LEGO Star Wars 75396 DESERT SKIFF & SARLACC PIT Review! (2024)

- The LEGO Star Wars Summer 2024 Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit had promise but once you saw what you got for $80 it just isn't enough. For $80, you might expect perfection though but LEGO "Only The Best Is Good Enough" Star Wars simply can't deliver. The Empire Strike Back LEGO Boba Fett Minifigure would be great if this set wasn't from Return of the Jedi!

For reference when this set was first rumored to be $80, I assumed it would have TWO Desert Skiffs & a Sarlacc Pit...
only the best is good enough. now give us 80 bucks
Would make sense, this is a great $60 set and then add another skiff for an extra $20. Defiantly could've seen it especially because this is accompanying a $500+ set, but no lets just include a $30 skiff and an apparently $50 sarlacc pit.
Only true sigmas saw him build it on stream
I mean MandR, you’re not wrong, if this set was going to remain $80, at least another desert skiff and a few of Jabba’s guards would have justified the price and I guess the boba fett minifigure could have use his cape and a slightly different arm printing
Fortnite all night
We can finally Use Nien Nunbs Torso to make Rebel Friend!!!
I was thinking the same exact thing!
Yeah but if you put red arms on 973pb2653c01 it also works well
@@Raymond_ramen-s4hno way you acc know the exact part code 😂 it does work as well though
@@alexnicholson9329 oh I just went on bricklink to find the code
@Rays_bricks You, sir are a scholar and a gentleman
This set ia absolutely awesome but $80 is wild
At this point I will just part the set out
Fr
How so? 6 mini figures with accessories and 1 of which is a brand new first ever in Lego min figure, not to mention 2 great looking builds. I do agree it’s slightly overpriced, should’ve been $70, but once again people are complaining and overreacting
@@Ghjgfjjgv $80 is insane. This is a $50 set
@@thegreatpiginthesky3904 $50? It should have been a 23 dollar set, I mean if you can do the set once a decade ago for 12 you can surely do the set now for 23.
Remember when battle packs use to cost 10$ you would be able to buy 8 battle packs which means you would end up with 32 mini figures
Yeah. I miss those times.
In the uk you can get the newer 501st battle pack 2 for £20 which is £10 each so thats nice
And a quarter pounder at McDonald's used to cost $3 and its around $7 now..
Lego must cut back on price or else in the future battle packs will start to cost 50$
Back in my day, sarlacc pits didn't even have beaks! Now them sarlaacs are chopping and chomping at everything, with them great big snappers they got on 'em.
I guess folks today just ain't got the patience to just be slowly digested for a thousand years, no more... ( 👴) smh
Awesome set but only for like $40, more than that is nuts
Na 60-65$ would be reasonable
$40 is asking for way too little, $50-60 is a perfect range imo
$40 is a good deal. $50 would be still acceptable but I am optimistic that it will reach these prices
What are you talking about?😂 I agree that 80$ is insanely overpriced, but 40$ is asking WAY too much. Considering 558 pieces and 6 minifigs, I would say 60$ would be reasonable, and 50$ would’ve been great
60-70 would be fine
The fact they included the wrong Boba Fett is the best part
He still looks good
Who cares bruh
Like, I didn't even know he looked different in RotJ
What are the differences?
Also, is it the same Boba Fett from the Mech?
I don't think he said one way or the other. 🤔
Maybe he can make a short explaining the differences..😊
@@legoforestmen3234 that would be horrendous 😭
Boba not having a cloth pauldron is the perfect example of the slippery slope - people defend the printed kamas, so lego figures it's fine to remove cloth from other minifigs too. How long until lego starts cutting corners with the actual builds?
One could argue that they already are, they're charging $80 for this thing
It’s already happening
I wouldn’t say people defend them. I think everyone thinks they look bad. The problem is, is that Lego knows that we’ll buy the sets no matter what. The way to get Lego to change things is to not buy the sets where the inaccuracies bother you
@@Darnley_10thats why the biggest way for lego to notice that the fans dont want printed kamas is to vote with our wallet. If we don’t like it just don’t buy it.
The price only gets worse when you think of the sarlacc pit with 3 figures costing $50 and the skiff with 3 figures costing $30
We still should’ve got 2 skiffs and a sarlac for 80 bananas
I'm going to mail Lego 80 bananas and see if they send me this set.
Also some jabba hench mans
Maybe if they included 2-3 Jabba henchmen? Technically the only enemy here is Boba Fett and in the film there are 4 guards on the skiff
Man how tf is the tie bomber cheaper then a set then a set that has 100 pieces less 😭
I liked the figure comparisons to the movie scenes, DO IT MORE!
