This video showed and proved to me that is time for a new machine. Paul you are great explaining how this switches works. It is terrible, they should not make it bi-metal enforced, this is really old design. It is so much easier to do by computer program, Water is out of the machine to the door level? yes - no if yes, open door immidiatelly if no restart a drain cycle, tell the customer water in machine to high, draining. then open door. Paul you are did a fantastic job!
At 5 min 26 sec, finally a clue as to which wires to bridge to bypass a malfunctioning door-lock. Remove the door-lock after disconnecting the 3 wires leading to the lock. Bridge common to live. (Keep neutral isolated with insulating tape). Door-lock for my 21 year old machine no longer available so bypass was essential & machine is now working great.
Very well explained ! Never thought that they would use a heater mechanism to allow / disallow the latch to open. All along the years, could not understand why the small delay at the end of the cycle. Thank you.
Thank you for the information. I did use this knowledge to fix my LG front load washer with the DE error. No one else shows how the latch works. You did!!!!! After some thinking i decide not to buy new part, instead i take it apart to bypass by fooling it. Wedging a piece of plastic below the contact strip so it makes contact with the upper one did the trick. Very obviously the heating bimetallic strip was bad on mine thus causing the DE error. Furthermore I broke the plastic pin that prevents the door from opening once it is running. It works. No part replacement requires. Door can be opened during use but I do not care as long as it works. Besides who would open the door while it is running. Thanks again for showing how it works when no one else does. Knowing how it works is the key to figure out how to fix it or by pass it! I did and it worked. The metallic heating strip is common to fail as it heats up and cools down throughout its life and once that thing is toasted there will be no more contact goes in and out thus the DE error. Well if that were the case then i will fool it by providing the missing door lock signal mysel by bypassing it. Many appliance forum repair people said it can't be done. Well they either want to sell new part or don't know themselves how to bypass. I beg to differ!!!!!! Hope this helps someone. Attention! this mod. requires disassemble the latch switch assembly which is very easy and understand what i talk about here to do it. Good luck!

thx for the video, very nice explanation, would be nice to have such a test box also, did you make it yourself :D ? one day my mom's LG machine just jumped the fuses in the house and after that starting the program after a moment would give the dE (door) error I basically made an extra feather connecting live to common and pushing down live closer to common. worked just fine, the machine is now showing the door locked indication all the time the door still does lock in my case, just it takes 10 seconds after the program started now. so in my case the heating is still working it showed 800 ohm also between live and negative, it's just not strong enough anymore as it used to be
i dont think much of your logic... you need to think again. Never , ever, by pass a safety feature!!!!!!!!!!......... Anyone could open the door while the machine is in full spin,, children love to experiment, and will open the door, they could get a limb ripped off in the death roll of a crocodile.that is your machine. i am sure the judge will think you were very clever before he sends you to jail. please buy a new part before you kill some one.

Very good video when he mentioned and ohm reading on the heaters it is open or closed you dont need a resistance measurement in numbers its open or closed.
Thanks for this crash course in washing machine anatomy! It's a real pain if you can't solve a problem just because you don't know how the parts you are struggling with actually look like. It's always the same: as long as things work, I don't even ask myself how they do so. It's only when something stops doing what it's supposed to that people like me start asking questions xD!
I have a Next dinamic Hoover washer/dryer ,when i turn dial to program sometimes i get the padlock on display even though i have not pressed the start button and after a few seconds i get E16 error , i looked up the error for this and found out its the heater eliment could be faulty i changed the heater eliment but still get the same error code , somtimes the machine works ok and other times when i have not used it for a few days the error comes back on, i checked all possible reasons with pump blockages or water and drain pipes but found they are all ok, i think it could be the lock that you showed or something else!

