The season after the season where the Blazers made it to the WCF, should've been Dame's last season in Portland. If they couldn't repeat that success at his age, that was the biggest sign it was time to go.
He’s the reason they lose. He takes too many deep shots at not high enough of a percentage which causes his teams defense to be bottom 3rd of the league.
Honestly firing the coaching staff and getting anyone able to instil an identity should be enough. This isn't a talentless team. A decent coach would easily be able to get some wins surely. 😂
Why are ppl so obsessed with lillard. He a high volume shit efficency scorer that cant do anything else. Its the least winning player u can have on a team.
@@BIGGIECHEESE31somebody speaks for their intelligence when they make broad statements like this. It is on a spectrum; he is a winning player in the right context. In the wrong context, he is overextended and that leads to people like you making braindead comments. Bravo dickhead
@@BIGGIECHEESE31he has had great efficiency and is one of the most efficient players, everything you just said is a lie. Dame has top 3 on/off ball gravity at his position and he’s a great playmaker out of doubles teams/traps. You don’t know nothing
Why is doc rivers afforded so much grace and patience from every team that hires him? Does he have dirt on every nba owner or something? This shit is pathetic
There was a time where he would do the dirty work for the owners. One player forgot who had to hit some sort of stat to get his end of contract bonus and doc didn’t play him making him lose his bonus and in turn save money for the owners. No other coach likely does that
Native Portlander here - in this city we love Dame and he’ll always be a legend but so much of the talk in the town was he should leave for the reasons you stated. Everyone here wants to see him do well, whether in the Rose City or elsewhere ❤️
The bucks mostly suck cuz of coaching. Hiring Doc Rovers AND darvin Ham was pure incompetence by the front office. There's absolutely no reason why the Bucks cant abuse a two man game with those two. Its just ultra bad coaching.
If only Adrian Griffin didn’t get into a fight with Terry Stotts. Stotts was the man who knew how to best utilize Lillard because he was Lillard’s head coach for the majority of his career. That was in part why he was traded to the Bucks instead of the Heat.
There are many reasons other than coaching, Dame might be able to play off Giannis as a screener, but Dame simply has never been a good playmaker to enhance a force like Giannis, you can see that Dame always wants to score and only uses passing as a last resort if he can not score, He is more of an underseized SG than a PG and always was. Giannis simply does not really benefit from Dame being there.
They have no two man game because Giannis can’t screen. Always rolls too early that’s why khris was his best robin because he thrived off being a good iso scorer in the midrange
But the irony is if they never made that trade (which they couldn’t really NOT go for tbf,) it might never turn into such a mess. Jrue makes up like 80% of an NBA organisations collective IQ, so even a Ham or Doc couldn’t fail to get the best out of him. He’d be teaching them, if anything. And if they don’t sign Dame, the whole Adrian Griffiths thing resulting in Doc Rivers and the subsequent coaching staff doesn’t happen either. No matter who they got at head coach, with Jrue I still think they’d be a consistent, respectable playoff contender. Fate has just kind of pinned them down and had it’s nasty way with their whole dynasty, basically.
@@matthewvaughan8192I doubt that Jrue's presence would have prevented everything that has happened with the Bucks from happening. He would teach Doc and Ham? It's not his job to be the coach.
Jrue is playing as a role player on the Celtics now after being one of the worst offensive players in the league from 2021-2023. He’s a good player when he has no responsibility
Dame's mistake was thinking his front office would respect his wishes and send him to his preferred destination (Miami) . That was a horrendous summer of business
I actually agree with this take 1,000% he wanted to be selfish and be the man and take all the shots and glory and have ppl say he ain’t need to play with a big time all star to win and it backfired.
