    I live in Newton Tx ( East TX) and have a small private lake in my back yard. This week I have had six roseate spoonbills in the lake. Never seen them before. Beautiful birds!!

    I feel so blessed…the first year I moved to my new home in Sebastian Fl. They were resting in my backyard…I had never seen them before. Now I look for them every year.

    I just returned from Rockport, TX and there were about 20-30 Roseate Spoonbills at the protected bird sanctuary at Rockport Beach. It was thrilling to observe the interactions of these unique creatures with one another. I have never seen this many grouped together in the wild. #bucketlist

    Interesting video about this colorful species, common where I live in Argentina. I am very happy to see them and I enjoy photographing and filming them as soon as I have the opportunity.

    I saw a juvenile Roseate Spoonbill in Washtenaw County Michigan in July 2021. Very rare and lots of speculation how it got there, but still was a beautiful bird. Maybe it got off course in migration or an escaped bird from a zoo. Thanks for your videos!

    They supposedly live in So. Calif--born there, lived there for 45 yrs, and never saw one. Lived at the beach half of my life, camped, enjoyed the outdoors. Saw a condor in the wild before they were captured for breeding, remember brown pelicans on every pier. Weirdest thing was seeing a stork in Santa Clarita, flying over the Santa Clara dry river bed. Everywhere you saw signs of storks in front yards when people had babies--blew me away to realize I was seeing a live one. Not rare but rare to me. Yet I never saw one of these beautiful birds. TY.

    These birds are really cool :) I SO wanted to get some great shots of them last Spring Down in South Texas. But the only two I found, were juveniles with almost no pink coloration + at a long distance + taking a nap with there bills tucked into there feathers :( Sure hope to get them next time :) Nice vid. Thank you :)

    Yes, I've seen them, in Texas and in Florida. I've also seen the Eurasian (in Sweden too, which was a big deal) and the African. I hope to realize my dream to get to Australia in 2024, thereby giving me the opportunity to see 2 more 🙂

      It's a breeding plumage coloration! Likely helps to attract a mate.

    would love it see them but never have ---- you bring up a very good "thought" ... we as humans (and you can really notice it in animals like dogs) get gray hair as we age so do birds get gray feathers??? I would think it to be around their "face area" but do birds go gray?? I know many birds don't live long enough to get old like some mammals but as you showed the spoonbill to lose its head feathers do birds get gray feathers??

    • @BadgerlandBirding
      @BadgerlandBirding  ปีที่แล้ว

      In general I don't think birds get gray feathers, some may look more tattered over time though.

    Hey guys. Could you do a video about birding techniques? I.e. pishing? I never have luck drawing out birds with pishing. I must be doing something wrong… 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @BadgerlandBirding
      @BadgerlandBirding  ปีที่แล้ว

      We'll definitely add it to the video ideas list! Sometimes I feel like pishing does absolutely nothing. Other times, especially with warblers or chickadees it works well.
