      @@skyjuiceification he is not, the humans make him seem evil, look at it another way, he is just trying to eat, you would get angry if you could not eat and you wouldn't care what you eat. He is not bad, it is just the perception that humans are better than everything else

    Stan Lee told me last year that Galactus had the rational of a drug addict because of how he didn't care who he hurt because all he wanted was his next meal.He read about a drug users in the news paper and wanted Galactus to have similar motives.

      A story I just picked up one week ago is The Silver Surfer Parable. Galactus returns to earth and presents himself to the humans of earth and just like that they assume him a god and panic. Previously Galactus already promised the Surfer that he would not harm earth after originally trying to consume them but he's also hoping by them panicking that they'll destroy themselves and he can consume them after they've done so. The art isn't great, the story is basic but the message is pretty powerful thanks to the Silver Surfer.

    A cool story about the creation of Galactus. Stan gave Jack a four word plot for this story: "Have them fight God." So Jack drew out the story and drew the nameless infinitely powerful cosmic character with a big "G" on his chest forcing Stan to come up with something to name him that started with G. And so he was called "Galactus"

    Galactus was the most powerful and greatest character in Marvel comics until writers turned him into a whipping boy! They actually had Thor beat Galactus?! How could there be any question to his might being a synthesis of man and( Eternity)The Sentience of the Universe? I could do this all day!

    I've always thought that Galactus would be such a compatible villain to Superman if Marvel and DC merged into one universe. He could've been the one who devoured Krypton, and would erase the perception of Supes as an overpowered hero w/o the convenience of Kryptonite. Requiring him to use his brain a lot more instead of just his physical abilities.

    Galactus has always been an extremely illogical character to me, it was created on a whim with loosely established roots and over time required countless retcons and plot devices to make it work.
    They ultimately circumvented everything by saying Galactus must exist because 'he's a constant', which of course is because the writers know that he doesn't make sense at all and has no way of making him work logically.
    Why must an embodiment of the universe eat extremely insignificant sources of energy such as planets, and aren't those planets part of the universe and thus part of himself? It's like a human having to eat his own red blood cells one by one. If he really needs so much energy, why not eat stars, or even entire galaxies?
    Also Uatu the Watcher is also a really inconsistent character, he doesn't want to disturb lives, but he shoots down the rocket containing Galactus anyway, how is that not intervening?

      It actually makes perfect sense to me. Galactus is like the God of destruction for the universe. He must destroy in order to live. He also cleans up dead and lifeless planets. He fits right in with the other cosmic entities like Death, Order, and Chaos. I'm just glad that he actually has a story, unlike the rest of them.
      That wasn't Uatu. Rob says in the video that it was someone else. The Watcher makes sense to me as well. It may be their role to simply watch but they are not robots. They have feelings and curiosities just like we do. They can also have favorites that they want to help protect when they have the power to do so.

    • @tyrima
      @tyrima 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Illogical? You must be completely unaware of the lvl of destruction that occurs in our universe in a day. There's a reason most of our universe is uninhabitable. "Pulls the ship down to observe it's inhabitants"!

    So from what I understand, power wise Galactus is among the three most powerful beings in all of Marvel aside from TOAA and the Living Tribunal (Depending on which Galactus). This only being applied to Earth 616 Galactus.
    From what I understand, it works like timelines splitting off. Galactus Earth 616 is the absolute most powerful of the Galacti, to where he can even surpass the LT (Unless TOAA is feeding him power I think). He's like the original, and since all timelines share the same beginning point, he's the one Galactus who always existed, watched all the other universes, and is the be all and end all of cosmic power aside from Eternity and Infinity and Death who are on part.
    From what I can read upon... Not only is Galactus 616 this powerful on less fed diet, but when fully fed and hunger sated, Franklin Richards in any version could never compared to him. Now this reason is seen in that when Reed summoned him in the series where he became Franklin's herald for a bit, he was pissed and said he managed to absorb 4 planets. But why? Not only was he prepping for the Celestials... But he was pissed, because his plan, which would have allowed him to mop the floor with the Celestials no matter what, was ruined because he couldn't absorb what he was planning thanks to Reed ruining it. Not only that, but Franklin couldn't beat them on his own, and even seemed to struggle, while Galactus managed to effortlessly destroy at least one with his bare hands, and unlike Franklin who was getting floored by three individual celestials, it took a combined one to beat Galactus. Sure, it took Franklin and Galactus to combine powers. But it was more so Galactus power pulling out than Franklin's. And this was an adult Franklin. So Franklin would never really compare to a fully powered Galactus who is pretty much the embodiment of absolute power in Marvel alongside the other absolutes.

    If galactus can create planets and doesn't want to destroy life on other planets can't he just eat the ones he creates? Or does it take too much power causing him to need to eat a planet to create one?