No, he needs to shoot more in fact. Dame is one of the best PnR ball handlers of all time and is apart of all the best lineups the bucks play and knows how to run an offense. What your suggesting makes no sense
🤣🤣you want him to be Jrue when he’s making close to $50 million, my god bruh he’s a scorer/playmaker/ great with his hands for steals/great free throw shooter, that’s what he is
Why do yall keep talking about his defense. He’s NEVER been a defender. He’s not becoming one at 34. Most superstars don’t defend. So why is that so harped on when it comes to dame? It’s mind boggling
@@SpaceJamCamBamcuz defense is one of his big weaknesses… some ppl or defenders will say he’s not that bad of a defender… but he is pretty trash for his career ngl
Lol what? Dominating doesn’t always equal winning. A player isn’t dominating if they drop 15 points and get the dub. Someone dropping 50 and 10 but losing is still dominating. Wilt dominated like never before, just because he wasn’t winning every year doesn’t mean he wasn’t dominating 😂
@@LegendOfKhaos12 Huh? Leading teams to winning and a lot of winning is true dominance. Not just putting up empty big numbers on a losing team. Wilt was dominant because of his physical dominance. Then Shaq took that title from him in the 2000s. But if Shaq had never been a dominant winner, nobody would call him the most dominant ever. It takes great physical dominance and winning dominance to be called the most dominant ever.
I think it ironic because the issue is that Lillard and giannis antetokounmpo both have some adjusting to do in terms of what their expected to be in the presence of one another. Ironically, he might have had the same issues in Miami if he went there in the first place. He's super comfortable with chucking
Funny thing is the super stacked Dubs have an eye on Giannis. Dame can go back to being the only star on a mediocre team and Curry can collect another ring.
@@chrishosey7535 Another 2-3 min of Steph on the court would bolster his numbers and team's impact. What Steph does without the ball is more impactful than Dame's entire game.
Didn't LeBron get KILLED for the last 15 years for "chasing greatness"? Y'all can't turn around and knock Dame for being "loyal" when that's what y'all CLAIMED y'all stood for.
Exactly! Was thinking the same thing, how are they crying now when he was getting praise for being loyal. I never understood it, I live in Portland and I used to tell the fans nobody will care about him being loyal unless he retires as a blazer, and the only people who will care are Portland fans. He be known as a loser his whole nba career but at least he was loyal! Smh lol
@@iforeverfly same thing for what Kevin Garnett said in the beginning also except he won a mvp, dpoy, and championship so it’s still different than dame.
its one thing to stay and move teams once but 3 or 4 times? is different not to mention when you call yourself the goat and get to choose which players get to be on your team.
Dame honestly already showed most of the problems that get revealed now that he is on a better team during his time in Portland. Dame is a great scorer, but that is basically where his talents end. Dame is basically an underseized SG playing PG that shows absolutely no effort or interest on defense. He is not really a good playmaker, which has been a known fact his entire career and it does not come as a surprise that the fit with giannis does not really work, they are both isolation scorers that can not play off each other effectively.
I disagree with him not being a good play maker. He is a really great passer and can make elite reads, he gets to the rim and doesn't turn it over that much either. His teams are usually always top #10 in offensive rating too. He definitely is a cone on defense though no cap
He didn’t get comfortable with losing. He valued loyalty. He gave a chance to the organization who gave him a Chance. Why isn’t that commanded by the new fan? It’s not championship or bum. He has a legacy in Portland. A top 2 player in their legacy. The point I will agree on is if he was gonna leave, he HAD to win cuz honestly if he was a blazer lifer and lost every year, he’d be way more respected then getting a ring at 35 as a 6th man. Dame got pressured by fans like you to leave, to leave to a team with uncertainty, a team dumb enough to hire doc rivers, dumb enough to trade Jrue, dumb enough to stick by KMid who sacrificed his body in 2021. The Blazers were rebuilding WITH Lillard there. The writing was on the wall. He should've went to the Heat, but Pat Riley doesnt believe in trading for stars. Pat was also pretty arrogant in thinking he could wait the Blazers out to give them little in return for Dame.
The Blazers were never going to just let Dame go to Miami without significant assets back. What they asked for would have put Miami where Portland is right now.
@@zekewilson8039 see on one hand I agree and on the other we're watching Tyler Herro dropping 25+ points per night so far this season. there wasn't a single trade we coulda reasonably made without Herro in the mix so...
