My God, where have all the years gone?! I remember knocking about ALL of these places when I was growing up - as if it was yesterday. Things were a lot simpler back then - these days, everybody wants to rule the world! That said I'm 63, still living in Brum and loving it! 👍🏾❤
@@Elst07896yes I agree. It's a million times better now. Though the end of corporation street by the hospital looking over to the old fire station hasn't changed one bit. It still looks horrible and bleak. The only difference is you don't have the angry skanky men shouting down their mobile phones in the old footage
I don't think it's 1971 more like 1975,1978 .I noticed a ford capri mk 2 and ford cortina mk 2 which came out about 1976,77. Other vehicles are in the film many of which came out in the mid 1970s.
Me and my mates used to go to Brum every Saturday afternoon in the 70s from Tipton, Reddington rare records was our main place and oasis, but i wouldn't go now if you paid me, 1 it is so expensive, and 2 it is spot the Brummie.
@@rosaryboy4271 Oh God, do you remember that?! I used to work at Vesey Street back in the day and had to walk under there most days to get to work. Not nice. But I tell you what, in the summer it was fantastic! I remember queuing under there waiting to watch The Empire Strikes Back at The Gaumont and cool breeze was wonderful. Happy days... 🫶🏾
@@rosaryboy4271 I worked on Green Street too: C B Frost &Co! They moved from Vesey Street to Green Street. Wow! One of those X Files moments I think. 😂👍🏾
It isnt. Its a hundred times nicer now than it was then. The old buildings looked horible which is how i remember them as a child at that period. They were dirty. Blacm from soot, oppressive. Interesting though some places i think are a complete toilet now like the top rnd of corporation street by the uni and st chads we're no nicer then. Its just a shame the nice, well-dressed, respectable people from the 70s who were mostly there working, shopping or having a nice day out. have all been replaced with hordes of bumbling, shuffling, scruffy, unkempt, uncouth, incoherent, under employed, under educated trash. Its very very sad

@idratherbeaphilthanajustin9533 re the people.... utterly shocking. I actually lived in the city centre for 3 years until recently .... the bit up on the canal near blindly place. I loved it there it felt very safe and full of lovely people just enjoying a nice life living there or visitors having a nice day out exploring. Shame to have to admit though it was lovely because it was the least "brummie" area in birningham. The bits where what now calls itself "locals" live aren't good sadly

Getting pretty bored of these videos now as they only really ever show the same bits of the city centre. I'd love to see other bits like aston, digbeth, jewelery quarter, small heath etc
It's a horrible regime in my opinion, but you can't blame Islam for what has happened to our country. You cant blame the fox, blame the government for opening the gate and letting it in.
Thanks for bringing back all those wonderful memories. Happy Days.
This wasn't 1971. The Austin Allegro wasn't on sale until 1973 and the Mk 2 Capri 1974!

This is the Birmingham I remember and I thought straight away it was later than 1971
1976 at the earliest.
About 78 I reckon. MK2 Capri on a P plate is 76, Mk2 escort in front not built till 75.
Agreed. It looked like the Birmingham I remembered going to the Locarno and Silver Blades as was. Great days... ❤
Birmingham has changed , some for the good and some for the bad. We need more Union Jacks not to represent the past but Today ! Our only Home!
Yep can hardly see any around Brum now… very curious indeed
The Centennial Tower blocks Looking fantastic in their original design and the JF Kennedy memorial.
Me too. A great city back then.
It looks bleak compared to now! ❤

Film of The NEC near the end. Opened in 1976.
Yeah i thought that
It's later than '71
There's a '76 MkII Ford Escort @ 4:27, and 2 '76 and '77 MkIV Ford Cortinas' around 8:45-9:00
Just saw a Ford consul that was the car after the zephyr and zodiac by Ford so this is 76-77.
Cesspit 2024
Very annoying and huge watermark throughout? Really necessary. You think someone`s going to copy this and make money?
Looks amazing. I could have literally gone and have some tea with Darnell and Shantelle without hassle.

Definitely later than '71! There's a MK1 VW Golf in the film.😏
Yes the mk1 golf first made in 74.😅
Town was better then look at all the Union jacks flying the way it sould be do miss the old town, them subways were great if it was raining heavy
You had to be careful on some nights! As big a strapping lad as I am, I was little scared walking under those subways sometimes. .😨

We are not British we are Brummie 😊
Looks dangerous. No way buses and cars are allowed to zoom around so close to pedestrians these days! Thankfully.
