Crazy I’m doing research and the best instructional video is from 4 years ago lmao man I hope you all are doing okay this really helped me with my project research progress
I appreciate this. Love your ingenuity and it gave me ideas for improving on it. BTW, a tip: If you have the 50/50 epoxy/hardener? Mix smaller batches. Then, after you mixed equal parts, mix in about 50% of denatured alcohol and keep mixing until the cloudiness goes away. Your mix becomes more runny but there’s many upsides. Run the first coat kinda heavy. The wood will absorb it and turn rock hard when it dries. The denatured alcohol removes all moisture from the epoxy (which is the source of the air bubbles) so no need to torch it. Also it gives you longer to apply the product. In the end you apply more but thinner coats with better results and can use less epoxy.
I haven had any problems. the Cup Holders I use are 2 1/2 in in diameter and they have 1 in in dept I've done extensive testing with multiple cups from Starbucks to McDonald's anywhere between 1 to 1 1/2 inches is fine in depth no more than 2 in. If you use a wider diameter cup holder holder then you might need more height but you run the risk of your table looking odd
Sure I thought I said it in the video. you need wood it can be which ever grain you need I used Burch Wood with a Burl Wood laminate, the Burch wood I purchased from Home Depot but other options are MDF and Particle Board, as for the laminate you can use Woodgrain 3M Vinyl as well, next you need 2 part apoxy Glaze available at Home Depot, then Some Cup Holders from Ebay 2.5 in (I sell some too). the Towers I made from toilet paper roll holders from Home Depot or Dollar Tree, you'll need some Allen Nut inserts and bolts from Home Depot or Ebay, some Corner Braces from Home Depot and last thing 3/4 Chrome Car Side Molding from Auto Zone. I know you did the stain and it wasnt correct so you just sprayed it with more color but in my position I dont have a spray gun but what color would you say to use to be closer if you did this again?
I would suggest instead of Staining the wood to use particle board which is cheaper than thew Birch wood and Burlwood laminate that I used and just Vinyl Wrap the particle board in a Burlwood pattern