"Pat Riley doesnt believe in trading for stars. Pat was also pretty arrogant in thinking he could wait the Blazers out to give them little in return for Dame". Miami were zeroing in on Dame for a year. Jimmy told Pat and the Heat to go get Dame. Dame wanted to be in Miami but Joe Cronin was in his feelings throughout the entire progress. Cronin thought he could get a big haul for a 34 yr old Lillard who has 3+ yrs left on his contract along with $50+ million each year. That wasn't happening. Multiple teams weren't going to give up their assets for that. It would've been different if Dame was 30 but the man turns 35 next year. Also, Dame's agent was calling other teams telling them Dame wasn't going to show up if he's traded anywhere outside of Miami. Miami tried to negotiate with Portland during Summer League. Portland wasn't trying to and they started playing games when they told Miami they wanted Jimmy or Bam back. Miami wasn't going to do that. Any person that thinks Miami doesn't have any assets is insane. Herro, Jovic, and Jaquez, along with an expiring Kyle Lowry contract isn't a trash offer. If Portland wanted more assets, they should've told Miami that. Miami was in contact with other teams to help them get the additional assets needed to get Dame if needed be. The problem was Portland wasn't telling Miami what they wanted specifically. Portland was always going to get Ayton whether Dame went to Miami or not. The only reason people were calling Miami's assets garbage is because of the Boston media. Kevin O'Conner said the package Miami offered for Dame was the worst trade offer in NBA history. The Boston media was terrified of Miami potentially getting Dame so they had to make it seem like Portland was getting little in return for Dame which they really weren't. They could've flipped Herro to a team like Utah who Danny Ainge loves btw. Jaquez and Jovic are nice pieces to have on a rebuilding roster. Lowry could've mentored Scoot if he stayed there and asked for a buyout later on. It's on Cronin for being in his feelings, Dame for caving instead of forcing his way there like Harden did with the Clippers, and his agent for telling other teams he wouldn't show up to training camp.
@@BlackAphro_ Tyler needs to do that for a full season and be relatively healthy this season. He always starts strong, but fizzles out a bit. Eh melo deffo did it for the money and theres no way he thought nyc was gonna get good enough to beat the heatles. But dame actually believed in portland. Esp after they got to the conference finals in 2019. If theyd be able to land an actual star (not a jeremi grant, not an aging melo barely holding onto his spot in the league) dame prolly wouldve stayed
Portland tried, The best they could do was bring in CJ, who was 20+ on his good seasons. Denver was an anomaly. The only thing you could say was that they didn't have good coaching, but they did try to build a team, as bad as the attempt was.
Small market teams be like that. They arent the most attractive locations for allstar/superstar level players to go. When stars have had the power to decide where theyre going where have they gone? East coast or West coast and basically nowhere in between. Outside of that theres kai going to the mavs and kd + beal going to the suns. Even when the Bucks won in 2021 their most notable trade/signing was Jrue Holiday. All other significant players on their roster were drafted or traded for before they were good.
Another factor that no one is discussing is that it takes a certain type of talent to be able to coexist next to other talent and flourish. They are called ceiling raisers. They can elevate a talented team to a championship/dynastic level team. Steph had the ability to do that/coexist next to Durant to make them unstoppable, which is more valuable than dominating on a losing team.
Way too much hate in this video. "Dame is ok being mediocre" is absolutely nasty. Definitely more nuance in this situation than that. He believed in Portland's ability to build around him for a time and was not just cashing checks. There is a difference between criticism and disrespect
Eh, I don't see a reason to put words in the man's mouth. Dame said he wanted to bring a championship to Portland but he couldn't quite get over the hump. I'll take him at his word on that, though. As far as Milwaukee goes, he had a bad first season with the Bucks, but 1) he didn't get a full preseason with the team, 2) he was going through a divorce, and 3) he was moved not just from Portland, but far from the West Coast where all of his family is. This year he's playing a lot better, but this league has gotten A LOT better
@carlsagan2607 I agree. I also think you have different types of stars. Dame is an Allen Iverson type. Great player, super exciting, super iconic. Probably never wins a chip though. And that's okay
I knew from the start the Giannis-Dame duo wouldn’t work. It’s just big names and that’s it. Milwaukee had a proper team when they won a chip back in 2021.
