- Rusty Wallace is one of the most iconic drivers in the history of the sport. The 1989 Winston Cup champion was a force in NASCAR for nearly 25 years, and picked up more than 50 wins along the way. Along with being a decorated Hall of Famer in the sport, Rusty Wallace may be the luckiest driver in the history of the sport. During a time where safety was not the best in NASCAR, Rusty Wallace not only survived some serious wrecks, but did so without serious injury. Today we’re going to look at Rusty’s career and some of his worst wrecks throughout it.

9:09 Kulwicki's death was from a plane crash. Davey Allison's death was from a helicopter crash.
This page is nothing but AI BS.
You are correct.
Rusty was one of the best drivers in the sport. A certified legend in his own right. Those 2 wrecks he had at Daytona and Talladega were absolutely crazy.
True
I remembered seeing both those wrecks in 93 live on tv. I could've believed he wasn't hurt in the Daytona flip considering how high his car got
My parents always referred to them as "Rusty Rolls". He was my mums favourite driver
I worked with a company that sponsored Rusty. He is truly unique and one of the smartest and committed racers out there. The personal stories of his are hilarious and usually rated R! The whole family has done a lot for the industry.
Amazing that in all of his flipping wrecks, Rusty's car managed to land right side up. The first NASCAR race I ever watched was the 1993 Daytona 500 where he went for that flip down the backstretch.
Being the huge Rusty Wallace fan I am I have the Talladega wreck photos out of Car Craft magazine framed on the wall in my collection room - saw that wreck live also!
Rusty is and will always be my favourite driver. I chose him because of the rivalry he had with Earnhardt (with Dale being my dad's favourite). The two drivers I root for, after coming back to nascar about 2 years ago, are both based on my adoration for Rusty. Bubba is my main, Cindric is my second. Bubba for the last name (I know, no relation) and Cindric because of the #2. There aren't many cars more iconic than the MGD Thunderbird or Miller Lite Taurus. 💚
That one flip in his 72 car is scary for me. That was the same exact race with Bruce Jacobi's wreck, that put him in a coma for 8 years.
Wallace’s wreck in ‘93 was the inspiration for the King’s crash at the end of Pixar’s Cars
I thought that was Petty's flip at Darlington?
@@dannydevito9056 I don’t know for sure which one, I just heard this from other comment sections
Rusty was amazing. How did he survive 1993 Talladega? Thank goodness NASCAR made the improvements on the roofflaps.
The thing about flipping is that the car releases energy as it’s tumbling. It looks scarier than hitting the wall but it’s usually safer.
There were multiple flips in 1993, & not just both of Rusty's, that were catalysts to the roof flaps being developed.
The wrecks Talladega and Daytona are burned into the back of my mind. I remember watching those wrecks as a kid and thinking how insane that must feel!! 🤯🤯🤯
I'm confused, was Rusty a race car driver or a stunt man.😂
1993 was a brutal year for Nascar, Rusty's flips were bad but mainly just flashy compared to some of the other crashes that year.
Also losing Alan Kulwicki and Davey Allison that year was tragic.
Rusty was a great driver and a champion in NASCAR.
Hell yeah
The 1989 Champion, Rusty Wallace!
He was with pontiac in 1993, that was a ford pictured
Then he switched to Dodge in 2003
He is a living legend.
Rusty Wallace bring me back so many memories. He was my favorite driver back in the old days of NASCAR.
I was a big Rusty fan growing up.
Rusty was the real deal. Came up through hard work and determination. One of the last of the old school racers. I was always a Dale fan, but knew Rusty was cut from the same cloth. Rusty made everybody step up their game. And tough.....he damn sure was. Wish Rusty would of gotten his Daytona 500 win, and waited a couple more years before he retired. A True NASCAR Legend. GOD BLESS ya Mr.Wallace.
I think rusty had a way of saving himself from injuries, like at daytona and talladega. But at the other tracks, that was just gods hand.
@_peters6221It was both.
