  • What size dropper do I need? Can I run an internally routed post? Having a dropper seatpost on your mountain bike can be a game-changer. Unfortunately, there is a good amount of confusion when it comes to finding the right size for your bike. Because dropper posts come in different travel options, lengths, and seat tube diameters, it is imperative that riders educate themselves before making a purchase. In this video, we take a deep dive into dropper seatpost sizing and lay out what's required before making the upgrade

    Great vid and real good info, I am lucky enough that my 150mm KS Lev fits greatly in my NS Eccentric Cromo HT, it's a large size frame and the collar slams all the way down on top of the seat-clamp. With my 6.0 ft it fits me great when peddling uphill and slams down all the way going DH and shredding the trails.

    I just bought my first MTB recently. I’m 6’0” and the size guidelines put me right in the middle of two frame sizes: 42cm and 47cm. I read the guidelines saying to size down for faster handling and that’s what I did. However, in order to achieve proper saddle height I need to position the seat post way too far out of the seat tube based on the minimum insertion line on the seat post. The seat post is so high that the minimum insertion line on the seat post is about an inch and a half above the top of the seat tube. Really felt like I was risking it. I reached out to Bikes Direct about it and showed them a picture. I was told riding it like that would void the warranty and could break the seat tube. Was also told I can’t return or exchange the bike because I no longer have the original box to ship it back in. I was also told they don’t have any different dropper post lengths. The bike is overall great so far but I’ve not been very enthused about this experience with the dropper post. So I am hoping there is a dropper post that can sit in the seat tube deep enough to be safe but also extend high enough for me to pedal comfortably. Thanks to this video I have a starting point and at least it seems like there’s hope for me now. Anyone have any suggestions or similar experiences?

    You also have to take suspension sag into account. Also don't forget about droppers with adjustable drop. If you get a 170 but it's too much, reduce the travel until it's right. One-up and PNW offer this feature.

    • @zmndrf
      @zmndrf 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you adjust travel? And if I got a 170 am I able to reduce it to a 150? I'm new to this, thanks in advance!

    • @KDub3911
      @KDub3911 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zmndrf certain models have adjustable travel. You can buy a little travel adjuster that slips into the inside of the dropper to make it stop short of it's regular top out point. Some are incremental and others are fully customizable to the exact mm where you cut your own size for exactly what you need.

    Buy a mtb model that doesnt come with a dropper seatpost (eg. Trek fuel ex 5). Then look for the same frame-sized model as the one you bought but with higher specs including dropper seat post (eg. Trek fuel ex 8) and check out the measurements for the dropper seat post. Then you can know what measurements you need for your specific model.

    Question i have an evil 2019 S size and I'm thinking of getting a M frame for my next purchase
    Who makes a dropper post that has the outer tube (where the frame of the bike clamps on) shorter as right now my bike has a 30.9 125mm but I want to buy a 30.9 150mm travel but I want to b able to stick it in as far as possible so I can use it for my small frame as well as the M frame
    Without it sticking too far out and getting in the way when I squat down for the steep downhills
    Thank you always great videos guys

    hi, I recently purchased an older Reverb with a 125mm travel but now I've seen a preowned newer version Reverb with 175cm travel (total length 467) that I'm keen on as it has new lever etc. I have a Focus e-mtbike with max insertion 265mm; rider height 255. I've done the calculations using the Rockshox PDF instructions and it might fit but yes it's complicated. with an e bike there's the charging port to think about right there where the hose barb needs to route. I've allowed the 52mm but I just need help.

      Worldwide Cyclery how to choose a saddle! The best way is to try them i know but in the real world it's kind a hard to do. So there must be some guidelines to follow when it comes time to choose a saddle and i don't see much info on that over youtube. Maybe handlebar, diameter, length, rise ect..or even shifter, easy to get a better feeling transmission by upgrading shifters. Anyway cheers guys and keep up the good work.🤘

I am 5‘9“, and have a 34 inch inseam measurement, so my leg extension is seems more than would be typical for most people that are 5’-9”. Hi I would reeeaally appreciate some help because I think the ‘Fox transfer sizing guide’ is actually wrong!
    In step 1 of their guide they tell you to measure your preferred seat height from saddle to where it goes into the frame. And in a chart it then told me that at my preferred height of 190mm could ONLY work with a 100mm dropper because of that measurement!
    I’ve got plenty of insertion room and would much rather a 150mm dropper.
    Is there any reason I would actually have to go for the shorter post because of my 190mm preference?

  • @nickpurdy

    Do you have to ride with the dropper fully extended? Would the post break if I only ever raised it to 80-90% of it's full extension? My bike has a really short seat tube and I have incredibly short legs/inseam. I need a dropper post so I can get on the bike from a standstill and then be able to raise it to riding height.

    • @WorldwideCyclery
      @WorldwideCyclery  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should be okay running at 80-90% but would be ideal if you can find one that can be fully extended to your pedalling position that would be ideal so it is always where you want it instead of messing with it every time you raise it.

    • @TrailBreaker
      @TrailBreaker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends. That seat tube number is a straight line measurement from the BB to the seat post clamp. Your actual seat tube will have a bend partway down which will limit how far the dropper will insert. Use your seat tube or similar size thing (broom handle) and measure how far it goes in before it bottoms out

    So when the post extends to maximum height from dropped, is it the same length for 125mm and 170mm. I have a 150mm and need to raise my seat post up to get the right climb position, but wish it would drop lower when going down hill.

      Na man, to actually fit each different drop measurement the post part will vary in length and hence the overall length will also vary. More drop = longer

      Word tooth and PNW make good levers that might clear the shifters. Or, you may need to just mount it inside and reach farther to get it to work

    I got reign advanced 1 (2015) s size frame. I got rock shock 125mm droper and it is a little bit too small. I am 177cm or 5'10 tall guy. can I fit on my bike 170mm droper? I want rock shok again. no Idea what size all unit is? cose now I am lift post up limits.

    • @WorldwideCyclery
      @WorldwideCyclery  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I doubt that you will be able to make a 170mm work. If you are on a Small frame you should be looking for a bigger bike, not just a bigger dropper. :)

    dammit... my dropper (KS eten) is too short for my size... now i have to buy a new dropper...
    also it has little side to side play ans when you pit the seat all the way down the seat clamp touches/pinches the seal

      If your insert is on the maxium height level and fully extend slight bend on knee or fully straight on heel yes you do..

    I almost bought a trek roscoe 7 with a factory dropper but after sizing it up for me as I’m 5’7” a medium size bike is what they recommend but at lowest setting the seat height is like 1.5” too high. Back to square one...

    hey there, i’m planning to buy a fox transfer. my stack height for my current seatpost is about 185mm so i can have at most 185-50=135 travel. but following Fox instructions for choosing fox transfer posts, it turns out that a 100mm is best for me. Unfortunately, 100mm travel is not available around our area. So i plan on having a 125mm post. What can you say about it?will this be ok?

      If the post is too long for you it will be really uncomfortable :( I would recommend ordering one that is the correct size. We carry a number of posts that are 100mm and we ship worldwide.