Yup. They were already the best offense. Theres only 48 minutes in the game. Their offense wasnt going to get any better with a aging Lilard and it didnt. They sacrificed their defense. This was common sense
It wasn't really a proper team. Jrue was the only perimeter defender, any guard or wing not guarded by him was cooking them. Lopez, Middleton and Holiday had some good offensive games, but for each good one there were two bad games. There was no good coaching and no depth. It was basically a carry job by Giannis and some good luck with a good matchup in the finals, as the Suns had no bigs to slow Giannis down.
@@BengaIaas to be fair. Middleton was a lot better back then. The bucks team was very good team but I honestly don’t know if they beat nuggets, clippers or lakers.

Those Portland teams were only "bad" near the very end, they made the Conference Finals and were a consistent playoff team in a tough West. The way I see it, those teams OVERACHIEVED because of Dame, so he deserves respect for that

he can do that but still be operating with limited expectations. media knew his teams were never talented enough and lillard looked like a good guy giving his full effort and saying he believes they have enough knowing internally they didn’t
Both things can be true. Obviously dame is going to play at 100% and try and help his team succeed, while also knowing that his team isn’t very good and he won’t get a lot of slack if he loses.
I laughed in 2017 when my bro was talking about loyalty... that's your job you should go where you have a chance of winning a championship. KD was smart ...he won two and dipped

You can’t blame Dame, KG and players like them for betting on themselves and trying to win through their tough situations, they believed in themselves and genuinely thought they where ceiling shattering talent which you need to be as great as they where, look at the Mavs with Dirk he did and it went his way
I hate this discourse. I miss when pro athletes had some pride. Stop tryna get everyone to dip out after building something somewhere. Not everyone is meant to win championships.
Its either, “Why don’t players stay with their drafted to team anymore?” or “Players are cowards for skipping the grind and going to situation where they’re more likely to win”. If Dame was on the warriors though, while he probably wouldn't be as good as Steph, he could of went down as a much better player too...
It's either you are a great player and join a good team to become greater, or you are like Jokic where you are just that good that you can turn a team of scrubs into a championship roster
idk if comfortable with checks is the real story here. he like playing somewhere that passed his vibe check and the people loved him, which can be just as damning to a career that should be about competing for the chip as often as possible
I’m not surprised. I always thought Dame didn’t seem to perform when it mattered. I remember in 2019 when the dubs lost KD and had other players injured Steph STILL whupped Dame. He’s just not that dude y’all 🤷🏽♂️. He’s ass on defense and makes even Steph look like a good defender, and he doesn’t seem to generate the off ball threat Steph can despite being an amazing shooter. @thedman05 You are conveniently leaving out how much of an accomplishment it was just for Dame to carry POR to the WCF in the first place. He probably just didn't have anything left. Even with KD out, GS was still GS, and they were way better than the team Dame was dragging around. Mind you, in that same span of years, Russell Westbrook was in the West with PG, and he could not even do so much as reach the second round. One of those years, it was literally Dame who bounced them out with an unforgettable finish that turned PG into a meme. Even Kawhi in the West with SA after their stars were washed never got SA farther than the WCF. Curry and GS were kicking everybody's arses. You really can't hold losing to them against anyone, let alone a guy who was playing with his next best player being a 0x All Star. Westbrook literally couldn't beat GS with KD beside him. What was Dame supposed to do other than get swept? LeBron had better teams and struggled with them before KD joined GS. Back then when all those stars were leaving their teams, the highest IQ decision would've been joining Dame in POR. If he could get them to the WCF alone, imagine what POR would've been doing if he had PG or Kawhi or LeBron, or KD at that time.
