      Because QB play is king. And a great QB paired with a well rounded team is a damn formidable thing.
      Sure he may not have looked the best individually this year, but if the Steelers (my team) could have Mahomes as our QB, I'd instantly consider us instant super bowl contenders. I think every team in the league would trade their QB for Mahomes for the upcoming postseason.

    Vikings fan here: What the media gets wrong is thinking Darnold is this "Jeckyll and Hyde" high variance quarterback whose peaks and valleys are going to dictate the course of our offensive success. Darnold has actually been very consistent in "what he is" over the year: a QB who can rise to the level of his circumstances who can throw deep bombs but will occasionally make turnover worthy plays. The quantity of those plays is about the same, the only difference is whether defenses capitalize on it or not. I feel like the success of the offense game to game has much more to do with how well we're able to establish the run than what side of the bed Darnold woke up on.
    Another thing that they don't necessarily "get wrong" but can't make up their mind about is KoC's play calling when ahead. In every game where we lost or almost lost a lead (Packers, Jets, Lions) half the talking heads say KoC screwed it up by playing too conservatively, and half the talking heads say he screwed it up by playing too aggressive. I'd love for someone who actually knows ball to break down why two camps say completely opposite things about the same game.

    • @Eidenhoek
      @Eidenhoek วันที่ผ่านมา

      Issue is that conservative and liberal playcalling...aggressive. Conservative and aggressive, yeah. Issue is, that the way to counteract those two philosophies are different. Blitz a lot? Quick passes, slants, and so on. Prevent? Throw underneath, run the ball more, and so on.
      Those philosophies might have similar chances of success, but if a team knows/predicts what you're going to do...yeah, ya get screwed.
      Take the Lions fake punt: I can't remember *who* got behind the screening wall, but they *completely* ruined the play (or, y'know, did what they were supposed to do, if you're a Viking). Had they *instead* flowed sideways, the fake might have worked.
      Buuuuuuut there's going to be a kind of play where penetrating vertically early is *bad*, so...
      Really, playing from ahead, if we're talking not like the last five minutes or whatever, is just taking the playclock to 5 or so when the game clock is running, every play you can. If you're ahead, you don't want the game to continue. Take the time, play your same game as before.

      I think more for the Ravens, it just a physical and mental mismatch for teams no matter who you play. You cant stop Henry. If you do, Lamar is gonna eat you on the ground. If you stop Lamar, then Henry is gonna rip you to shreds. They have a fantastic defense and good coaching staff. The Ravens I think are the best overall team in the league. Best defense and offense combined. Lamar is the best rushing qb, and is a good passer with a couple limitations as a passer. But when you add in Derrick Henry, it sure helps out the team.

    • @fanboy50
      @fanboy50 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@JoshAllen17Goated I'm not even sure Lamar has "a couple limitations as a passer". If you're comparing him with other elite QBs, sure, maybe he doesn't have as many peak strengths (he doesn't have Mahomes or Allen's arm strength or large frames, for instance, he's not as accurate as Mahomes or Goff at their best) but he's, at worst, solidly above-average to great at basically everything. Even the one thing he's historically not been great at (countering the blitz) he's made huge strides in. Add that to his instincts and ability to extend plays and create opportunities off-schedule, and you have an elite playmaker.
      No, what really kills defenses is that it's *three* things to defend: they can go big and stop Henry, got fast and stop Lamar on the ground, or crowd the line to stop both and get absolutely torched through air.

