      I am an electrician and for the 10 minutes it will take you for peace of mind pop your breaker panel front cover off and gun the breaker screws. They can loosen over time and this will tell you if you have to tighten them. Since you have to tool check the shop and house its a great tool.

      "You one...ugly....maddafakah" "Git to tha choppahhh!!!" Does the camera make the "zrowmff" sound when focusing like Predator? If not then then I want my money back. Stay gold.

    Flir makes one for the iPhone 5. 300 bucks and a bigger display. The camera aperture is a bit smaller and not as ergonomic as the one demoed here. But still good for entry level.

    Another possible dual function of this tool would be to find air leaks in your house perhaps? Ie losing heat

    I would carry that around and when one of the kids starts complaining about feeling ill I can whip it out and use Predator vision to check.
    That sounded way cooler in my head... I'm going to go take a nap now in shame.

      When I was in elementary school, (in the 70's) they taught us the metric system because they said that we would be switching to it. What happened? Does anybody know? I have all of this knowledge that I have been waiting 40 years to use!

    • @bavarianmonkey8326

      Acutecareems USA did it the "american" way, so everybody outside the US laughs about those funny units like inch, foot, yard, Fahrenheit, ounces and all that :/

    • @gglovato
      @gglovato 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, that's why change should be done from the people with exposure like Eric which does videos, educators, TV, etc.

    • @TheCuriousNoob
      @TheCuriousNoob 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Acutecareems Yup USA, Liberia, and Myanmar are the only ones who haven't switched... we will probably be forced to switch over by manufacturers as we lose more and more of our political/industrial dominance that we enjoyed since WW2.
      Super easy to use metric... none of this 12 inches in a ft, 5280ft per mile, argh! I'm going to take a nap and throw a fit in my dreams.

    Is there any reason why you chose the TG165 as apposed to the TG167 which has a narrower viewing angle. 25 by 38 degrees (TG167) as opposed to 35 by 19 degrees (TG165)?????

    What about sensing human temperature? How efficient is it, and upto what distance can we read the temp?
    Also, can the lasers be turned off?
    Would be very practical to use this device to detect who might have fever.
    Can you pease let me know asap
    Thanks and cheers

      @Blazer02LS 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep.

    • @kg4boj
      @kg4boj 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, you can only see solid material temperatures with this. To see gasses you need a special $50,000 gas visualizer thermal camera which looks at a much smaller part of the IR band than these cameras and lenses are capable of.

    • @Blazer02LS
      @Blazer02LS 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually you can see heat leakage because of it's effect on the materials around the leak. If you are looking at the door frame/window frame you can spot the areas where heat is escaping by the change in relative temperature. As you get closer to the leak the temperature of the outer layer of material will rise. So a big leak looks like the images he showed of the vents with the heat on.

  • @LMacNeill
    @LMacNeill 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was thinking about wheel bearings the whole time -- then you mentioned them at the very end. :-) Very often, before you can hear a bad wheel bearing, they'll start to get hotter than normal -- this would be an excellent tool for that. For any bearing, really, as long as you had a normal one to compare it with.
    Neat tool! A bit out of *my* price-range, but I'm just a DIY guy. A real technician could easily justify the cost, I'm sure.

    • @White03T4RV82WD
      @White03T4RV82WD 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not only wheel bearings but break calipers as well. That's actually how I found mine, going on a drive and coming back and feeling around the rim. Pass side was a heck of a lot hotter than the driver side, replaced the caliper and I was good to go! Didn't even take off the wheel to see if that was the problem, but wheel bearings are a bit harder to get to or feel for temp haha.

    • @francistheodorecatte
      @francistheodorecatte 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I found a bad wheel bearing just by using a normal infrared non-contact thermometer. Three bearing caps were ~95-125F after driving for a while, one was 230F.

  • @aljaz55
    @aljaz55 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is one small but painful detail Eric forgot to mention - you CAN'T measure the temperature of the SHINY METAL. See the part with exhaust. Rusty tube is deadly hot but muffler seems to be cold, but in fact it's just a mirror so you see the ambient not the muffler itself. Keep this in mind also when using cheap IR thermometers. On metals you can easily make a 100 *C or F mistake in + or in -. Take care!

    I thought you did tool reviews on ETCG1 channel only?

  • @murmaider2
    @murmaider2 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The thing about this camera thats sorta lame is that it doesn't take temperature readings from the actual imaging sensor. It still uses the same laser sensors that a cheap laser thermometer uses. The expensive FLIRs actually take the readings from the image you're seeing. Its far more accurate.

    • @gglovato
      @gglovato 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      yeah but the "good" FLIR E you need to add a "1" or "2" to the front of the pricetag :D, eevblog did an awesome review on both. The expensive flir also has a "normal" camera for overlay and handles emissivity much better than this one

      ***** I have a Seek Thermal and although it is a nice price range, the colors are a wash (everything looks warm). The Flir in this video has way better color definition between what's hot and what's not. I might still save up for one of these puppies!

    This isn't an actual 'thermal camera' rather just a thermal sensor. Just FYI, but it's useful nevertheless, great for someone with a budget

    • @yongsua1989
      @yongsua1989 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you define "thermal camera"? Then why are optics used in these budget "thermal sensors"? Why they need germanium lens or zinc selenide lens to "see" like normal visible camera? It doesn't make sense not to call them "thermal camera" since they work by optics and sensors just like a normal visible camera!!!

      Oh but yes it does. Lean mix due to a tight or burnt valve, wheel bearing, overload of amps on a circuit, sticking caliper slide pins or piston, clogged radiator. You name it. This tool is a time saver, which turns into a money maker. I use a thermal image device every day in auto repair, and it has made my job so much faster and easier. This allows me to get more diag and repair out the door, and in turn, my bank account for retirement gets fatter.