@ I remember seeing that series dude. It was GSW last hurrah as a super team, but let’s not pretend that series didn’t have Dame with some advantages. Boogie and KD were both out in that series and Dame couldn’t get a game on GSW. I mean I don’t discount what you said. I think it speaks to how dominant GSW was, but still. Portland didn’t even get a game on them, even while crippled. If dame is that dude he’s gotta get at least a game bro. At least ONE. This isn’t to say I think Damian Lillard isn’t an amazing player, because I think he is. But I agree with Swish. He missed his moment by being too content being a big fish in a little pond. @@thedman05why are you acting like nurkic wasn’t injured for the blazers too, and due to that they had to start enes kanter at the 5 who was one of the worst defensive bigs in the league which was a big reason for their loss
I found this to be a bit unfair for Dame. Traded to Milwaukee and some 40 games in (despite a record well above .500) they fire Adrian Griffin for Doc Rivers which we all agree is a downgrade. Already played half the season for a coach and then adjusting to another coach is a lot of work. I think this point should have been brought up in your video but in regards to your Portland take - I think you're right. Dame definitely did take too long to leave but despite how his playoff win percentage looks, I don't think it should be perceived that way. Making the playoffs as a lone star on a team is a pretty big feat IMO - something Anthony Davis (even tho is widely regarded as the better player) struggled to do. He only made the playoffs twice in 7 years with NO. If you ask me, that is actual "loser" status.
One thing I think you are right about is that Dame took too long to leave. However, there’s some things you need to keep in mind. 1) Top 75: Dame is a multiple time all nba and all star in his career. Kept an entire city relevant with his play and is a career 25 ppg scorer, this is a level of consistency a large majority of players don’t have. And yes, AD has a ring but I implore you to take a deeper look at that list, Dame is nowhere near the worst player. 2) Getting comfortable: I can see your point of view with this critique but Dame was a guy who wanted to win in Portland. If you ask the people in the city, he very much embraced them and wanted to make it work. It was real malpractice by the front office with some of the moves they made in trades and I agree dame shoulda left earlier but he was dedicated to making it work. 3) Partnership with Giannis: There’s a lot more to be said about Dame adjusting but you have to mention how the bucks need to adjust to him. Dame is one for the greatest and efficient PnR ball handlers of all time. He’s top 3 in on/off ball gravity every year alongside Steph/luka for guards which opens up the floor for his teammates, and he’s a very good playmaker when scanning the floor. Not as good as passers like trae or harden, but he creates advantages out of double teams/traps. Giannis is a poor screen setter and it’s not his fault cuz Alot of his buckets are unassisted, but it stifled the PnR partnership. The bucks essentially traded for a player they haven’t tried to maximise in the same way. Dame should also be screening more for giannis and could be doing more himself but Giannis can be a bit tunnel vision at times and tries to bulldoze opponents because he’s one of the greatest rim scorers of all time. Setting more high screens at halfocurt will allow the bucks to play 4 on 3 essentially and continue to maximise giannis (who had his best statistical season next to lillard last season). Roster construction: This is the biggest problem in Milwaukee that is bigger than the coaching issue. Jon Horst has shown a failure in making the necessary personnel moves around giannis for years now. Yes he made the dame swing which was understandable ofc but the bucks are horrible at drafting. Now they have an old injury laden team around giannis that is leaving him to over exert himself, leading to him missing the playoffs two years in a row. Horst has shown an inability to surround dame and giannis with the requisite pieces to compete on both sides of the ball.
Dame has never been that guy to me. How are you going to have a chance with KD going down and then proceed to get torched by Curry for four games straight in the second-half?
So, the Blazers should have won that series simply because Durant was not available? Right, because the Warriors totally did not have years of high-level playoff experience to fall back on. They absolutely did not prove in the series prior against the Rockets that they did not need Durant to win. With or without Durant, the Blazers were going to lose either way. Could they have won 1 or 2 games? Sure, they could have. But I did not see them beating the Warriors either way.