      @@fanboy50 You know what White Savior Complex is? It's exactly what it sounds like. "I'm not even sure Lamar has "a couple limitations as a passer".
      What, you don't remember the huge press conference the Ravens called to announce that Lamar was 'limited' & what those limitations were to me, you, media & all the rest of the teams in the NFL? That's because this is an entirely made up rumor.
      See, Greg Roman did th-cam.com/video/HkNpZxq80N4/w-d-xo.html. He also did other things like th-cam.com/video/JgfB_4DgnEQ/w-d-xo.html.
      A fan said his 7-year-old always knew what side he was sending the run as Roman *_ALWAYS_** tipped off opposing defenses which side it was going* by sending the man in motion opposite it. So he tipped off opposing Ds _AND_ sent blockers away *from* it.
      So fans invented this "mythical need" that Lamar never had to explain away why Roman was there. The Unanimous MVP "had problems" as a passer. This much was true.
      But they were all problems caused by his OC, 100% of 'em.

    • @JoshAllen17Goated
      @JoshAllen17Goated วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@fanboy50 I think Lamar overall is a fantastic player and person. But he just has a harder time sitting in the pocket and winning strictly from the pocket vs Mahomes, Allen, Goff, Burrow (which Burrow to me kinda relies heavily on unbelievable talent surrounding him). Lamar tends to lock onto targets more often than the other qbs mentioned, he cant read the defense to the levels of the others but hes really damn good. The biggest issue with him is when he has his great games, its awesome but he falls off a cliff then. He will have multiple bad to awful games in a row that are just disgusting. It always happens in the playoffs too. Hes just not clutch when the time matters. Regular or postseason, often he blows big leads or fails to make a comeback that you see mainly Allen and Mahomes make on what seems like a weekly basis. In the clutch situations rather than relying on the basics or what hes best at, Lamar ALWAYS locks onto targets to 1 person and just launches the damn ball like a rocket over their heads, he fumbles or throws a pick. Hes never won a game in the clutch ever. Hes never been good or even ok in the postseason. Thats why people have a tough time saying hes better than Mahomes or Allen. Because when it matters, your gonna choose Allen or Mahomes over anyone else because they have proven they can handle the pressure and perform.

      No, in the sense that the Chiefs feel a lot more like the clunkier Belichick-Brady years, where even when they started off a season looking flawed as hell, they'd improve over the course of the year and start putting things together reliably enough that the standing assumption until they prove otherwise is that the Chiefs will figure this stuff out by mid-December at latest.

    The thing the mainstream media gets wrong about the Packers (other than the Jordan Love characterizations that I find to be slightly inaccurate) is that we still have a bad run defense. Box score watchers will see how many rush yards and touchdowns we give up per game and conclude that we’re still the middling/bad run defense of the Joe Barry era. While a couple of players *cough* Quay Walker *cough* aren’t perfect in the run fit, the rushing production we give up (almost entirely to rbs) is often either incidental or by design.
    This perspective kind of requires you to ignore the week 1 Brasil game against the Eagles (a lot of my Packers takes require omitting that game 😅), but I genuinely think our run defense is top 5 in the league.

    Instead of keeping the team together and wasting years on some good players careers in a holding pattern, they should take their medicine for the Deshaun deal and make a move to rebuild when he's coming off the books. I would love for my Washington Commanders to fund their rebuild with a multiplayer mega trade so we can be legit SB contenders now, maximizing Jayden's rookie deal before we start losing pieces of our staff(Kliff)
    Cleveland Gets: 2025 1st, 2nd,& 3rd + 2026 2nd & 3rd + 2027 2nd. Commanders Get: Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward, JOK and Cleveland eats whatever cap they got room for over the next 2 years before they get a clean slate from Watson and them all at once.
    The Cap thing isn't super important because Washington has $120m+ in cap next year, but It would be nice to keep some room to add a few more quality pieces in Free Agency like DQ's boy Markquese Bell (or be able to pay Micah after we send Dal our 2026 1st for him)
    It's a Win/Win, because Cleveland is stuck unable to really improve the team the next two years and it's only a matter of time before the talent on the team gets fed up and forces their way out with toxicity at a cheaper price because Cleveland will have lost all leverage. The trade would give them 6 top 100 picks to help replace them with quality players on rookie deals to help the future QB when Deshaun comes off the books. It's kinda like a higher end version of what the Texans did with the 2 year holding pattern where they accumulated draft capital trading McKinney, Cunningham, Roby, Cobb and a bunch of other guys before trading Watson for high capital.

