  • Swans of Saraswati, a telugu contemporary Carnatic progressive rock number, is an original composition of the Bangalore based band Agam. The song is inspired by the Carnatic classic ‘Bantureethi Kolu’ by Tyagaraja in the ‘Hamsanadam’ raga.
    Lyrics:
    Pallavi:
    baṇṭu rīti koluviyyavayya rāma
(O Lord Rama, as an orderly sentry,
Into your service, may I gain entry)
    Anupallavi:
    tuṇṭa-viṇṭivāni modalaina
madādula koṭṭi nēla kūla jēyu nija
(For, so shall I strike and blow to pieces,
Lust, arrogance and all of the six vices!)
    Charanam:
    rōmāñcamane ghana kañcukamu
    rāma bhaktuḍane mudra biḷḷayu
    rāma nāmamane vara khaḍgamivi
    rājillunayya tyāgarājunikē
(With fine armor that leaves one tingling,
'His devotee', the seal on my signet ring,
The power of your name, my sword transcendent,
Thus may I serve you truly, always resplendent.)
    Swans of Saraswati by Agam.

I stumbled into Agam band only a month back when looking for some other tracks in TH-cam. Now I am ardent fan having listened all their numbers in YT.
This track is great amalgam of Carnatic and rock. Taking a really well know Carnatic number and wrapping it with amazing rock composition shows quality of this band. Yesterday while traveling the I just set my iPhone on repeat mode and listened to this song 21 times straight with no break. During that 2 hours period the flight arrived 30 minutes late and then it sat on the tarmac for 1.5 hours; but I was engrossed in this beautiful number.
Harish is great singer, while Praveen’s fingers just glide through the frets effortlessly (at least it appears so!); Ganesh, Vignesh, Siva, and Swamy ably assisting the team!

Intro reminds me of YYZ by Rush. You've gained a new fan right here. The feels and emotions laid throughout your tracks make me want to read and understand more on Hinduism beyond my very basic understanding. Much love from a Malaysian Muslim.

Harish 'Brilliant'. Loved the Kalyani ragam mixed in charanam. It was magical touch where you sang the swaras without chords in the Anupallavi part.( I loved it, loved, loved it). God bless.

Darn - heck of a piece. I have detested fusion/western for years but this is something else. It takes a genius to come up with such a piece without sacrificing the core. Been on a loop for about a week now. Same goes with his other two renditions.

Brilliant fusion ! It will take the best of the geniuses to come up with such a fusion without deviating from the core substance of the song and the divinity and raaga with Bhaava! I am just amazed listening to this rendition ! The guitar piece was excellent on its own !

Your "A dream to remember" album is absolute Levitation. Would love to see you guys compose few songs in kannada too (or have I missed it). All the best.