    • @geoffa87
      @geoffa87 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      From a basic physics standpoint, matter can neither be created or destroyed, it just simply changes states. For example, boil a pot of water and watch as it changes from liquid to gas. The same amount of water molecules still exist, just in a different state. So, to answer your question, Galactus eating the worlds he created would be a 0 sum game at best.

      Nah. That's like plugging a battery into itself. It isn't perpetual energy, just energy circulating in a singular source with a rapidly fading half-life, which would ultimately starve him without fresh energy. Diminishing returns and all that jazz.

Its more like just wtf is this fucking universe? how many universe destroying characters are there that are evil and how do you even make stories of those characters epescially if they are evil and have any stakes? This reminds of dragonballz..... there comes a point where you or your enemy is so powerful that literally nothing matters....

    So Galactus can create planets and life? So, why doesn't he just create them and eat them over and over again instead of just feeding on everything else... Yes, he would be using his own energy but re-consuming it but you would think that would balance itself out and stave of his actual hunger.

      Diminishing returns. It would take more energy to create then he would get back. He would end up worse then when he started.

      He could be as a farmer of the universe. I mean he can go several days without needing to consume a world. and he could easily restart that world before he left. It is not like he eats stars, which would provide much of energy needed to restart or establish new life on worlds.

      that's kind of amusingXD from what i understand marvel is the most grounded in relaity due to using real world locations yet are the most unrealistic due to having a multitude of supernatural beingsXD but yes it does get idn of rediculous as the whole point of gods and cosmic entities is to have supreme and ultimate adversaries no hero or villain can overcome or defeat for they are the supreme being(s) but due to the nature of comcis needing new material each issue and run tere are always ne threats and new events that not even the gods can handle, until greater gods come about, until those greater gods are faced with a threat they cnanot handle,until greater gods come ect. it is literlaly turtles all the way down XD
      but i kinda like that:D we need more supreme beings in fiction:D and given his track record and his work on the sandman i would love to see neil gaiman do stuff with marvel's pantheon:D

    Great video Rob! Can you do a Marvel explained video on the Celestials and the Mad Celestials?

  • @MrYTGuy1
    @MrYTGuy1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    So it just so happens that I recently did a big dive into galactus' origin story and here is some of the things that I've learned so far that have been updated or fleshed out. My goal here is that anyone reading this will get a deeper insight into the story as its meant to be understood for right now. I say 'now' because these things are always changing. And as you will see this story has changed to become what it has now.
    But in defense of the current version of events, there are some reasons you may prefer it as I do. In the subsequent decades since the character's creation they've had time to finalize, streamline and connect the previously established events to a degree and form a somewhat cohesive narrative. That narrative is not only simpler and easier to understand, but more consistent with itself at times while at the same time explaining certain plot pieces that were missing before other events that were explained.
    Like the video said, a lot of these ideas were changed over time. For example, 'the plague' may have originally meant to be a literal biological plague that was just killing everything, and not a form of radiation from universal collapse. It's generally accepted now that the radiation from the collapse caused what was called the "plague" and that the word plague just meant that something was killing everything. So this is the modern and most cohesive version of the story that's has been officially published by marvel that I can find.
    So like I said, from what i understand, it wasn't really a plague that was killing everything. It was that all matter in the universe was being pulled into one spot in preparation for a new big bang (look up oscillating universe theory). And that the radiation put out by this collapse was causing molecules and even atoms to break down, causing people to die in huge plague-like numbers.
    After delivering the news of impending doom and realizing there was no cure to be made. This is another hint that it may have originally been intended as a more normal biological plague, because even if a patient was cured of the radiation poisoning the collapsing universe is still kind of a problem. Meanwhile Galan had also theorized that probability wise there should be at least one person in the universe that could survive the "plague" of radiation given off by the collapse. But as time went on, no such person was found. As they watched other planets die off one by one and realized the end was near, they decided to meet their fate head on as proud taa. That's when they decided to fly the ship into the singularity. Making the fiery, universe ending, singularity their funeral pyre. Again apparently in some versions they fly into a star to escape the biological plague.
    Now here is where it makes more sense in a larger context that the event taking place was a universe ending event and that they were flying into the center of the singularity rather than escaping a plague by flying into a star. They meet the consciousness of the universe or something.
    Once they began their very final approach, galan found that everyone on the ship was dying due to intense radiation, except for him. He felt something new and powerful inside him. As he theorized there was at least one being that could withstand the plague of radiation, and it was him. But even so with the collapse and death of the universe itself, he wouldn't survive long anyway.
    The ship then plunged into the event horizon, at that very moment the (quoting marvel here) "sentience of the universe" (whatever that is), spoke to him and offered him a chance to become one with it. He accepted and was told that even though they would both die that they would have an heir. An heir like no other in existence. An heir in the next universe. An heir as mighty as a galaxy, but not just a galaxy. A ravager of galaxies. And after that, the universe collapsed completely creating a (quoting marvel again) "cosmic egg", and they both died as one. Basically the "cosmic egg" is what a universe is before a big bang.
    After countless amounts of time (or whatever passes when time itself doesn't exist yet), the "cosmic egg" underwent a big bang event, creating universe 616. The sentience having been reborn, then sent the newly reformed galan in the taa ship into the far depths of space warning the universe itself to beware its occupant.
    It's my understanding that from this point on this is galactus. But not a fully developed galactus. And just like it takes humans many years to mature to full strength so too did it take galactus many years to do the same. But with the amount of power he would have at full strength it would take a much longer time to manifest itself. As for how much time passes in between the events of early galactus' life, like the video says, it's not really specified but it's always on the order of several centuries being the smallest time frame and millennia and eons being the longer ones.