    Show me where anyone avoided hitting Mahomes on that play. Watch it again. I have about 20 times. He somehow got by Fred Warner, the next guy got blocked through Mahomes path by Hunt as Mahomes slowed down to let him by. He doesn't get flags unless he's out of bounds. This is a BS narrative. If players were so worried about penalties, they wouldn't hold, false start, face mask, line up offside, etc, etc. Does he flop? Yes. Not a fan of that, but it doesn't mean the hits didn't happen. They aren't pro soccer level by any means. He is extremely hard to catch and hit.

    We’ve gotten so far from what an actual MVP means it’s crazy. Put any other competent QB in there and the lions would be just as good. MVP is not who has the best stats it’s who is the most valuable player on their team compared to others(yall know that better than most) Goff is not the most valuable on his team. Lamar, Allen and mahomes are far more valuable and without them their teams would prob have 1-2 wins rn. You cannot say that about Goff. He’s in the same situation as Purdy was when everyone including yall said he should be mvp. I just don’t see how either one of those guys could be mvp when they haven’t shown they can’t do it without elite level talent all round them compared to Lamar, Allen and mahomes who’ve done it with their fair share of talent but also have had significantly less for some years now.

    Not to throw a wet blanket on your Watson analysis, but I would be very surprised if the Browns can get away with slow playing his injury or if he would be willing to accept playing the part of having "setbacks". That's just straight up insurance fraud and when your contract is fully guaranteed the team has no leverage to have you do them a solid for the cap by committing a crime and being liable to be party to a lawsuit. There are only a few brokers in this market and I would assume those policies are buttoned up with many contingencies for this sort of fuckery. I would be surprised if there aren't clauses that allow the insurance company to have physicians they hire conduct thorough examinations of a player prior to approving a claim. I'm sure the Browns will keep him inactive as long as they think they can get away with, but there is a great deal of achilles tears that have happened in the last few seasons and I don't think they have any shot of having him sidelined for all of next year when both Rodger and Cousins (who are both considerably older than Watson) were able to come back in less than a calendar year. I think the better plan for the Browns to commit blatant fraud would be to pay a practice squad guy to "accidentally" roll up on Watson during a full contact practice hoping to sprain an ankle or tear a knee. It would be a shitty thing to do, but if anyone "allegedly" deserves it, it's Watson.

    The media gets nothing wrong about the raiders because no one is talking about them. It's a dumpster fire that never goes out and only varies in how brightly it burns. Drafting has been awful, I don't remember the last legitimately good oc they had and the current qb situation has me debating if I'd rather jamarcus Russel or matt mcgloin would give them a better chance. And to top it off, whatever AP was bringing to this team last season seems to have worn off. They have been awful for 20 years, 12 head coaches in thst span but get don't the recognition because of the browns going full retard, or the lions 0-16.
    And before anyone talks about Carr he was like meeting a hit new girl who gave you hope, dating goes well until it gets to crunch time, you get in to bed to take things to the next level, and figure out she's got a dick and things aren't going any further

      For me I compare it to a tame/scared version of how Les Snead of the Rams tried to push his chips in trying to win it all backed by McVay's offense and a defense anchored by the number one defender in Aaron Donald. At some point the Rams had top tier help like Jalen Ramsey and Von Miller to round out their role players. I don't see that with the Bills where Allen still has to take over the game because the scheme/talent around him isn't up to par in the regular season. Then in the postseason its the same old story. Defense plays light boxes but don't have the bodies to be stout against the run and don't have the finishers to threaten rushing with 4. Offense has role guys but no mismatch monsters outside of Allen. Bills meet their worst matchups and their fans have to get drunk to drown another dud of a postseason run.