With all due respect I have to disagree. Dame wanted Miami, he never wants to be in Milwaukee and he and Giannis got stuck with bad suporting cast and bad coaches. He's doing what he knows, getting buckets and good shooter and being bad defensevely. I think the team is a bad fit for he and Giannis

Lived in Oregon all of Lillards career and moved back to my home state of Wisconsin a year before the trade. When I saw the Bucks got him I checked to make sure they didn't give up Jrue as Lillard is not a good defender. I loved watching him and McCollum for excitement but they never had a chance with 2 elite offense, but below averaged defenders. Jrue being the best on ball defender in the league would have worked and been complimentary. All the Bucks did was give away their elite defense, grit and rebounding advantage(over almost every team in the league) and went all in for offense only and unfortunately aging Lillard. Such a dumb trade wish he could have went to Heat like he wanted and that would have been better fit and Bucks would not have nuked their present and also future giving away draft picks. Now Giannis will leave too probably
The interview with Dame says it all. Hes not being himself. Hes trying to "fit in". But buddy is a superstar and needs to just play and the rest will fall into place.
idk about the donovan mitchell example. He didnt want to leave or asked for a trade, the team traded him. And at the time the cavs werent exactly a team that anybody saw becoming a top 5 one in the coming decade so its not like he went to a team that had a certain or promising future.
I honestly think it’s deeper than his team makeup and chemistry. It more so revolves around his play style. Similar to Westbrook his gravity on the court doesn’t equate to the greater good of the team. Demanding the ball too much and almost takes away from others successes.
The problem with this logic is using this argument, you can’t knock LeBron or KD for 2010/2017. Because all they did is saw the writing on the wall quickly and decided to do what Dame should have done before it was too late
I honestly really believe the trailblazers could win with dame if they kept trying to build around him but the timing was off and they didn’t make the best moves. When the new GM took over he had other plans. It would be amazing for Dame to win in Portland but I just wish somehow he gets a chip somewhere before his time is up. I also believe he had his heart in Portland that’s ultimately where he wanted to win and you can’t fault him for that, getting traded I believe took some of that heart away from him. I don’t sense the same motivation.
A coaching/system change and 2 trades could probably fix this team. They really aren't a bad team, they're just playing bad basketball, not playing basketball badly.
I think the coaching is the biggest issue since Dame came to Bucks. From the quitting of Terry Stots last year, who could've integrated Dame nicely to the Bucks- and then having Rivers & Ham messing all hell up in bucks, it falls mostly on coaching. They need to get dame to be a bit more hands on (deflections & steals) on defense since he can't stay in front of speedy guards, having a speedy physical guard to be the 2 to help dame & getting Giannis to screen & play Shaq like role (Kobe cook with shots, Shaq clean up misses & be a paint beast) will help the offense and defense of Bucks to be better
there are more to basketball than just scoring. sacrificing shots, making teammates better and defensive effort are intagibles that makes for a winning culture. there were superstars in the past who were not blessed with a good roster but still found a way to have success in the playoffs. jason kidd with the nets had mediocre roster who was able to beat more talented teams in the east like pacers with reggie miller, artest, jermaine o'neal or pistons with ben wallace, billups, hamilton and etc. east were inferior to the west but carrying that lottery team to the finals twice was so impressive. they were also the only team who were able to really challenge the 04 champions detroit pistons. kidd also been to the playoffs like 17 straight times which says a lot. i really believe that giving more oppurtunites for teammates be involve in the offense is very important to making them better and that putting effort in defense shows how commited you are to winning. Players follow that kind of player/leader. MJ did these things with the bulls and so did steph curry. they became off ball threaths and let their teammates do the playmaking.
He didn’t get comfortable with losing. He valued loyalty. He gave a chance to the organization who gave him a Chance. Why isn’t that commanded by the new fan? It’s not championship or bum. Dame got pressured by fans like you to leave, to leave to a team with uncertainty, a team dumb enough to hire doc rivers, dumb enough to trade Jrue, dumb enough to stick by KMid who sacrificed his body in 2021. Get of Dame tip , rare Swishout L.
