir trigger resolved. Maybe Josh still would have sacced his commender, but I still think you didn't resolve in order.
I don't believe this is correct, Vaevictus states for *each permanent sacrificed this way* you get to reveal the top card - which means Eric's sacrificing of the malakir happens before the forgotten ancient enters because each sacrifice of the Vae trigger happens simultaneously, which forces the malakir trigger..THEN flip your card. At least i think
We counted it up. Even if I had, it'd have still meant that Chad only had to play one land to get back to where he was due to the power he had on the field.
I was hoping to see a lot of vaevictus in my lgs after m19 dropped but I have yet to see anyone playing them, it's sad cuz they seem like they could be super hype
@MTGMuddstah I am exclusively an EDH player and i've just started watching your videos, most of which i listen to at work. They're very well done! I notice that you comment a lot about being locked out of games from manaflood/manascrew, and was wondering if your group has tried the Partial Paris mulligan rule variant? I play 2-4 games a day using this rule and this mulligan greatly eases mana problems in the early game and allows you to play less lands in your deck, which makes for a more fun late-game. I'm sure you know everything i'm telling you already, but all the same. Keep up the good work!
Sorry to be the smart ass today but on 7:12 you are mistaken. He has enough mana to cast Vaevictus but then it would get countered by Nether Void, which is totally different from having not enough mana to cast it, because it won't hit the stack. Sorry that this had to be my first yt comment :D But awesome content anyway!
At th-cam.com/video/o4vimZNjMWs/w-d-xo.html the Butcher's sacrifice trigger would resolve after Vaevictus' ability has resolved in its entirety, which means Josh could have sacrificed the Forgotten Ancient instead of his Atraxa
Hey Mudsta! Great game! I'm sorry for you not getting to play more but you messed with the primal hunger, my baby girl Ghlata! Now to my question: Why does Chad (presumably male) have purple nail polish?
"He paid 4 mana to cast sol ring, which is just...not good". That's kinda what an effect like sol ring should cost though lol. Just look at hedron archive or worn powerstone which is just a 3 mana sol ring that enters tapped.
I know that if you have the choice to take someone out of the game early that you should, but it rubs me the wrong way that someone gets taken out early and they have to watch for however long it is till the game is done.
"Chad is playing Galtha"
The Chad galtha player vs the virgin Atraxa superfriends
I like the gray scale effect on life total when a player dies. As an added touch, I would also recommend graying out the commander banner to keep the attention off that sector of the screen.

I'll see how doable that is. Right now it's a simple matter of changing the text field to a gray, but doing it to the images would require me to make several overlays.
I'm not familiar with video editing, but could you just replace the image with a grayscaled one at that point of the video?
MTG Muddstah do you know where chad got the RWBY Mat from?
Well he's called chad for a reason
Lesson of the day: don't let spite and vengeance cloud your ability to assess threats.
Because Chad was so focused on avenging his mana dorks, he didn't notice the threat that was a Vaevictis with Lightning Greaves on the board until it was too late.

