- After the Minority staged a walk-out in protest, the Majority in Parliament passed the Electronic Transactions Levy (E-Levy) despite public opposition and rejection.
The E-Levy adds a 1.5 percent surcharge to all electronic transactions, including bank and Mobile Money transactions.
When criticism to the law grew louder when it was first introduced, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta recommended lowering the tax from 1.75 percent to 1.5 percent.