Thank you, Swish. I have been saying this for a while. I like Dame, but him being in Milwaukee and struggling is really because of his own delusion of being an alpha on a title team. He played the home town hero role well, it was the best situation for him. However, he always believed he could have Curry's success if given more support. But that was never the actual truth. He has never been on Curry's level in terms of impact on his team. I always noticed Dame fan boys believed he could be a real championship alpha, but never accounted for his flaws as a player. All Dame does is shoot, and if that deep three isn't falling, he's utterly useless. He's actually a big negative when his shot isn't falling. His playmaking for others is limited, and his defense has to be amongst the all-time worse perimeter defenders. He's a complete negative if he isn't streaky hot. He is was a really good scorer like a Melo, but they don't impact their teams positively in any other area. It's why their teams are typically 1st round n out or even can miss the playoffs. Dame loved that Portland messiah complex he had. He loved for his Blazers fans to want him. However, he was never That Guy in terms of winning. I like Dame, but the dude suffers from delusion. I think he's now realizing his limitations in his impact on winning. He has a legit team around him, yet can't play with a bonafide superstar. Dame has never been a true superstar.
I respect Dame more then guys like Embid. Win lose or draw Dame is showing up. I never taught Dame was as good as Jrue holiday because Jrue awareness on defense is next level and Jrue is the stronger faster athlete. I also never taught Dame was top 75 because so many players accomplished more then Dame. I dont think Dame would of been in my top 100 tbh. No rings, mvp, scoring titles, dpoys, defensive teams or any accolades. I think if the nba counted totals for a season and gave an award Dame would win a few awards but Dame impact wasnt as high as the top players. Dame made up for not having as big of an impact by showing up. Dame played multiple 82 game seasons and help win multiple playoff games but against the best defenders like Jrue, Draymond, Andre Igodola, Anthony Davis & Kawhi he struggled. Basically the league overrated Dame and the Bucks spent to much on the hype so the try to fix it by getting rid of the ppl that were doing a good job.
The season after the season where the Blazers made it to the WCF, should've been Dame's last season in Portland. If they couldn't repeat that success at his age, that was the biggest sign it was time to go.
Going against the 2019 Warriors as well was their best chance. But their coach decided not to cover Curry and sag off him.

Jrue is thanking god that he left that mess behind 😊

Nah biggest loser that performs is Embiid bro. Only MVP to never make it out the 2nd round and has has great players around him, but unlike Dame doesn't perform when it matters. Dame was on a much worse team and still has more playoff success than Embiid. But while Dame can put up numbers, and show up in big games/ when it matters, to be completely honest while he is a great player, he is not like Jokic who might just be the best player we ever seen and can take 0 all stars, the worst team in the league and steamroll super teams, legends and win the chip, from literally nothing, but he can get them pretty far.
He’s heliocentric but not efficient enough offensively for that to make up for the defensive gaps he causes
Had he stayed, it would have been fine, had he left, he’s just unlucky he ended up on a team he didn’t want to play with first of all, for a team that was so unlucky with injuries, coaches change and bum roster. Get of Dame tip , rare Swishout L.
@thedman05
You are conveniently leaving out how much of an accomplishment it was just for Dame to carry POR to the WCF in the first place.
He had the talent to win but it still takes time to figure out how, and honestly he’s too old to be barely figuring it out rn. It’s sad tbh. I actually would’ve liked to see dame win one
@@thedman05why are you acting like nurkic wasn’t injured for the blazers too, and due to that they had to start enes kanter at the 5 who was one of the worst defensive bigs in the league which was a big reason for their loss
Why would anyone hire Doc over and over and over again expecting him to be a good coach? Some of these GM’s are just stealing money at this point
This just tells me Dame is Russell Westbrook with sympathy
Woah
@@JaKingScomezwouldn’t Carmelo be a better comp? Scorer. But not a defender?
Westbrick gets more sympathy than anybody lol he’s been sorry for years and you guys always cope with “they aren’t using him right” lol🤡

@@1Joseph25 Way better defender, and more of a dog. But he's a NBA 1st-team stat-padder...
I can't help but just feel bad for him.
FACTS
Fr
Dame to Miami would of been a good fit if wasnt for that petty gm
So you think Cronin should have just given and allowed himself to be short changed?
@@PhatooineCronin and Lillard have beef. There’s a reason why holiday went to Boston.