@@HakureiIllusion it was still dumb mate

I mean, there werent many jewels, but oh well
Thomeyis I don't know I was most excited by the elf that makes plants
I'm from Brazil and admires your videos a lot! The best EDH channel on TH-cam!
André Luiz VAI BRASIL
Great game guys. That explosive start from Ghalta, was almost as awesome as how the game ends. Sorry Muddstah. 😋
Man, Eric's list seems like the perfect one to run Primal Surge in. You won't hit it off of Vaevictus, but since literally every other card in the deck is a permanent, you basically just win if you cast it. Surge is one of my favorite cards and it seems like it would be sweet in that list.
He explained why he didn't run it, but I'd been playing EDH for five hours by that point so most of the night is a blur.
MTG Muddstah because it is a trash card that costs you all good ramp, interaction, etc to get one absurdly high cmc sorcery.
The VA deck in question is already running all permanents so it's not like it's really "costing" him anything in this case. Now THAT'S how you Jund.
I love the name turning grey when people die!
Ooof Chad got that sweet RWBY playmat ❤️
Really great to see a stax style deck play and win!
Super cool ghalta deck! I think having a elf theme is a really good idea.
Some of the discard choices seemed odd to me. Though I didn't know what was in hand or what their gameplans were. As an Esper player myself, I love to see other people play R/G decks. That sounds awesome! You'll have to tweet me the list once it's done.
Unfortunately I don't use twitter, though I can drop a link to our plan right here. tappedout.net/mtg-decks/vaevictis-asmadi-the-dire-landslide/
Nice! Thanks.
-"please chad, don't kill me now, I'm making a vid for the channel"
- *KILLS HIM*
wow chad, you must be fun at parties.
That was one of the saddest, most confused Atraxa decks I have ever seen.
I took deploy the gatewatch out of my Ateaxa deck a while ago. Every time I see it played on the channel I'm more convinced it was the right decision
You, jolt and commader replay are the 3 TH-camrs are usually turn off my ad blocker for. Keep up the good content.
I agree with you about Commander Replay, but that Jolt guy is just too handsome for my liking.
Watching Vaevictus go to work was a thing of beauty
06:10 Does Chad have huge hands, the slipperiest sleeves ever made, or do I just stink at shuffling EDH decks? That was unusually smooth
Chad is one smooth operator.
He is a real chad
I love the RWBY playmat and how explosive Ghalta was from the get go.
Glad to see Vaevictus performing so well, I've been assembling a Jund deck and can't decide who I want to command it.
I strongly approve of Chad’s playmat.
I have informed Chad of this!
what is it?
Pietro Masneri Rooster Teeth’s RWBY
Where did you get it?
My buddy has a planeswalker Atraxa deck very similar to this one, and I have never seen it lose. Also I'm thinking about going out and buying a Vaevictus now since it is Jund colors. that RWBY playmat is sicc :P fun game tho. vaevictus is brutal
Sweet game! Vaevictis is some seriously good removal!
Chad, my man, loving the nail polish :) great color I must say
which basic mountains is eric using? they look so cool.
I guess its all his basics. Anyone know the printing or like a tcgplayer/cardkingdom link?
@@aerosquid4732 they are foils from either 7th edition or odyssey i know this is 3 years after your question but hope it helps
BRG Control? Brutal.
Jund Em Out

This is vaevictis
Wooooah, well played Eric!

Please tell me there’s going to be a theme video of Commander 2018.
Maybe, it'll depend on where I am when the set drops.
Didn’t know this channel uploaded 3 player games... neat!
I love how you made the goblin laugh way worse after so many people complained
I dig how full of love this comment section is for chads manicure. (I agree!)
That was an amazing lockdown of the other players
Contrary to some comments, KEEP THIS LAUGH! In the end comes down to what you want since it is very split in the fanbase, but I personally think it gives the intro more personality. :)
ghalta being a 2 turn kill is really scary xD. but the jund dragon looks insane

Don't listen to this non-believer. You should instead go back to, 'generic goblin noises'.
Please?
That "huh-huh-huh" you've got now is just wrong for a goblin. It's fine and well if that's how you laugh, but when you show a goblin, we expect a good cackle. Glad to see it's not just me saying this.

