There is no "private property" in America. If you actually pay attention to what's been described as "owning" something in the states it's usually just a very long lease.
The fact that US allows water to be owned by private entities is insane. How is this shit legal. In Poland all water in rivers, all dams and all lakes are controlled by government. Privately you can own only pond, pool, well and collect rain water that falls on your land.
@@christianjones1834 Short answer is: yes. For longer answer it is important to know what I mean by word "lake" because it can have slightly different definitions in different languages. Word "lake" itself doesn't have law definition in Poland but law distinguishes bodies of water that are connected to rivers from the ones that are still water. Here I'm talking about the former. So you can own the land AROUND the lake but you cannot buy the lake itself. Also there are no singular land lots that cover whole lake all around. Land lots in Poland are very very small compare to US. You would have to buy every single one to claim that you own whole land around the lake. But even then you CANNOT block public access to the lake. You have to leave 1,5m between your fence and the lake and anyone can freely walk on that slim passage without having to ask for permission. Technically that 1,5m passage is still your land but you cannot block access to it.

@@Shade_Tree_Mechanic as far as hunting goes it depends on what animal, the time of year and what kind of land you own. We agreed to this and it was baked into the price. Well worth it as I got to grow up in a garden of Eden. Deer often walked through, no license would have allowed for hunting them there. Animals don't get birthed on your land then live there in isolation, so if your killing tons of deer or elk as they pass through your land it's a bit unfair to everyone else and also poses an issue to the animals population. The Resnicks’ control over water in California is a reflection of the state's broader struggles with water management and the power dynamics in its agricultural industry. Their business empire and influence over water resources have sparked debates about water rights, sustainability, and the role of private interests in managing public resources, especially in a state that frequently faces droughts and water scarcity.
They own about 1% of the states water supply and the reactions here in the comments section are why I haze Zero respect for the supposed intelligence of my fellow humans.
@@wolfereignowns1154 While it may be true that the Resnicks only 'own' a small percentage of California's water in terms of total water rights, their control over water resources-especially through mechanisms like the Kern Water Bank-gives them disproportionate influence over water distribution in key agricultural regions. Their ownership of vast agricultural lands in the Central Valley, combined with their access to and control over stored water, means they can significantly affect how water is allocated and used, even if their actual 'ownership' seems minimal in terms of total statewide water resources. Their ability to secure water for large-scale farming operations during droughts amplifies their impact on the state's water supply and contributes to ongoing debates about equitable water distribution.
@@Byarger84 California is not in a drought when we receive less water than what the number of people require. Not to mention the number of water preservation projects the state forces on its citizens have a far greater impact on the water supply. All you have here is the fools of the internet pretending they understand why a state that gets low average rainfall lacks the water needed for their large scale farming and overpopulation. The solution is easy and it is called desalination, however that requires an investment and people will NOT vote to actually invest in the future of others they only want to pay less than whatever taxes they pay.
@@wolfereignowns1154 While it's true that California's low average rainfall and large population contribute to water shortages, the situation is more complex than just inadequate water conservation or a simple solution like desalination. The water system in California is impacted by a combination of over-allocation of water rights, the demands of large-scale agriculture (which consumes a significant portion of the state's water supply), and climate change, which has made rainfall less predictable. Desalination is one potential solution, but it comes with its own set of challenges: it’s expensive, energy-intensive, and environmentally controversial. The brine byproduct can harm marine ecosystems, and the high costs of desalination plants would likely lead to increased water prices, which could be unpopular. Water conservation efforts, while sometimes inconvenient, are necessary because even with large-scale projects like desalination, the state would still need to use its resources wisely to avoid overuse and ensure long-term sustainability. It's less about people refusing to invest in the future and more about finding a balanced and multifaceted approach to managing a complex water system that supports both agriculture and a growing population.
The difficult part of this, is that water rights are inherently tied to property rights. If you own a acre of dirt but cant grow anything on it or build on it because you cannot get access to fresh water, that land has effectively no value. And if your family built a farm 200 years ago on a homestead, and the government comes in and says "We built a city nearby and people are more important, so you cant use water anymore" - that is a taking of property rights. Literally impossible to decouple the concept of personal property rights from water rights. And once people HAVE water rights, taking them away with a government gun is a *huge* issue.
not really. water and property are different. water can be considered real property but it absolutely not personal property. source, im a title officer
It is very easy to decouple them. Water should be treated as a highly regulated public good which everyone has to pay to access. And everyone should be required to reduce the use of water as much as possible and punished when they don't.
@@GeorgeMonet okay maybe it should but it isn't right now and thus you would have to trample someone's property rights to make it so. all of these "wouldn't it be nice" ideas fundamentally all base themselves on trampling on someones rights because they aren't you