When I moved to Winston-Salem I immediately became a Rusty Wallace. Because I drew 5 on the race pool at work. Rusty qualified 5th and win the race on Sunday at North Wilksboro...
Another great video! Rusty and Miller/MGD/Lite beer were a perfect partnership in my opinion. Some of the best looking cars ever.
Great video
I always loved his black miller genuine draft car very dark and edgy
I always like watching videos of him Dale and Davey racing together in the black cars
It was almost like they were the 3 black knights of NASCAR that no driver wanted to entangle themselves with
Rusty's twin 125 crash in 83 was even more harrowing as it took place in the 2nd qualifying race, in the first race Bruce Jacobi had an almost identical crash in the exact same spot that left him in a 4 year coma he never woke up from.
Every Monday, i just sit and wait for the notification of a new video lol
rusty along side geoff bodine and newman is a menace . these 3 had some awful wrecks yet they went through them just fine .
I don't think you understand what "menace" means
@@TangoWolf09 i think i do . i may not . im not a native english speaker . its possible that i made a mistake there . my bad .
@@thatonepolishguy-wg4tf All good my friend. In English, the term "Menace" is generally used to refer to someone who intentionally and maliciously causes damage and chaos.
I did a couple of jobs at Rusty Wallace‘s beautiful home in Ormond Beach Florida
I thought he lived on that lake in North Carolina. He probably has several homes throughout the country though
@@JJ-fy9hi he is a wealthy man so yes, he probably has multiple homes
Great videos
10:09 the crash that would bring the Roof Flaps into NASCAR.
My fave as a kid up till he retired
1988 Rusty wreck - Race was on Saturday night and Rusty yielded the car to Larry Pearson with about 200 laps to go. Neck strain.
Rusty Wallace was the man!
Was a rusty fan growing up. Crazy how things were in those daya.
That first flip in the qualifying race I never seen before. 😮
Rusty went airborne so many times he inadvertently received a pilot's license doing so.
Rusty was my hero when I was a kid.
Actually, Alan died in an airplane crash, Dave’s Allison is the one that died in a helicopter crash.
I’m still kind of surprised Wallace stuck with Penske for what would be the vast majority of his career. As most know Nascar was always secondary to Penskes Indycar interests and I can’t help, but wonder if rusty might have gotten another championship or two if he signed with someone else.
He is very lucky.
10:20 Earnhardt 100% spun his ass on purpose and had a dose of reality when it scared the shit out of him.
Ryan Newman is also super lucky hes been in really bad wrecks as well
3:13 - 3:30 - Well; never knew about “THIS” flip… in 1983
And of course it had to be at “DAYTONA”
Foreshadowing; indeed……
Kulwickis death was from a plain crash..Davey Allison died in a helicopter crash at talladega superspeedway
I always respected the Ford drivers like Rusty, Mark Martin , Matt Kenseth , Dale Jarrett , Davey Allison ECT ......They were far more respectful on the track . Then you have Chevy drivers Dale Earnhardt always knocking people out of the race hot heads like Tony Stewart
1:08 Sideshow Bob in a race car
Now I just pictured him stepping on a rake and reacting like Rusty would’ve, but it’s Sideshow Bob in a southern accent 😂
Love him or hate, Rusty Wallace is as tough a racecar driver as you'll ever see.
Alan was killed in t a plane crash not a helo
I wonder if Rusty and other older drivers worry about that brain disease from concussions
He would stretch in the car before green flag . Always moving
Dale Sr tried to kill Rusty that day. Karma came back on his sorry though lol.
💥💥Rusty wallace was my favorite driver growing up. I was more of a fan of the ford drivers Davey Allison, Mark Martin, Dale Jarrett, Bill Elliot, Alan kulwicki.
With that be said my man rusty did have 9 lives sheesh, the amount of times this guy probably should've been killed is crazy.
Rusty escaped death, and caused a young mans death not long ago. Good job
Wanna elaborate?
Rusty is a Legend
Another great video mate.