    • @MrYTGuy1
      @MrYTGuy1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +MrYTGuy1 Part 2:
      Just as the video says, a watcher finds galactus and learns what he is. Even though he at that time could have killed galactus, he decides to not interfere because of his code. (A code which he already violated by bringing the ship down in the first place, but I digress)
      Galactus sensing the danger, prepared the ship for take off. The watcher barely got off in time and the ship went into orbit, then departed the system. While in space he gave his taa friends a funeral and sent their remains into space.
      This is where my order of events varies slightly from the video. After he left the watcher's planet, galactus started to learn how powerful his cosmic energies are and attempts to learn how to control them. He then decided he needs a suit of armor to help him control his overwhelming power. And so, he labored away for a time constructing his now iconic suit. Afterwards, presumably with the aid of his new suit helping to control his power, he began changing his ship into a maturation chamber where he could rest and continue his development.
      This transformation is when the ship became a cube shape. In the video its stated that the ship didn't change into a cube and the suit wasn't made until it was already in orbit around archeopia. This doesn't make as much sense considering that galactus supposedly needed several more centuries of incubation to mature his cosmic energies. If the maturation cube was made in orbit around archeopia, then it would've had only a few years of incubation as opposed to it taking place en route to the planet which would give it the centuries required. Also it's stated by the exploratory vessel sent to explore the cube that the ship appears completely dormant. This would seem to indicate that galactus' ship did not change while in orbit. You may note in the video it shows a panel of when the ship is discovered in orbit by the archeopians, in the panel it already has a cube shape. Either way it doesn't change the story much, so lets move on to the awakening of galactus.
      After a time, war broke out (as it does). I'm not really sure if the archeopians were active participants in the war or not, but nonetheless war came to their system. Everything pretty much happens just like it stated in the video. The cube is mistaken for a weapon and its fired upon it. They don't just shoot it, every gun in the fleet was trained on the cube when they fire. This, of course, awakens galactus from his slumber and boy is he grumpy this time. And with good reason. The entire time he has been in his cube, his powers have been steadily growing. Taxing more and more of his body. Making his appetite grow just as much if not more than his power. Plus he hasn't eaten a single thing for eons, possibly since his rebirth and the birth of universe 616.
      He then proceeds to destroy the entire space fleet with a single gesture. While yelling about how hungry he is, he absorbs the energy of the entire space fleet. This obviously isn't enough because he screams about how he needs more energy, like a worlds worth. It's then that he destroyed archeopia to satiate his hunger. As he's doing it he says he doesn't know or care who lives down there, only that he must feed.
      On a side note, a couple ships managed to escape the doom the the planet. These ships would fly through space for centuries and become the founders of a group called the wanderers. From what I understand, over time the wanderers took in other species that had also had their planets destroyed by galactus and they formed a fleet of ships from various star systems and races all trying to find a way to avenge their fallen planets by defeating galactus.
      Now the video skips what happened right after the first planet feeding, so I can fill in the gaps there. After galactus was sated, he was curious about the planet he destroyed. So he decided to see for himself. When he got to the surface he was moved by what he saw. The destruction he saw reminded him of his own planet's destruction in the previous universe, except this time the destruction was caused by him.
      At this point he states that his powers can also be used to create, not just destroy. To prove it he decides to rebuild this one place. Not only rebuild it, but make it better than it was. Make it better than anything was. And so, he did just that (ikr). He used his cosmic power to reconstruct the planet. The project took him several thousand years and he was frequently forced to stop to go feed. I'm not sure if he fed on other inhabited planets or not during this time.
      When he was done with construction there stood a "world-ship" unlike any other. It was so much larger than a planet that other planets orbited it as if it were their sun. Galactus then named the creation "Taa II" in honor of his once mighty civilization. So the taa are really the only race that had any trace or knowledge of them survive past the end of their universe and in make it into the 616 universe.
      At one point he obviously started to not care about the destruction of other worlds like he did with archeopia. Not really sure on the reasons or speculations as for why because this is as far as my research in to his past has taken me atm.
      I hope that anyone who likes galactus has found some info here useful, and of course thx to the video maker. I enjoyed the video very much.
      Cheers
