My Mother made this every Christmas but with a few changes. She used crushed vanilla wafers instead of graham crackers, no marshmallows, and she added chopped dates or raisins. She would make several cakes and freeze them. Also, she would freeze the left over candied fruit. Thank you for bringing back a wonderful memory of my Mom. Merry Christmas and I hope your Christmas is full of blessings.
Leslie, I will be making this for Christmas 2022🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄 Thank you for sharing ♥️♥️ You are So Blessed to have not one , but two strong handsome young men to help you when you need it♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
My paternal grandmother made this every year and her last surviving child, my aunt, gave out this and several other recipes that Grandma was known for. Love it.
If you have one of the plastic cake savers like from Walmart that you keep a cake in on your counter, I’ve used the top of that before if I needed a very large bowl but didn’t have one. Just use the top of the cake saver as a bowl. Easy peasy! You and your husband are such special and kind people. And girl, I love your sense of humor. Hope you and yours have a very, merry Christmas. May the good Lord watch over you and your loved ones and keep you safe.
You know your momma was so proud of y'all. I took care of her at VCK and I and everybody else loved her. I came across your site last week and have been watching every since. God Bless y'all. Kathie Everhart
That looks so good.....My mom always made a ice box fruit cake.....But she used Vanilla wafers & cut the 3 sides from the side of the box & use it as a flap top lid & packed it back in there...Good memories !!!!!!!
I just found you and I love you both! I’ve been down with COVID since Dec 10th and then my husband got it. He’s doing great! He’s my rock after the Lord of coarse! He lost his sister to it and did not get to go to her funeral. We’ve been married for 50 years this year. I’ve got the blues today because I’m still so weak and no Christmas baking for my family. Thank you for sharing your kitchen with us! Wishing you and your family health and a blessed and very merry Christmas!🥰
I love the blue flow china antiques. My nana had some on her walls decorating the salong when I was a little girl.. and I remember looking at them and dreaming myself away... Those were the good ol days, back when... Love your ice box cake, there are so many kinds of them and may there be a cookbook of them all collected. Yours are saved and safe. Good bless! Stay safe in the storm.
I have my original recipe for that cake from way back in the 50’s. I didn’t think anyone made that anymore so very happy to see it again. I made that cake every year for Christmas. What I was a much younger woman. Have not been able to make for a long time but it sure looks good. TFS. Good memories.
My mom always mixed her Christmas fruit cake in the roasting pan. The same one she cooked the turkey in on Christmas Day, and we always had a really big turkey.
Doubt I will get it made for Christmas and it’s just going to be my Husband and myself for Christmas this year. Our kids are all going to be elsewhere that day. First year without see any of them so please pray for us. New Year’s Day we will see them so I will try to make it for that day. I love watching you and thank you for making my day a little brighter with a beautiful new recipe to try.
Been waiting on your recipe, I've always used my grandma's which is a couple ingredients different, but like you said you put what you like, but the one thing I liked about hers is she used the mini colored marshmellows to give even more color. AWESOME recipe!! I love this one too!!
Hey..I am like you...I don't like fruitcake But I LOVE THIS KIND...THANK YOU FOR SHARING WITH US...I WILL MAKE ONE OF THESE FOR CHRISTMAS...GOD BLESS AND MERRY CHRISTMAS
Cake looks yummy! So pretty! The center of the table pretty! The blue dishes are so lovely. But the best part is that they are a treasure from your mom. ❤️
Thank you for sharing. My mother made this every christmas since I can remember. It was my dad's favorite. My late aunt made it for my dad a few years ago. I no longer have my mom, dad, or aunt. I am the only one left to carry on this special Christmas dessert in my family. I will be making it for my son this year to carry on the tradition. God Bless and Merry Christmas!! We use canned crushed pineapple. No candied cherries.
I also have no more of my family left, i mean i have my hubby, kids and his family but my mom, my grandma, who was my entire life, and my uncle who was my father figure for my entire life since my father was a huge piece of $#%& , so i can sympathize with you. We never had fruitcake, nobody in our family was fond of it, but my grandma and mom were the best cooks ever, i really miss their cooking, i miss all the wonderful meals i grew up on. I am not a good cook like them and i dont have any of the recipes i grew up on.
Love your channel. I've made this no bake fruitcake. Years ago my recipe called for Graham crackers whole then crush them. Then you line the Graham Cracker box with wax paper, you break it done and use scotch tape then form it back and stuff it with the cake
I am an Okie who lives in Canada. I am so happy to have found this youtube channel. I LOVE your accent. It is so great to hear a southerner. I still get funny comments and stares even after 19 years. Yeeee Haw!!!
It's more like candy, but delicious. The one I remember as a child had vanilla wafers, chopped cherries, and lots of nuts. When mixed, put in loaf pan.
I know I just recently connected with you guys on TH-cam...but there was an instant attraction (mostly spiritual) and you are such a blessing. I shared with you about my little praying mother and how she raised all those children. She told us to pray about everything...ain't no harm calling on Jesus. So...we need a lot of prayer. 2 beautiful grandsons were born Wednesday. Rebecca already had 3. Well their daddy went into liver failure and died this morning. The mother is having complications and still hospitalized. So they don't have their mom with them during this horrible time. They want their mommy, but can't visit her in the hospital. They know their daddy is gone. And they can't see their new brothers. We got a call that both babies are now on NICU...one with breathing issues. One not feeding well. It seems overwhelming. But I have a God of nevertheless. I trust him. But we could use some extra prayer right now. Would you PLEASE pray?
My mamoe made an ice box fruitcake but instead of the cherries she used gumdrops. And sometimes added chocolate chips. Great cake cause you can add different things you like. Thank you for sharing your recipe!!
Oh I'm putting it on my grocery list. Love fruit cake. Thank you both sooo much. Every time I see one of your video's, I feel closer to God. Thank you both for all your teachings. 😘😘😘
I've never heard of this cake before. Hubby doesn't care for regular fruit cake, lol. His mom's tradition was to make a rum cake that had to set before eating for Christmas. We never cared for it, lol. Looking forward to seeing your finished bathroom remodel. The guys did a really good job! Merry Christmas to you and yours! Celebrating the birth of Jesus with you!
I just came across your channel I've been watching all of shows today!! I love all your recipes!! Keep them coming. Oh the hotdish should just be called that spaghetti hotdish.

I have a great nephew that’s a little blonde 3 years old and he’s allergic to all nuts and he’s the cutest thing ever he will asks if there’s any nuts in it before he eats it and that’s because he’s parents taught him to ask and to be careful before eating anything 💙 he’s so smart 💙
I am definitely making one of these cakes. It looks so delicious. I might try to make some in smaller pans and give it away for Christmas presents. Thank you so much for sharing.

Oh my gosh! That looks delicious! I'm sorry I didn't get a Christmas card out. I fell, fractured my ankle. I'll send it after surgery, because it was special to me!
