Tom Moore: Military Guard Of Honour As Army Veteran Completes 100-Lap Challenge | Forces TV

  • Army veteran Captain Tom Moore has completed 100 laps of his garden in Bedfordshire, having raised millions of pounds for NHS workers. After finishing a century of laps, completed with a guard of honour from the 1st Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment, the 99-year-old said he felt "fine" and that he was glad to be “surrounded by the right sort of people". Mr Moore says he will continue walking for as long as people continue donating. (And yes, the total Tom has raised has increased since this piece was filmed!).

      The video doesn't make it clear, but what he is doing isn't for The NHS. It's for NHS Charities which raises money to pay for extra amenities for NHS staff. It also pays for things like tablets to help patients in isolation stay in touch with their families.

      @troll oracle Very true. So many people seem to spend their time looking for things to be offended by, so are too busy and up themselves to actually do something that makes a difference. Captain Tom puts people like that to shame, and rightly so. He doesn't have time to be bothered by silly things, or get stressed by being called by the wrong prefix. If that happened I'm sure a nice cup of tea would sort everything out, not a year in therapy. A true hero.

      In 1950, the NHS spent an estimated £460 million. For 2020 alone the Government was estimated to spend around £158.4 billion based on previous trends. God alone knows what it is costing us now. I greatly value the NHS and everyone who works/volunteers for it, but it is simply unsustainable and it annoys me when I see people constantly wanting more out of it.

    The fact that the NHS isn't a charity doesn't seem to bother anvbody!? Why are we raising money for the NHS? Shouldn't the government be doing that (with our taxes)? Don't get me wrong, what this vet did and what the nhs does is amazing but isn't it weird that we are raising and donating money for our National Health Service???

    • @mscott3918
      @mscott3918 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He isn't raising it for The NHS. It's for a number of charities that help support it. They provide extra comforts and amenities for the staff. It also does things like provide tablets for patients in isolation who can't see their families. I don't think that has been made very clear.

      Like u say son we pay taxes. But in a time of crisis obviously there's more money equipment needed for the NHS care home heroes. When u watch something like this from a war hero at 99 nearly 100! You should be posting nothing but thanks and respect 🇬🇧 not negativity!