I think if it was $85 and came with another Skiff and like 2 more minifigures, this could have been one of the best sets of the year. But $80 for one Skiff is absurd
But how many people actually want two skiffs? Easy solution is $40 Skiff with small Sarlacc like the last one ($10 more because inflation). Then the people who want two can get two, and kids can actually afford it.
@@RegeorWith the extra figure it would propably be 45$
While it isn't shown as an official play feature, the stands on the Skiff and the exposed studs at the rear of the Sarlacc Pit allow you to perch the Skiff upon the edge of the pit, raising the Skiff to an appropriate height and combining both builds into a single diorama-esque display.
$80 is wild
The great thing about nien numb is that you can use his torso to make a rebel friend
For 80 we should have gotten both skiffs, it would have been perfect to complete the jabbas sail barge scene
+ a guard or two, Weequay and Nikto or something
@@satinflowers3330 yes
Most other reviews I watched didn't even mention the Boba Fett being from the wrong movie. Glad that we can count on Ryan to give us the full picture.
Other reviewers are just bad.
There’s barely any difference between esb boba and rotj boba. Stop being crybabies over a minifig
@@justadudeinterestedintitan3569 I honestly would not have known about the Boba because I don't follow star wars too closely, and for me it was nice to learn that he has different versions in this review.
@@WarwithBricks but there isn’t lol. Look up a picture of the boba Fett in the movie and compare that to the one in empire strikes back. They’re the exact same
Bro thinks everyone is blind like him
An extra dirty/sandy Boba Fett and maybe even a spot beside the Sarlacc Pit for him to climb out would’ve went so hard.
"When you're paying so much money, you shouldn't have any questions about quality." God, amen. Wish people like MandR were in-charge of and calling ALL the shots of the companies and franchises we all know and love so much! He simply just gets it.
This looks like a good $40 set, although there's no excuse for the wrong Boba Fett.
There’s barely any difference between esb boba and rotj boba
Also no Jabba Hench man
@@justadudeinterestedintitan3569 but it exists and they did it correctly last time. And at these prices, we should be getting the correct figure print. If it were 40 I'd probably forget about it. 25 years of experience and they start making rookie mistakes. And it's not just the print here but the added up screw ups on their part. From wrong logo on the UCS gunship to calling the yellow clone pilot. I'm shocked they werem't the ones that said "anakin blew up the deathstar" lmao
Considering how many Boba Fett minifigures that they have made in the past few years, it's wild to me that they haven't made a special EE-3 mold yet, or found a better way to make a brick built one. Fetts blaster is supposed to be a custom sawn-off model but in all the minifigures the barrel is the longest part!
Well LEGO hasn’t made the clone blasters or the droid blasters either. I guess that’s why clone army customs or other 3rd party websites are a thing.
I CAN’T wait for the comparison video. So glad I got the 2017 version so I can combine them.
Its crazy, we paid an extra £30 for a hill on a salracc PIT build
Honestly, you pretty much said all my feelings about this set, I love the builds, the minifigs are solid, but I'm gonna be waiting to buy it until it's at most 60$ on sale
I feel really, really bad for the designer who was handed this price point and had to build that lump of a Sarlacc pit to match it.
If LEGO truly cared, they should allow buyers of the set (QR code scan) to register online to get a correct Boba Fett figure sent out for free.
I'd also say give the pieces for a second skiff and some extra Jabba guards, but that'd be pushing it...
For $80 dollars they could have included 3-4 more minifigures
Like an update Pagetti Rook or Kithaba, Vedian the skiff pilot, and Velken Tezeri.
Note: Pagetti Rook was the Weequay guard released in the 2013 Sail Barge for some reason.
Could have included another skiff, I mean there are some lego sets with more pieces for the same price.
Lego Star Wars is such a big mess.
Edit: Would really love to get a Skiff Guard Battle packs.
$120 AUD is nuts
its the same price. $80 = $120 AUD
Not getting this or Battle on Peridea until they are on sale. Anyone complaining about the price but still buying it at full price is part of the problem.
I have one kislux bag I got in 2019, it's the LV white catogram speedy. It's counter quality and it has a nice honey patina now, so the leather is real. I think whatever makes you happy go for it. I've seen LV with plastic leather and blood red glaze...
My biggest issue with the pit is that the opening isn't round. At this price point, they could AT LEAST get the shape right.
And without it being a proper diorama, I think I'll pass on it and get the anniversary minifigure on BrickLink. Unless I find it for half the price of course.
Great set but for that price i wish there was another skiff :(
flaws: if rewatch this scene, luke's hair flip always to the opposit side (left, not right). And no yellow stripes on Han's trousers. And no skiff guard ..
Han’s shirt is printed in reverse too. In the movie it looks like they reversed some frames and Lego worked from these, and not the later shots (over the Sarlacc pit) where the frames are correctly used. Compare the figure in this set with a Bespin Freezing Chamber Han Solo and you can see the difference…
You're right about the Fett figure. Wild price for the wrong fig!
