You are a genius, Al. Many players, like myself, just don't have the patience to roll a football game for 1-2 hours or longer. This keeps enough flavor of the game that we can see the development for each drive and our imagination can fill in the blanks. Exactly what the Dr ordered!

The drive-based gameplay is a really brilliant idea -- it preserves the game's narrative while speeding up the play considerably compared to traditional play-by-play simulations. Well done!

played my first game tonight. 1988 Houston vs Cincinnati. Houston was up 41-24 1 tick into the 4th.Cincy with a TD, houston punts, cincy goes 3 and out but go for it on 4th down and grab a quick TD only to miss the XP to make it 41-37. On the kickoff houston loses the ball and the bengals recover. Cincinnati scores a quick TD pass, 2 ticks remaining and its 44-41 CIncy has their first lead of the game. Warren Moon takes over and scores on a two tick drive to win it as time expires for the efficient Oiler offense. 48-44 FINAL. WOW. most intense final quarter of rolling.

I've seen this around and never checked it out until now. I'm glad I did. Great game!

Excellent description of the game, you do a great job of laying out what the game is and what it isn't. I absolutely recommend the game, it's a blast!

It's great that sports game makers are friends with each other, not rivals. I have also been in touch with Keith Avallone. I created a baseball sim, which I sold long ago but no longer offer to the public, but I'm always playing seasons of LF Baseball. Glat do meet you. Len

Thanks Al for the Game as a gamer and TH-cam content Creator i am seriously thinking of putting the game on my Channel. As a Steelers Fan i thank you for playing against Tom Brady and proving we still can't beat him in a sports Sim Engine

I’ve Downloaded and having a great time in my first 5 “weeks” of play. It’s allowed me to create the TBFL. Totally Bitchin’ Football League. The first season is in 1982 and it’s proving to be quite the roller coaster!
    Thank you.

Fascinated by this. I'm not normally into games where I am just participating in executing the simulation, but I find the design and structure quite interesting. On one end of the spectrum, you could have a game where a single handful of dice determine the entire game result (in wargame terms: strategic). On the other end of the spectrum, you could have a game where each dice roll is a single play, complete with downs, flags, injuries, timeouts, reviews (in wargamer terms: tactical). This game finds the sweet spot of being operational in nature.

Is this the same Al Wilson that helped with SAT many years ago?

Good game. Didn't like the result much, but what are you gonna do?
Question: Did you forget your rule change, or was this game the reason for it? (About the Go For It option being available at 7:30 left)

Gostkowski missed three 40-49 FGs in 2017 ... two here ... love it! He missed two against LAC that year in one game. So there you go. Tremendous game!

I have an idea for the 'go for it on fourth down' rule. Roll two dice. If it comes up doubles (11 22, and so forth), they make the first down. If not, they fail on fourth down, ball goes to the other team with good field position. Could also be used with onside kicks.

Al, the game looks interesting. I've been playing sports game sims since the early 1960s. After watching you play the game here, I'm wondering if you've tried replaying the 1972 Dolphins, or 207 Patriots seasons?

I know this is an old video, but I got an interesting situation here in a game.
Close game from the start with 10 lead changes. Team scores a TD to tie it at 30, two ticks remain. After kickoff, timing die is a one, but offense is EFFICIENT for that drive, so they decide to extend it for a drive that would end the game on a field goal. And the kick is... NO GOOD! Question: Is there time for a desperation play? (As written, the exception for EFFICIENT teams seem to apply only for actual scores...)

Interesting concept but i think i like more stats. I did cut into my time playing stratomatic football. My games are 80 plays long not counting KOffs and xps. Instead of 4 downs to get 10 yards, i've added 6 plays to go 15y. That allows me to script the first 3 or 4 plays quickly and not spend too much time thinking about it. My field is 90 yards also.

I just have some questions - it seems like at times you change the order of how the dice are read, sometimes it’s the black then red then white, sometimes red etc.
Is that just you forgetting or am I missing something.
Honestly this is fantastic and I’d like to try it.
    Also I don’t have a decider die. What’s the d6 equivalent?

    • @TimTim3000
      @TimTim3000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

When you're rolling two dice, the order is important so you read black then white (so a black 5 and white 3 is 53). When you roll three dice as in the drive result the colors don't matter, you read the dice in ascending order (so if you roll 4,6, 2 it reads as 246). You can use a regular die for decider -- 1, 3, 5 means yes and 2,4,6 means no.
