Thank you for the excellent footage. The government may wish to erase any history of Wittenoom but your film does justice to those poor souls who were once part of that industry.

Actually it might be good to erase the remnants and seal the mine of Wittenoom. History can be saved in a Way where dumb people don't bring their children into a highly asbestos contaminated area.

It’s hard to believe how dangerous this fibre is. I lost a customer to Asbestos related cancer. It was awful to see him struggling on a ventilator. He was a carpenter and had done asbestos cladding for 6 months in the late 60s . It was enough to end his retirement early and leave his wife broken hearted .

I worked at an Holden factory about 14 years after they cleared out , all they still did there was to have a spare parts Warehouse, the rest of the old buildings were either empty or leased to a hardware company, transport companies, manufacturing, etc .
The roofing was all asbestos plus other areas.
I was working by myself one day, other workers were in another building, came out of lunchroom to see some guy I didn't know walking around, I asked what he was doing as the.manager would've wanted me to ! .
He said he was a contractor employed by the body corporate, to monitor asbestos levels, he had a meter, and told me my area was within acceptable levels,
However, he went on to say that another building that was sealed off , was ,. basically a deathtrap..
      😥

Given all the steps taken so far to restrict people from the risk of exposure, I'm surprised that the state government hadn't just set off demolition charges at each of the entrances. The only reason I can think of is cultural sensitivity, albeit belated.

This footage fills me with so much dread lol. I knew someone who died from asbestosis (and that was from WHITE, not the hundred times deadlier blue) and let's just say it's not a fun way to go out. If we didn't realise just how deadly asbestos was at the time, I shudder to think what we consume now that we aren't fully aware of the dangers of.

@ExperimentalHV As I shake my head, I say, at least you made an attempt by wearing PPE, although I'd have liked to seen HOW you removed it without breathing in all of the sea of fibres that were in view inside the mine, and the unseen ones outside, especially as you walked in them (It only takes ONE fibre to start the ball rolling) - I say in all sincerity; I hope in the ensuing years and decades, you still think it was worth it for content...

-tape your suits shut at arms and legs
-wear a full face mask with two filters
    -wear thick gloves
    Throw away everything afterwards

It would be nice, if you could focus on the content of my comment first and possibly criticise, if you don't agree with a point. I don't think it's fair trying to take validation away from my comment by making fun of my profession.