Hey Ryannnnnnn, where’s the comparison at?
Love the review tho
I’ve got the 2017 and the new 2024 skiff and I gotta say that there is much more space in the new one, before all the figures were packed in but now it looks much better on display
Yeah this set is like the Justified from the 2022 summer wave. Great build, WAY OVERPRICED. Definitely gonna wait for it to go on rollback at Walmart or something
What about the dessert skiff guards? Very inaccurate to not include one…
You can combine the clears from the 3 stands to just the one in the middle to raise it higher. It’ll look so much better
0:00 “This might be the most overpriced LEGO Star Wars set of 2024.
Lego Crimson Firehawk: Am I a joke?
Be funny to switch out Sarlacc with a Mario Piranha Plant!!
Thanks for the review Ryan! Very good set, especially for all us OST fans... AMAZING exclusive minifigure... but TOO EXPENSIVE! Even more in Greece (84.99€)!!! INSANE!!!
Lego has you by the balls on this one , you are a captive audience , most who get the Skiff are getting the Sail barge . Its a complete set 2 months apart . I have been anticipating the Barge since Haslab released their version , as soon as i seen it i thought Lego better get off their rears and give us one too , better late then never . And by judging by the size of the Skiff we know how big the Barge isnt . Top review Ryan .
The 2012 set was one of my first Star Wars sets, so despite the $80 price I will most likely be picking it up day one
Really awesome set, maybe they could’ve made up some of that cost by throwing in a couple skiff guards. That’s my biggest complaint that wasn’t mentioned in this video, I kinda wish the set had a couple generic jabba goons to fight instead of JUST boba Fett. Small thing thoufh
I honestly didn't even know that boba fett looked different in episode 6
@@SuperTJdude Whether you knew about it or not doesn’t change the movie
Different coloured jetpack, cape and gauntlets are the main things although there are a few more minor detail changes as well
@@Ultimate_Toast I only remember green armor and a jump suit under it.
I tried rewatching star wars in timeline order but the clone wars is such a hard watch nowadays
@@TheDarkFuryKnight Why is it a hard watch nowadays.
@@Ultimate_Toast Belt was majorly changed. I wish Lego would make these variants because they always were very proud to point it out in the Minifigure Dictionarys of old.
Got mine off Temu for $60 came in authentic Lego shipping box and everything definitely worth looking into if your worried about that $80 price tag
MandR Will You Ever Sell A Boba Cape Replacement? There's Not Any Good Alternatives, And I Thought It Would Be A good Thing For Your Store!!!
8:41 maybe the reason for that bigger clear piece is so you can stack the others on that piece and elevate the skiff. Just my suggestion 🤷♂️
Very excited for this set! I recently bought Jedi Boba Fett and the weequay guards from the previous barge and skiff so i can complete the scene!
I can't wait to get this on bricklink for cheap minus the Nien Numb figure. The same thing happened for the new R2d2 with Malak. You can get the r2d2 for about $35!
I am definitely going to add 4 to 5 clear pieces on each support on the bottom to give it a better sitting compared to the sarlacc pit
I'm gonna buy an episode 6 boba and get some custom arms for him, switch out the head for the new one, and call it a day
I would love to hear how Lego chose the price for this set. Like what specifically in this set made it worth $80 to them?
The thing I don't understand is that the Boba Fett figure could have just been made a Return of the Jedi one originally. Like the Mech didn't have to be Empire themed and the figure hasn't been used in any other Empire sets. Just make the mech RotJ and then it would have been accurate in both sets. Just seems like really poor planning.
I like the design of the sarlaac but was it that rectangular in the pit?
Yeah I really don't like how rectangular it is here. The "real" pit is basically a circle.
Why would the sarlac Pit being so big increase the price THAT drastically? The price is because it includes a lot of Minifigures
Overpriced yes but as an adult that has just started getting into legos, this is on my list to buy. Thank you so much for your reviews. I always wait to buy and see what you say and how you feel about it before making the jump to buy.
This is an amazing review
Take all the clear pieces on the bottom of the skiff and put them together, attach to the pit and you would have the height
This is an amazing set! For $50...
i’ve been looking forward to this set for a very long time. When I consider that I’ll be buying a $500 brown blob, an extra $80 doesn’t seem so bad
Jus wait afew months itll be on discount
A solid $50 clearance purchase! Great video as always though Ryan! 🙏
Given how dense that Saarlac looks, I wonder if technic pieces could be attached to the handles for the play feature to use as a flight stand for the skiff?
I would love the buy this set (Nien Numb being a big draw). I’ve not had a Sarlacc pit or skiff before so there’s that.
To be honest, I didn’t even notice or care that Boba Fett was different.
