Most professional staff. I can never stop going back. On my first visit in 1958, I was there for the 100-year end of the Great War. God bless the staff that works there.

    RIP PFC Lester R Cory
    A Company
    18th Infantry Regiment
    1st Division
    Plot E Row 16 Grave 3
A farm boy from Grafton Ilinois who was KIA on 10-18-1918. 🕯️ (I randomly bought a postcard on eBay because I liked the picture. It turned out to be a piece of Lester's personal correspondence but I don't know if he ever got it because he was in France by July 1918 and it was sent to boot camp in June.)

My great grandfather (Unit L Company, 3rd Battalion, 310th Infantry) barely made it off that battlefield. God bless these men, my family wouldn’t exist if not for their sacrifice🇺🇸

How did these cemeteries built for WW1 hold up to WW2? Did the Axis powers respect these cemeteries and try to avoid them?

    • @usabmc

The Germans generally treated the cemeteries respectfully, and the cemeteries were cared for throughout the war by their local staff (ie, French and Belgian citizens employed by ABMC).