CA is meant to have regular fires to thin-out the trees, it's meant to have tree clearings, brush clearings, and all that - But they didn't do any of that, because leftist care about trees and animals more than they do about actually preventing wildfires getting out of control. The fact that US allows water to be owned by private entities is insane. How is this shit legal. In Poland all water in rivers, all dams and all lakes are controlled by government. Privately you can own only pond, pool, well and collect rain water that falls on your land.
So wait if I own say 100 acres in Poland with a 25 acre lake the government would own/take ownership of that lake?
@@christianjones1834 You wouldn't be able to buy a lake in the first place so why worry?

Desalination plants, which convert seawater into freshwater, have both advantages and disadvantages. Here's a summary:
Pros:
Reliable Water Supply: Desalination provides a consistent source of water, independent of weather conditions.
Addresses Water Scarcity: It offers a solution to regions suffering from drought and chronic water shortages.
Diverse Applications: Desalinated water can be used for drinking, agriculture, and industrial purposes.
Reduces Dependence on Traditional Sources: It lessens reliance on rivers and groundwater, which can be unpredictable.
Proven Technology: Desalination is a well-established method for producing high-quality drinking water.

Furthermore, generally speaking you can collect rain water up to a certain amount. You should actually read the laws in your state properly because these laws protect us
@@Shade_Tree_Mechanic as far as hunting goes it depends on what animal, the time of year and what kind of land you own. For instance I owned a 10 acre plot that had a protected salmon run on it, herons and salmon were strictly protected and no animals or vegetation was allowed to be messed with 100 yards from beach on either side of the creek.
The purpose of the hunting psicense system is sustainable wild game, countries that cat grasp these have desolate ecosystems like China where anything that moves was killed long ago. We have beautiful animals in America and may countries like India, China, and Eastern bloc countries often have immigrants that are awe struck that we still have huntable wild game casually living in most cities limits. Tap water is different depending on the company that processes and purifies it. It also depends on the condition of the main waterline. My area has a reputation of maintaining water lines and efficiently purifying water for municipal use. But some other neighboring counties might have water that is...less than ideal. I know of one guy who filled his glass with tap water and it would have sediment in the bottom of the glass after a few minutes.

That is socialist nonsense. A total violation of private property rights and distinctly un-American in character. As a CalAm water customer of almost 40 years, I can attest to the super sketchy charges and billing issues as being a real thing. Also, look up all of the customers that have received random “high usage” charges when no leaks or overusage was present. Shit stinks to high heaven.
Also a Monterey Bay resident, and am appalled that some of this stuff took place right down the street.
Blame the government for that situation. You don't have a genuine free market. You should be demanding it.
This happened about 15 yrs ago. They held water against the farmers. Every crop affected had a sign saying "Congress Created Dust Bowl". And yes cali is going through a dry winter currently ..which means drought
Also related, the giant alfalfa and hay system in the Southwest where they grow the crop, which consumes a lot of water, only to ship and sell it to the middle east. Meanwhile the cost for feed for local farmers is out of control.
@@Byarger84 "The situation is more complex"
"It's these two people's fault"
Lol, you're a joke.
What state are you in because that is NOT the case here.
It is very easy to decouple them.
Water should be treated as a highly regulated public good which everyone has to pay to access. And everyone should be required to reduce the use of water as much as possible and punished when they don't.
@@GeorgeMonet okay maybe it should but it isn't right now and thus you would have to trample someone's property rights to make it so. all of these "wouldn't it be nice" ideas fundamentally all base themselves on trampling on someones rights because they aren't you
Then why does the water infrastructure gain its sustainability from tax payers. Many of which aren’t property owners.
"two bad things dont make a right but it does make them equal" i love you man.
