Tanya Wells is British/ Swiss and spent several childhood years living in North India where language, diverse music and culture informed the ears and imagination of this talented singer. Her flexible vocal style (attributed to years of having learnt Hindustani classical vocal) has given her opportunities to perform with world renown artists such as sitarist Anoushka Shankar (Cannes Film festival 2014), soul singer Joss Stone (Mama Stones 2013), Arabic vocalist Natacha Atlas (Ronnie Scotts 2016) as well as lay down vocals for award winning film composers such as A.R. Rahman and Nitin Sawhney. With a double Masters (with distinction) in International Performance Research, Tanya now embraces the praxis of bringing cultures together to tell stories through music.

This song was sung by Habib Wali Mohd for the Pakistani film ‘Badal aur Bijli’ and ‘Chand aur Chandni’, by writer Hashmi in late 1960s. Listen to that version. Second best version was by farida khanum who sang it for coke studio pakistan. Then finally pakistani singer shafqat amanat ali sang it for the dhaka festival. Pakistani singers are in a level of their own.

I don't have any real feelings about partition of India and Pakistan, as I was born ten years after partion. But I am deeply fond of Urdu shayari, Gazal, kabbawali, I get associated with Pakistani songs, tunes. Through books I have read, Intellectuals, I met from their lines, and I get emotional. Surprisingly, from our boyhood we learnt Pakistan as a country, is our natural enemy .But why? Question always remained unanswered in my mind. Now I am on the conclusion that it has been created by 'Power' of both the countries. Common people are equally fantastic at both the sides of border, it is very unfortunate.
When we are on any of third country land don't see any difference, experience no enmity. In the recent past I traveled south-east Asia, specially in Vietnam, I searched intensively to find out a secret , how did both the devided countries get United again, with similar spirit, similar inheritance! Are they much more patriot than us! Are they much more practical, are they devoted solely for their oneness!
Read many books on the reunification of Germany to find out their commited bonds for each other.
One question always knocked me, why common citizens of India and Pakistan not stepping forward together for oneness of both the seperated land?
It is a defeat for all the common man in both the countries. Socially, spiritually, we can make a try at least, if not possible Militarily.