Very well explained.My problem is that I tried to open the door after 15 minutes .It did open but it cracked .So now even if the door lock is in order and shifts but the door is not shutting. The crack I tried to stick as it was a hairline fracture but am now not able to shutbthe door. Its a WW 1995 model. Excellent machine .I wonder if the door can be replaced in India.
The problem ridden Whirlpool Duet HE3/HE3t series is different. One connector contains 2 wires that determine if the door is closed (switch - normally open circuit / closed when button is depressed). Another connector contains 2 wires that determines if the lock is locked or not (switch - normally open circuit / closed when lock mechanism is down). The final connector contains three wires. It connects to for lack of correct word - a center tapped solenoid. Apply voltage to middle and "outside" - and door unlocks. Apply voltage to middle and "inside" and door locks. Unfortunately, I have a short in one side of the coil. Hopefully I can find the part without purchasing the entire $80-$100 assembly.
Hi Ive got a whirlpool washing machine which shows the door open LED. I bought a new door interlock and replaced it, and it is still the same. Whirlpool have quoted £129 call out, £100 an hour labour and extra for parts needed, plus VAT, thats more than the machine is worth. Any ideas where I should look next? I have a Kenmore Washing machine 110.20222510, it is less that two years old. 3 months ago it held my Fiance's hostage until we took it apart. We bought a new lock assembly, replaced it and did one load of laundry. On load number 2 it locked the clothes in it again! So Kenmore machine that is less than 24 months old has had it's lock assembly replaced twice. What do I do?
I have a LG front loader washing machine, model number WD-8005. It has a DE error. I have checked the door switch and that tests out fine. I would appreciate any advice on what could be causing this problem. There is no 220V AC that across the door lock contacts. The main circuit board number is 6870EC9168A. Long shot ask... My door latch on my bosch is in the closed / locked position but the door isn't closed. I have the door latch out of the machine but can't see a way to release it to open again. It's a dks67617.. Don't suppose you'd know how to activate the switch? Thanks!

Hi Paul..Please could you help me with my wash..a Samsung B1045av..where the selector Knob freeze in just one position (in my case (cotton program) and due this the machine do not start the programs..Other buttons are working fine..When i play start..only a low noise I can hear..maybe the interloock..only after appears DE code..for door problems...But I think the interock is not the main problem of the circuit board..I think.. Is it the full 220 volts accross the coil and does the neutral switch on and off to prevent overheating of the coil or is there a resistance on the circuit.

could you offer me a quick help? I have a blown out transistor on the circuit board. z0607, someone linked it to the door lock mechanism, but mine functions just right, just that program on the machine stops immediately after 2-3 seconds. my question is, for testing purposes, if I disconnect the door lock, would it ignore it and start the program like it normally would?

I am a missionary in Tanzania and have use of a whirlpool washing machine. The lid lock seems to have a short in it some how as the led light flashes and the washer cycles in and out of proper functioning as contact is or is not present in the latch mechanism.Replacement parts here are very difficult to acquire and or procure so can you please explain how I can temporarily or possibly semi permanently bypass this switch?

Hi guys, my Ariston washer dryer combo won't recognize that the door is locked. I hear the lock latch, physically it won't open, but the door lock indicator (button with LED) turns from yellow to red and the unit won't continue. Any ideas?

This is a very long detailed video, but you didn't really explain what you were doing with the multimeter. What are you measuring? What units? What readings are you expecting?
He's checking resistance and checking when two terminals short, hence that's how this lock works, its a button basically.

Very good video when he mentioned and ohm reading on the heaters it is open or closed you dont need a resistance measurement in numbers its open or closed.

I have a Next dinamic Hoover washer/dryer ,when i turn dial to program sometimes i get the padlock on display even though i have not pressed the start button and after a few seconds i get E16 error , i looked up the error for this and found out its the heater eliment could be faulty i changed the heater eliment but still get the same error code , somtimes the machine works ok and other times when i have not used it for a few days the error comes back on, i checked all possible reasons with pump blockages or water and drain pipes but found they are all ok, i think it could be the lock that you showed or something else!
great info i to thought it would be a simple micro switch to lock unlock the door but n as i got inside witch then found myself watching your video to see the working as i thought id be able to just bypass it for now as the mrs is on my case now as like most stuff around the house its left till last minute now we have a pile of washing the mrs will have me doing laudry runs if not sorted soon. but thanks again for the info on the door workings even though i learnt something today and it wasnt as basic as i first thought.