It's a mini fig hat... sensei wu will remember that 😂
The scene doesn’t make sense without Weequay. The whole point was that the heroes are outnumbered in this scene… other than fett, makes no sense for Luke to be in danger
Could not agree more with the price! But at $80 if you subtract $5 per minifig for $30 off the price and then compare the build of 558 pieces for $50 comes around the 8.9c per piece doesn't seem as way off, but then again it just doesn't look like a $50 set.
Big question for me is if any of these figs come in the sail barge as this will really impact the value of buying both. Agree with all your review thoughts both fair and balanced. Thanks for the review!
Looks like a great set minus the Boba fig. Hopefully LEGO puts it on sale soon.
Yeah I’m buying when it hits sale tbh.
it is also missing at least one of the soldiers who was also on the Skiff and ended in the pit, strange you did not mention this
$80 and they can’t even get the Boba correct, or give him the shoulder cap thing
ooo this looks cool
The fact that the skiff doesn’t have enough transparent pieces to elevate it over the Sarlacc essentially makes the whole set undisplayable
I love the build and the figures (aside from boba), but i ain’t paying $80. I’m waiting till the inevitable sale.
I just hope that people won't buy the sets that are overpriced with inaccurate figs. I see a lot of reddit posts where people buy things on day one and then complain about the price. Totally valid complaint sometimes, but then don't buy it full price
$80 is a joke.
For us Canadians, that's $100.
It really is overpriced, but $80 in USD is equivalent to $109 in Canadian dollars... so i really don't get this complaint
@343Films
$100 for that, when I'd pay, maybe $40 CAD is ridiculous
Dafuq. whats even the point of this comment.
@@100Creed
Had something to say. Welcome to an open discussion on bs prices and currency conversion
@@izenheimreborn6390 Why do you even mention what it’s in Canadian dollers. It’s the fcking same price. Do you understand that? 80$ is the same as 110C$. So you want to say that you are lucky in Canada to pay less? Is that your point?
Who else thinks chewie should have some sand details like they did in 2022 with snow details?
Most of the sets recently have been defendable in terms of price but every single set past the June wave is indefensibly expensive and disappointing even without considering price
Not sure anyone can disagree that for the upcharge in price it's so bad on LEGO's end to have messed up the Boba Fett. Luke's torso should be black with then lighter printing, I don't see DBG as his robe color at all. But like you said the builds are great, just a little overpriced
Love the vids MandR! Keep up the great work!
Thanks! Will do!
Later but still on point with putting the review out today
There was some world news that might've distracted me for a few hours lol
@@MandRproductions*rump?
@@MandRproductionsmost definitely
The UCS Sale Barge and 25th Anniversary prevented us from getting the best desert skiff and sarlac pit so far. With the pit as a side build, not a quasi-diorama second main build, without the anniversary fig and for half the price.
amazing job as always Ryan but is the old skiff helmet really better? the printing on the new one is much cleaner and sharper, and with no mistakes
It’s going to be amazing paired with Jabba’s sail barge!
I find the Sharlac Pitt to be disappointing just those 2 round pieces imo you can make it much better with Lego
I feel the creature needs more movement then what it has
On Lando, I think I like the torso better from the 2012 set, but the rest is better with the new set. To bad there was not a weequay skiff guard included
Ok. What IS the difference between Jedi and Empire Boba Fett in terms of minifig? The hands and a slight recolor?
The whole jumpsuit is gray so no sand blue blue whatsoever. I would not expect them to put a blue jetpack but the gauntlets on his arms should be dark red and have a red belt. Also saw some people think the cape is the same as the ucs one but in RoTJ he has an olive green one.
Last time they made the sarlaac pit set, boba fett had all these things except for arm printing, which was rare back then. Oh well.
I feel like this $80 set is the definition of modern Lego Star Wars inflation with many small problems for the set and being overpriced when this is more like $60
I want it real bad honestly, but it’s got to be on sale. Price is absurd
Feel like the sail barge should’ve came first and the sarlac after like thr no way home set and sandman as like a dlc. I would’ve liked dual molded legs for han
Cool review 🙏
I juste made an Alternate Build of this set, an AAT 😃
And the instructions are my Rebrickable 🙏
(Same pseudo)
Why is the pit itself for the sarlac like, rectangular or an oval??
Makes me sick that it will cost probably $100 here in Canada. I could never justify that price for so little. Which is sad because my sons(7,4) love the set and will be devastated when we don’t get it. It’s becoming very hard to be a Lego Star Wars fan these days. Love the review Ryan.
I've been leaning more towards collecting other Lego sets lately because of the overpriced low quality sets being put out for SW.
I'm glad I have one of the earlier desert skiff sets. If I didn't this would be a must have, but that price point would make it difficult,so a pass for me.
I'm definitely getting this, but I'll wait for clearence
