    Ravel really polished this instrumentation. He always does, but it's so clear here.

    16:53 They are bouncing the wooden stick of the bow off the strings instead of using the hair. This technique is called col legno batutto.

    Ravel wrote several pieces in this kind of mood. Personally speaking, I think it represents Ravel at his best.

      @@Alix777. All your comments so far has been spreading hate. If you don't like the composer could you just shut up and keep your stupid opinion to yourself?

      @@Alix777. I'm talking about your opinion on hating the composer, not Debussy. Commenting like this express that you are trying to spread hate to Ravel. Don't act stupid. Not just Ravel, I've seen you’ve been talk shit to other composer like Liszt for a long time. That's why I said keep your opinion to yourself.

    Ma Mère l'Oye is one of Ravel's more gentle, lyrical works, so there's not much "drama" or big, emotional moments. That said, I hope you enjoy the sheer beauty of this piece, which I adore.

      It is however, like his opera "L'enfant et le sortilèges" a piece that is the closest to his true soul. He always retained a strong connection to childhood, children and the way you dream yourself away to far away magical lands when you were a child.

    The Instrument you were referring to at 13:13 is a Contrabasoon wich is an even deeper variant of the Bassoon(the long Red/brown one), wich you are simingly confusing with the Oboe. The oboe is the smaller black wind Instrument that sounds much higher and more clear. This one: 8:00

      All of them have in common that they are double reed instruments, though.

    Did you get a chance to see a concert in the ElbPhi yet?
    You definately should. Nothing beats going to classical concerts. If you don't go to see a guest orchestra but your local NDR instead it will be affordable. (A fact that I happily exploited when I did some trips to Berlin. Watching the BPO outside of Berlin will have you cry if you see the ticket prices, but if you see them in Berlin their concerts are as affordable as any other local orchestra)

    I've seen Salonen a lot -- he was music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic when I lived in Los Angeles, and he's now music director of the San Francisco Symphony which is about two hours' drive from where I live now. I think he's especially good for big 20th century symphonic works; I heard a lot of great Sibelius and Shostakovich from him. (I'm not as much a fan of how he interprets Beethoven and other pre-1850 composers, though.)

    A piece of some classical fairy tales .But where is Mother Goose/Mère L'Oye?

    • @ftumschk
      @ftumschk ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mother Goose didn't get a story of her own, but was originally the fictional narrator of fairy stories in Perrault's "Contes de ma mère l'Oye", which was translated into English as "Tales of Past Times, Told by Mother Goose". I guess she was an early precursor of Uncle Remus.

    Great content ‼️🦾 I know you’ve done a lot of Mozart reactions already, but if you haven’t heard Symphonie Concertante K 364 1st Movement yet then I highly recommend, it’s in Amadeus soundtrack

      No reason to do bits of works. Just do the whole Sinfonia Concertante. It is one of Mozart's best.

      PLEASE (conducted by Gardiner) Gardiner plays Symphony No. 3 the same way it was played in Beethoven's time (using historical instruments, his tuning and his tempo markings) IT IS BEYOND AMAZING. The recording is on YT and Spotify.