Bruh if he ever has guests on his show, like from other channels, they could provide a guest goblin laugh for the beginning of the video!
Enjoyable game, I must ask though. Can you ask Chad where he got his playmat from? I can't find anything similar online after some basic RWBY Playmat searches so wondered if he got it custom made? It looks sweet and I would love to add one to my collection :)
gwazisam custom made, from Inked gaming.
Another amazing video keep up the good work!
Also tell Chad that his nails are pretty!
Cant view the Ghalta deck list for some reason?
Chad's nails were looking gorgeous in this video
I like Chad's manicure. :)
Eric is THE Jank master. Helm loop on Acidic Slime? DAMMMMMN.
I love your content! I was curious on when the decklists for the decks used in the tribal episode (Grimgrin, Sidar Kondo, Arjun, and Dagathar) will be released? I am very curious about the human deck.
Probably never =( Sean had made them as introductory decks for EDH, but has since scrapped the whole plan.
Can we get deck lists for these decks?
All decklists are in the description section of the video if available.
At 6:15 Eric discards Blood Crypt and then plays it from his graveyard untapped with Crucible of Worlds. Because he played it untapped, he should have lost 2 life there.
You'll notice it is tapped once the video progresses a few seconds. I mentioned that to him and he decided not to take the two.
MTG Muddstah Oh, my bad! Totally though he used it cast Nether Void.

JT Thompson, The ability has no pause or break. There is no time for anything to resolve between the sacrifice and the permanents hitting the board.
But it is still a single abilty that has to be resolved in total before any triggers are put on the stack
You can ghost quarter basics, hitting the enchanted forest might have helped
We counted it up. Even if I had, it'd have still meant that Chad only had to play one land to get back to where he was due to the power he had on the field.

Probably, most of it on Eric's side.

Sad Regal Force, so sad.
You always mention turning off your ad blocker but I have never had an ad appear on your video and I don't even use ad blocker
Some browsers have them built in, and you don't get ads if you have TH-cam Red.
MTG Muddstah actually I'm using a mobile with no modifications whatsoever to prevent ads. I'm not sure why this is happening
Hm, interesting! Well, I'd say don't worry about it and just enjoy.
+1 for Chad's cute nails :)
just a friendly reminder, vaevictus says "choose" and "sacrifices", so it gets around hexproof/shroud and indestructible
It says "choose TARGET permanent", so no, it doesn't get around shroud, hexproof or protection. It does get around indestructible, though.
WHEN IN DOUBT, JUND 'EM OUT
Nice RWBY playmat Chad 👍
Sorry to be the smart ass today but on 7:12 you are mistaken. He has enough mana to cast Vaevictus but then it would get countered by Nether Void, which is totally different from having not enough mana to cast it, because it won't hit the stack.

Haha, no worries! I would argue though, that it is essentially the same thing, if not worse than not having cast the commander.
With a Reanimate or Animate Dead in hand that would make a huge difference ;)
The land destruction was real lol
I saw Nether Void come out and was like what black has counters. Immediately looked it up to add to my deck.... that card is $1000

Why does Chad (presumably male) have purple nail polish?
My best guess would be because he or someone else put it on his nails?
7:09
dat sass lol
omg ANOTHER Atraxa deck that has zero answers/removal/protection... Just people playing value creatures and getting wiped repeatedly.
BaolachUS it discarded a wipe guard in Heroic Intervention.
can we please go back to the creepy high-pitched goblin laugh?
A nether void jesus Eric XD
It was Italian, if that helps?
MTG Muddstah In one sense yes because that's like $400 cheaper but on the other hand I'm even more jealous because I love Italian cards
Why not summon your commander to chump ghalta with... you would have survived by 1 ghalta damage.
RIP my friend.
Why did Chad focus muddstah so hard?
Hidden theme of this game, you must play green !
Why are Chad's fingernails purple?
"He paid 4 mana to cast sol ring, which is just...not good". That's kinda what an effect like sol ring should cost though lol. Just look at hedron archive or worn powerstone which is just a 3 mana sol ring that enters tapped.
worldthroughabucket that’s literally Ur-Golem’s Eye
Right and Sisay's ring too now that I think about it.
Nether Void... what a card.
Game review time. Neither void is a fun card!
SUPERFRIEEENDZZZ YAAASSSS

I know that if you have the choice to take someone out of the game early that you should, but it rubs me the wrong way that someone gets taken out early and they have to watch for however long it is till the game is done.
yup im making a Vaevictus deck
sad to see you get smashed by giant dino
Of course the guy who's named chad is the one playing the big strong alpha dino
Wow, green in every deck.
