He just needs to go for minimum stress instead of budget still, would be such an interesting set of tweaks different to his other videos. Way more engineery, might have to drop the video ending with a break though 😅
I know you start every video saying “hello fellow engineers,” but I just got news this morning that I passed my professional engineer license exam! It’s true! Look at me, I’m a fellow engineer now!
@@RealCivilEngineerGaming You could just try going for the lowest stress possible. Staying within the budget but breaks are allowed so you can keep on trying.
Yeah, Matt seems to do a pretty straight bridge across with tons of steel support at first (supposedly the lowest stress one might imagine) and then optimizes the same solution for budget by removing parts a lot of the time. I guess that's just how you play the game, but I feel like lowest stress isn't actually that easy to achieve. Materials have their own weight in this game, and using lots of steel kinda makes the bridge itself heavier. This usually doesn't break a bridge, but the stress is probably a bit higher than it needs to. Using say, an arch, might not only save budget, but also create a much more stable bridge I think (if said arch isn't the bare minimum in terms of support). I'd love for him to actually try minimizing stress for one, it might be a nice opportunity to compare many different bridge types and test their efficiency (like budget/"stress" ratio).
Agreed. I've been yelling at my laptop screen whenever he tries to do that because it feels like he's trying to throw away the point of the video. I wish he could just focus on minimising the stress for the unbreaking videos and then come back at a later video to see how he could minimise budget, because it's a completely different video type.
22:12 gotta love how Matt just kept going and completely defeated the whole purpose of the video RCE, whether Real Civil Engineer, or Real Crazy Entertainer... They should setup a "hard core mode" challenge where you have to go through an entire set of bridges with no breaks (ever), under budget. Then have a leaderboard for the entire set so we can see who was able to complete the challenge with the lowest budget. People may have to start doing (_shudder_) maths to figure out what is reasonable to even attempt.
There should be a leader board that combines budget and stress. Something like Budget * 1.XX (XX=stress) Then you can make the decision if making it cheaper is worth the risk.
Well that’s a good idea other than that if you took a moment to look at the calculation you would realise it’s not quite right... It should be (cost/budget)/0.[stress].
@kianandtheviolin I don't agree with your assessment since lower scores are better for both cost and stress. If two players both spent 5000 but player A had 42 stress and player B had 69 stress. Player A would score 7100. Player B would score 8450. Player A has lowest score and wins.
@@kianandtheviolindividing by the max budget would change the absolute numbers, but wouldn't affect the leaderboard rankings, since the budget is a constant on any particular level. I'm pretty sure the OP meant cost and not max budget. Adding 1 to the stress wouldn't make a difference either unless someone manages to get 0% stress, but you may as well include it. But a simpler formula that would probably work fine would be cost * (1-stress).
@@Squirl513 I think I hadn't seen your comment when I posted but you're right and my formula wouldn't work either. I don't think it should be 1+stress because stress is the more important quantity and shouldn't have its impact on the score diminished.
Matt, you should try that "you break you lose" challenge but everytime you completed a level, you must do the next level 500$ under budget and it increases every level
Day 249:Dear Matt, I have a very good video idea Gather all your editors and make them all have 3 chances to make the cheapest, best and most efficient bridge, or the best score on any motorway game(e.g AQR, that one train game, ect...), or who make the longest and most efficient shapes. And see who is the best editor and is worthy of the rank of a classified engineering. When are we getting a ‘real civil architect’ video of Matt trying to make the prettiest bridges that are way over budget and have nothing to do with engineering
I personally enjoyed this video and the previous one like this a lot more than the traditional polybridge videos you make (don't get me wrong those are also great).

Hey Matt, just a suggestion, could you go to the gallery of your weekly challenge and show off the RCE Propo- I mean could you take a look at the fan's bridges (maybe rate them?) now that it's officially out and people have had time to do it I made my own, It's exactly budget, and I suck so it had a max stress of basically 100 too but I'm curious about your reaction!

You should try playing Derail Valley it is a realistic train simulator with a fair few bridges!! and it calls you an Engineer at the start of the tutorial! and you can crash the trains into each other and blow up fuel tankers.
Hey, RCE got a question thin you can talk them into adding Corpus Christi's Harbor Bridge .. the new one they have going up I feel is gonna be way over budget and 90% stress it was originally designed by Figg they have been fired but project has been halted couple times now. When you do the safety videos you should trying for lowest stress % within the allotted budget.
In the top right corner of the home screen you can actually choose any vehicle as your profile pic, including you and Paddy in the G-Wagon!
