Why direction has 2 degrees of freedom. By direction, I understand the direction of motion of the neutron. In my understanding it should be 3. Can someone please explain!
Think of the direction as a unit vector in spherical coordinates. It is enough to know 2 angles, theta and phi, to define the direction of the unit vector.
