I hate to admit this but my wife and I each bought a pair of Bomber skis thinking that they'd be amazing and they actually were super disappointing and did not ski well at all. They are now mounted to my living room wall as art and we've both moved on to better skis. Lesson learned.

They really have tailored the advertisements of these skis for boomers! Having an older ski celebrity from the Olympics who is constantly name dropped? Check. Extremely high, borderline ridiculous price point to make those who are gullible and like to buy luxury with their savings think they are getting an amazing ski? Check. Less than meaningless nostalgia nod at 35:33: “you can tell that they manufactured these skis the old style way”? Absolutely beautiful little gem of a manipulative marketing strategy. And the best part is, the old boomers and Jerry’s who buy the skis will be compelled to think they are amazing and advertise them because they will want to think it was worth it to have spent so much money. And they probably don’t have many modern skis to compare them to side by side, as these are all wealthy but casual skiers who want to represent luxury and haven’t done enough research. The cherry on top is that these skis are almost impossible to find demos for good reason, as the ski company knows it is selling to ignorant people the idea of luxury and testing these skis out against other far more affordable options would immediately reveal how poorly they actually perform.

Wow great point, I didn't even think of that, but it's true, it's a weird version of the sunk cost fallacy.

I had a pair in my hand, today, marked down to about $1,000 including a stupidly complicated Vist plate. Had my pick of the Pro Carve, the SL Racing, some model just tagged as Bomber Black, and a Pro Carve with some ugly stick figure artwork for an extra $300. I thought maybe with that big discount they’d be ok, and then I saw this vid and put them back. I guess they’d be back to a 4/10 rating with the discount but that still doesn’t sound great.
Bode seems to be the ultimate grifter. He leaves Bomber after acting like he’s all in and goes to a freeride ski maker?!? WTF? I think he’s moved twice since then, too. His endorsement should be worth less than shit after this. He almost cost me a thousand, if I hadn’t come upon your video and did some more research into Bode’s involvement with ski companies. Great skier but sounds like a real db.

Glad the video was helpful! Bomber has transformed in a very weird way these past 12 years. Hopefully you find something else you like, or at least get a chance to demo Bomber if you're really set on them, but my personal experience wasn't great with them, and I don't recommend them to any of my personal friends. Thanks for watching, and if you need skis, keep your eyes open because there are some really amazing deals this time of year!

I’ve tried lots of small ski company models, mostly in Switzerland, and the ones I liked best were from guys that loved the sport and were former Schreiners (cabinet makers). I’ve skied for decades, usually average about 50 days per season but couldn’t tell you the technical reasons I like a ski, but I know what I like. The best ones I’ve tried are RTC from Brig and Radical from Zürich. Expensive but not made for the glamour set. There are so many little Swiss brands beyond Stöckli, which is just a regular brand in Switzerland. Besides Stöckli, RTC, and Radical, there is AK, Mach, Fjell, Anavon, Zai, Jacomet, Kessler, Vampire, Swiss Massiv, swissfivestar, Timbaer, Städeli, eXOnde, Core, Molitor, and others. Most Swiss are very loyal to Stöckli.

Oof, i feel those lift ticket prices brother. if your tryna ski out in the Lake Tahoe Area, almost everything has become heavily overpriced and tourist-y. if you want a cheap day pass, donner ski ranch still has cheap day passes during tues-thursday for like 60 bucks, its what a lot of the locals do. Sugarbowl and Mt Rose aint too bad but after the level of inflation we saw this year, its still overpriced IMO. Up until a few years ago Alpine meadows was also cheap, but they just proper combined with squaw valley into "Palisades Tahoe"
lmao i havent heard people use the "gaper/jerry" terminology in a hot minute
also, id love to see a vid on those Nordica enforcers you were talking about. ive been close to pulling the trigger on a pair for a while now, but im a real big dude and cant find demo's that are my size. I worked up at Sugarbowl for a season as a instructor, and my boss had just become the K2 rep so he was selling his old pair that was just a few inches too short for me. I still borrowed them for a day and thought they were a hoot. they were 174's, but im 6'4 and they were just too way too short for me to really lean into comfortably on anything that wasnt groomed so I had to pass. One day when im not in my twenties and actually have disposable income, I'd love to swoop a pair. Those things are sweet
At this price point, i want to point and laugh and recommend a pair of Fischer's for like 350. The fact they don't even include bindings makes me want to throw up, like WTF. If I have clients who ask me about purchasing new equipment, i first recommend getting used stuff because its way cheaper unless they are super serious about skiing, and then ill say the 400-600 dollar price range is what I recommend to my clients who want to buy new quality equipment. Its expensive, but its a great budget range for nice ski's that'll last a long time. I found it hilarious when you said "youd save that money on lessons" because the first thing we'd say is dont buy this kind of crap if asked
Calling it an old ski is basically calling it a pair of 2x4's strapped to your feet LMAO. but I'd just buy a pair of cheap all mountains, even if it compromises your groomed runs, you can at least just go everywhere and have a good time. And all mountain ski's have gotten so good lately that if step up the price even just a tad into that 400 dollar+ range, you start to unlock that turn radius back you initially sacrificed
its rare i can watch a full 48 minute vid and actually feel engaged the whole time, especially when it's just a dude talking to a camera, great vid!

Thanks So much! This is nicest comment I've ever gotten. Yes, I wasn't a big fan of the Nordica Enforcers myself as a pretty big guy (6'1") but there's no harm in demoing some if you get the chance. I reviewed them here:
      th-cam.com/video/2saaleNUQj4/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=RicketySkiReviews
I love the Atomics and Salomon's, but your mileage may vary. Here are my skis of the year:
      th-cam.com/video/lHq9KLNouTQ/w-d-xo.html
I've been a "Ski Swap and FB Marketplace shopper" myself for the past 10 years, but lately people want way too much for their used stuff, and I've been able to find good deals this time of year on last years top sheets (but this years skis) to the point where buying new was cheaper than used.
But as I've always learned, being patient you can always find a good value! Cheers and thanks for subscribing!

I can't knock Johnny as a skier, but he sounds like a surfer/stoner talking vaguely and imprecisely about ski tech here. I don't know if it's just the way he is, but it rubs me the wrong way when people who really should know what they are talking about talk fast and loose about technology. It makes it sound like he doesn't really understand, or that he's trying too hard to seem super casual, or that it just isn't important for him to be accurate. Is this the way JM is in real life, or is this just his media persona when he's pitching/selling something?
Maybe this is an EC vs WC thing?>
I don't mind it as much when he's narrating the Warren Miller films, but he's way too 'Bro' here for me.

He's a good skier! I think the bigger issue is that he works for Peter Glenn and their objective is selling, and I think he's limited on what he can say, so the final product turns out pretty weird.

This review should be titled: "Ski review by a guy who can't bend a Bomber ski enough to wake it up."
Bomber skis are for going really fast. Most of the group marketed to in this luxury segment can't properly use the ski, but those who can love them.
