2.5 hrs hurricane Sandy emergency responses

  • I actually had quite many business meetings in New York City, but hurricane Sandy messed that up - in some way good for me, so I had tons of emergency vehicles to film :)
Here's a 2.5 hours long compilation of emergency responses the days before, during and the days after hurricane Sandy. No matter whether FDNY, NYPD, PAPD, MTA Police, NGUS, USACE, USCG or whatsoever, here you see pretty much anything. Even emergency vehicles from other cities and states (like e.g. Superior from the Chicagoland area) were present with several vehicles.
Of course not every single emergency responses is a consequence of the hurricane (like e.g. Medical call at Macy's with the Ambulance and Engine 1), but I didn't sort them out since it's hard to determine whether it is or isn't linked to Sandy in many cases.
It will propably be the last video in 2012, enjoy it :)

well yeah from time to time they ask me what we do (as if that wasn't clear to see, holding up a camera ;), but at some depts some staff really showed us the middle finger, came towards us with the raised fist, insulted us and want to force us to deleate the video (luckily just some don't like us). Even though I know that it's all legal what I film, I try not to hold the camera directly onto the front seats and their faces.

On Long Island we had a lot of U.S. Forest Service trucks. They were sending teams of two trucks per neighborhood to cut up downed trees and branches. They were also trained in forest fire fighting so they backed up the power companies when they were removing trees and branches from downed wires. And great vid.

We visited New York for the first time that month and after sightseeing left on a flight out of JFK , with Hurricane Sandy striking NY that night . Problem for us was that we then had to fly over the top of the Hurricane which was a fun old time on the plane . Better than any rollercoaster . Thanks for posting , I can relate to these scenes occuring just after we left

14:40 It's nice to see an NYPD vehicle that actually says 'POLICE' on the side. It bothers me that NYPD has become a 'brand' and more important than displaying what service you're actually providing. LAPD has gone the same way.

Same reason that many major cities have Airport Police that aren't part of the city police and many rail systems have their own agencies (like the MTA Police) as do large ports (like the LA Port Police). PAPD performs all those functions for NYC in airports, rail and bus terminals.. Plus PAPD is also certified and licensed in NJ (like MTA Police are also commissioned in CT and the Metro-Transit Police in Washington are commissioned in VA, MD and DC) because their area crosses state lines.
