    Simone Inzaghi's Inter Milan look to be one of the strongest sides in Europe this season. And in their current domination of Serie A, they're deploying some rather unusual tactics.
    Today, I'm going over some intriguing aspects of Inzaghi's team, particularly the unorthodox use of their centre backs in possession. If you'd like me to do a full deep-dive of this team, let me know in the comments!

From the Conte's Inter there are only four player so I think that all the merit goes to Inzaghi. Finally some important recognition towards Inzaghi, I think he is among the best in the world as of now. He is unmatched in both tactic displays and getting the best of the best out of each individual player he has. He doesn't need much spending or crazy signings to do things well, he prefers a solid group that believe in itself and in his ideas: his ability to make old "aged out" players show the best version of themselves is really unmatched right now. He also revolutionized the back 3 formation and especially the 3-5-2, known as a defensive formation, to be an incredibly offensive and possession-based one. Right now he can be considered the best manager in the world, I really hope he stays at Inter for a long time and eventually become Inter's Wenger/Ferguson: especially after last year's critics, he'd really deserve that.

    What Inzaghi is doing is like an irresistible puzzle. He presents an extremely flexible 3-5-2, and none of the coaches who applied it before with Inter got the same results. Even more strangely, the 3-5-2 formation, which seems easy to stop, has proven unstoppable under Inzaghi. I believe that if Inzaghi and Serie A witness significant development, especially if he wins the Scudetto and the Champions League, we might see the birth of a new and unique football school.
    Inzaghi stands out by making Inter players, with a high level precise ball reception, excel in accurate passing. It's noteworthy that Inter is the team with the fewest individual dribbles in Serie A this season. This showcases Inzaghi's level of collective thinking, as he has turned all 22 starting players into a cohesive system, ready to adapt at any time and under any circumstances. This is something I haven't seen with any other coach.
    Inzaghi's Inter is giving birth to a new school that competes with the schools of Guardiola, Klopp, and Mourinho. It's good to see an English-language video discussing Inter, as there is unfortunately significant neglect of Serie A despite it being one of the top leagues tactically and technically

It's a big club, but it can not (sadly) compete financially with the best Premier League teams, Bayern, Real, PSG and Barca. However, they do work incredibly well with what they have.Italy kind of won the Euro 2021 the same way.
      Italians can often do better with less, because they have been and still are, probably, the country which better masters all the tactical and intellectual aspects of the game. If you think better, you can still have a chance to win, even when you have less skills with the ball.

    I am an inter milan fan and yes i really love this attacking defense strategy because creating numerical advantage is the key to surpass the lined up defense of a passive team. In Serie A we always see Pavard and Darmian always changing position or Dimarco going to the other side of the pitch from left to right. You find pavard in the box while chalanoglu is top tier defender and playmaker. Mkitharian and Barella are the engines for possession and counter attack. Lautaro is a playmaker but also the finisher. Thuram plays almost in every attacking position because of his great speed. Today's football is about complete footballers who can do more complex tasks on the field

    Inzaghi's game involves the constant search for the extra man in possession. To achieve this he demands a lot of off-the-ball movement and asks each player to cover different positions. Last year it happened to see Inter build with Onana on the line of defenders. Obviously it is crucial that the team runs a lot and has the ability to stay focused to always make the preventive coverages.
    This kind of play is the key to making the best of a team that is very poor at dribbling and running the ball. In Italy many people talk about Inter's great roster, however, at the level of names it is not as if there are who knows what champions. Lots of good players who make the best because they are put in the right conditions.
    I close on an interesting note. In some matches (e.g., the one with Milan) the right back and center back come out to the midfield to anticipate the opposing midfielders, alternating man-to-man and zone play.

Also the team recently adopted a style where even the wide attacking full backs switch positions along with the center backs. The whole teams does that actually lol

    I have never really understood why Inzaghi's inter are usually overlooked when talking about potential dark horse in the champions League. They have been relatively consistent over the past three seasons he has been with them. Yet nobody really takes a cursory look at what they do. Their unconventional methods has always fascinated me because their style of play really doesn't match the ethos of their tactical setup: most times we assume because they line up with a back five they are just the archetypal Italian team that seat back to defend and catch the opposition on the break. Yes they do that but in a more subtle and different manner than we are accustomed to (for example the use of bastoni as a ball playing left center half but is also mobile enough to play as a wing back). It's this versatility in their tactics that I think that makes them really dangerous. For example in the champions league final last season there was a point they had man city scrambling. I guess Pep was a bit stunned by their tactics also before Rodri gave them the breakthrough

    • @matt6493
      @matt6493 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yes totally, and I would dare to say that with this team at the moment , we would have won the final last year. But anyway, inter is a real joy to watch this season

      Two years ago at anfield they made liverpool tremble with fear. When Inter shows its better face they also put a lot of pressure on you and don't just wait in defense. In attack they always have a man open because the opposing attackers never follow Bastoni and Pavard beyond midfield and so a favorable triangle is always created.
      Against Atletico it will be a complicated match, but if they pass the round they become very dangerous for all teams. Also because with last night's victory they have closed the serie A.

      @@DaniDani-nh5wn in addition they are really good at man to man marking while also when there is the need to stay compact they do that very well also. They adapt they approach to what ever situation they find themselves at the moment.

    • @franzjack
      @franzjack 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      they don't line up a back five. the team plays a 3-5-2 so it is basically 5 midfielders. it is not a 5-3-2 (unless the last 15 meters in yuor area). In italy lots of teams plays with that and the 5 are considerated midfielders, so you are always one man up in the middle of the pitch (even 2 if the other team use 3 midfielders) but you lose 1 in attack (so you must have 2 central strikers) and you must have 3 central backs. But Idon't get why outside italy they see the 3-5-2 always like 5-3-2

    • @mikenkeze9582
      @mikenkeze9582 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@franzjack on paper it's a 5 back line but the wing backs don't do much of defending. Still there still a deviation from the norm because the center backs still push forward to link up with the midfield
