  • Br. Guy Consolmagno has an incredible job. He is the Pope's astronomer at the Vatican Observatory. Most people do not even know that the Vatican has an official astronomical observatory with telescopes in Italy and the USA. The Vatican and astronomy have a long history dating all the way back to 1582 and the Gregorian reform of the calendar. The observatory also has one of the major collections of meteorites in the world, with over 1100 pieces from the depths of space.
EWTN's Colm Flynn visits the Vatican Observatory in Castel Gandolfo in Italy to meet Br. Guy Consolmagno and find out more about this hidden part of the Vatican.

"If you've ever lost the passion to do what you're doing, then you've lost the passion to do it." Beautiful and can be applied to anything. I've always wondered why this part of the Church has been obscured, it would be nice to acknowledge more the commonalities between science and religion than the divisions. I want to believe that the Big Bang was the time when God said "Let there be light!"

Well, actually, he said "If you ever lose the passion to do what you're doing, then you've lost the reason to do it".

I hope Brother Guy Consolmagno considers contacting Anton Petrov.
I suspect there have been many Carrington Events in Earth's history. But there have 5 Carrington Events which resulted in Massive Extinction Events.
      445 Million Years Ago
      355 Million Years Ago
      250 Million Years Ago
      200 Million Years Ago
      66 Million Years Ago
This.might explain why there have extinction periods combined with multiple mutations at various different times in the milliins of years in Earth's history. This might even explain Gould's observation's of Punctuated Equilibrium.

Sadly I fear most "Freethinkers" have either thought of "reclaiming" it for Science or Burning it down.

Great interview by Colm Flynn! I've had the pleasure of meeting Bro. Guy once before, and he's just as delightful in person as he is in this interview. Can't wait to be on an upcoming retreat with him!

This man is great! I've watched many videos of him.
I think science and religion shouldn't be in conflict, you can have both. They can coexist!
I see science as away of understanding God's creation.
When it comes to science and faith I stand for the following:
    1. Dialogue
    2. Embracing science
    3. Reconciliation/interpretation
    4. Promotion of science in religious circles

Sadly many Religious have been fooled by those promoting the Conflict of Religion and Science already and think you are pushing God away by promoting Human Science.
This entire conflict has become Self feeding now.

Maybe the Church of Christ should have an observatory too. Of course, we would allow the public in - and stand at the door with an offering plate. And of course, it would compete with the budget to resurface the parking lot.
I like Guy. It didn't take a 1000 years to make the BB look naive - JWST has us questioning everything now.