Very well explained.My problem is that I tried to open the door after 15 minutes .It did open but it cracked .So now even if the door lock is in order and shifts but the door is not shutting. The crack I tried to stick as it was a hairline fracture but am now not able to shutbthe door. Its a WW 1995 model. Excellent machine .I wonder if the door can be replaced in India.
The problem ridden Whirlpool Duet HE3/HE3t series is different.
One connector contains 2 wires that determine if the door is closed (switch - normally open circuit / closed when button is depressed).
Another connector contains 2 wires that determines if the lock is locked or not (switch - normally open circuit / closed when lock mechanism is down).
The final connector contains three wires. It connects to for lack of correct word - a center tapped solenoid. Apply voltage to middle and "outside" - and door unlocks. Apply voltage to middle and "inside" and door locks.
Unfortunately, I have a short in one side of the coil. Hopefully I can find the part without purchasing the entire $80-$100 assembly.
Hi Ive got a whirlpool washing machine which shows the door open LED. I bought a new door interlock and replaced it, and it is still the same. Whirlpool have quoted £129 call out, £100 an hour labour and extra for parts needed, plus VAT, thats more than the machine is worth.
Any ideas where I should look next? As they wont tell me, but they sold me the interlock.

I have a Kenmore Washing machine 110.20222510, it is less that two years old. 3 months ago it held my Fiance's hostage until we took it apart. We bought a new lock assembly, replaced it and did one load of laundry. On load number 2 it locked the clothes in it again! So Kenmore machine that is less than 24 months old has had it's lock assembly replaced twice. What do I do?

I have a LG front loader washing machine, model number WD-8005. It has a DE error. I have checked the door switch and that tests out fine. I would appreciate any advice on what could be causing this problem. There is no 220V AC that across the door lock contacts. The main circuit board number is 6870EC9168A. If you have a circuit diagram that will be great. Thank you.
So does this mean that turning the washing power of at the wall will always release the thermal lock eventually after a couple of minutes?
Long shot ask... My door latch on my bosch is in the closed / locked position but the door isn't closed. I have the door latch out of the machine but can't see a way to release it to open again. It's a dks67617.. Don't suppose you'd know how to activate the switch? Thanks!

Hi Paul..Please could you help me with my wash..a Samsung B1045av..where the selector Knob freeze in just one position (in my case (cotton program) and due this the machine do not start the programs..Other buttons are working fine..When i play start..only a low noise I can hear..maybe the interloock..only after appears DE code..for door problems...But I think the interock is not the main problem of the circuit board..I think.. Is it the full 220 volts accross the coil and does the neutral switch on and off to prevent overheating of the coil or is there a resistance on the circuit.

could you offer me a quick help? I have a blown out transistor on the circuit board. z0607, someone linked it to the door lock mechanism, but mine functions just right, just that program on the machine stops immediately after 2-3 seconds. my question is, for testing purposes, if I disconnect the door lock, would it ignore it and start the program like it normally would?

Hi there I have a machine that locks but the locked indicator on the front panel does not illuminate. The machine fills with water but the motor to turn the drum never runs. Does the circuit need a signal from the door lock before it allows the motor to run? It is a curry’s essential C912WM18

I brought a new washer door lock assembly and latch because the washer would fill up but the door would not lock causing the washer not to work. I am a missionary in Tanzania and have use of a whirlpool washing machine. The lid lock seems to have a short in it some how as the led light flashes and the washer cycles in and out of proper functioning as contact is or is not present in the latch mechanism.Replacement parts here are very difficult to acquire and or procure so can you please explain how I can temporarily or possibly semi permanently bypass this switch?

Is the PTC heater 240v or something less?
It has to be 120 volt, the same as what the washer is feed with. They might be rated to 240 volt but Ive never heard of one .

My switch is just like the one you power up and show how it works. I sanded all the parts that had carbon build up put it back together and it works just fine.

Hi guys, my Ariston washer dryer combo won't recognize that the door is locked. I hear the lock latch, physically it won't open, but the door lock indicator (button with LED) turns from yellow to red and the unit won't continue. Any ideas?