@@Phatooine He literally got short changed lol
The bubble year he was trying to act like he was going to carry Portland to a chip but now he acts like he doesn’t know how to win.
Dame has never been that guy to me. How are you going to have a chance with KD going down and then proceed to get torched by Curry for four games straight in the second-half?
Curry has dray and klay. Who did dame have?
So, the Blazers should have won that series simply because Durant was not available? Right, because the Warriors totally did not have years of high-level playoff experience to fall back on. They absolutely did not prove in the series prior against the Rockets that they did not need Durant to win. With or without Durant, the Blazers were going to lose either way. Could they have won 1 or 2 games? Sure, they could have. But I did not see them beating the Warriors either way.
@@ItsmeyaboijdpI don’t like curry but he cooked dame, average damn near 34 points while dame averaged 22 along with Cj and they had meyers Leonard when he was good. No excuses
@@Itsmeyaboijdp you think Dame is gonna win with Dray and Klay? Doubt it. He doesn't have the same off-ball ability as Curry does.
@@ItsmeyaboijdpDame may not have had similar support, but he did have good support during that series. The Blazers had control of 3 of those 4 games at least, and they lost all of them. Dame was bad for a lot of that series while receiving adequate help at times.
That 2021 playoff game against where Dane scored 50 and lost should’ve been the final straw to leave.
7:00 "Too talented while playing Two tens by paak and cordae???" Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw I see you swish!!
Could dame be one of these players that "dont really care about the game" and just enjoying the ride
Dame wanted Miami, and it still wouldn't have worked. Let's stop giving excuses for Dame not being able to gel and be effective with other teammates. Doing what he knows has proven to be not winning basketball.
@remnant8898 we cant say that, we cant have opinion in things that never happened. Miami has other team staff, could help him or not. We never know
@@PedroHenrique-cw1tc Yeah, we can say that. Dude is in Milwaukee with a top 5 player in the league and isn't making it happen. If he would have went to Miami, he'd still be a volume shooter with absolutely no defensive awareness.
@@remnant8898That's referring to Dame specifically, not the Miami Heat team. But in Miami, he would be playing in a different system with much different players and a coach who makes adjustments and is known to get the best out of his players, which Doc is not. You can not use his performance with the Bucks to claim that he would also struggle in Miami.
@@remnant8898 being a bad defender on miami wouldnt be as bad though. Could always hide him on defense and have jrich or butler guard his man

he dont play defense bro
Imagine doing your job as an athlete and being criticized for doing your job well
The interview with Dame says it all. Hes not being himself. Hes trying to "fit in". But buddy is a superstar and needs to just play and the rest will fall into place.
idk about the donovan mitchell example. He didnt want to leave or asked for a trade, the team traded him. And at the time the cavs werent exactly a team that anybody saw becoming a top 5 one in the coming decade so its not like he went to a team that had a certain or promising future.
this is SPOT ON
There are players who ball out and play outstanding, and then there are players who play winning basketball. Yes, there is a difference.
Dame is getting the karma for getting into the NBA best 75 😂
Different story if he went to Miami, not that Dame could do something about it but WHAT IF.
there are more to basketball than just scoring. sacrificing shots, making teammates better and defensive effort are intagibles that makes for a winning culture. there were superstars in the past who were not blessed with a good roster but still found a way to have success in the playoffs.
jason kidd with the nets had mediocre roster who was able to beat more talented teams in the east like pacers with reggie miller, artest, jermaine o'neal or pistons with ben wallace, billups, hamilton and etc. east were inferior to the west but carrying that lottery team to the finals twice was so impressive. they were also the only team who were able to really challenge the 04 champions detroit pistons. kidd also been to the playoffs like 17 straight times which says a lot.
i really believe that giving more oppurtunites for teammates be involve in the offense is very important to making them better and that putting effort in defense shows how commited you are to winning. Players follow that kind of player/leader. MJ did these things with the bulls and so did steph curry. they became off ball threaths and let their teammates do the playmaking.
Yet there probably one coach away from being a playoff team

Excellent video
