- Hi sewing besties!! Welcome back to another sewing tutorial.
Today we are making a gathered maxi skirt with an elastic waist band. I first made this skirt this year for my brand Solana Handmade and I used Pointelle Cotton Jersey Fabric but this time I used this white embroidered cotton fabric.
I can either make it into a maxi skirt or maybe you first want to test your pattern and check how you go by making it into a mini or midi skirt.
Let me know how you go and if you have any questions leave them in the comments here. And if you have any tips for me and everyone else please also leave them in the comments so we can all learn from each other.

OMG I just noticed a HUGE mistake with the pattern!!!! It’s not your waist measurement you need but your HIP measurement!!!
1.5 what?
@@debacore well which is it? where is the mistake?
@nancymanzi5376 i think what she meant is that in the beginning she said the waist is 96 cm but it is the hips measurements
yeh, I did figure it out anyway 😀, obviously hips are more cm around than waste
I just followed this tutorial and made this skirt a few days ago! It turned out so well, this tutorial was so easy and simple to follow and I would highly recommend this! The skirt turned out so cute, I used a yellow floral print cotton, and I’ve gotten quite a few compliments on it! 10/10 tutorial, thank you so much!
You are so welcome!!:) thanks for the lovely feedback
Thank you SO much for your video and the patterns you offer. I just finished the Molly Shirt and a mini gathered skirt for my college aged granddaughter. I can't wait to give it to her for Christmas! Your tutorials are so helpful, I am not very experienced with a sewing machine but your videos allowed me to accomplish something that I wouldn't have had the confidence to do on my own!
Just discovered your channel and I'm so glad I did! Feel so inspired to start sewing again. Please keep making these wonderful tutorials!
just finished the skirt🎉🎉
I can't wait to wear it in the summer☀️
thank you so so much❤❤
Thank you. I'm a beginner and watching others sew helps. I look forward to trying this soon.
Love your channel so so much! I even made my OWN original top today, thanks to your guidance on how to create your own pattern. Thank you! ❤
Heyyy what a great tutorial thank you!!!! Glad to have found your channel as I really like your dress style looking forward to more of your videos. Thank you!!! ❤
I already planned on making a skirt like this, so it's perfect that I saw this on my feed!
i made one in a few hours with this tutorial !! thank you sm it was so helpful!! mine turned out great but the fabric i chose is too stiff and it looks like a costume 😂 ill wash it and see if it softens !
Thank you!! I just finished the skirt and I really love it, great tutorial 😊
Thank you very much for this tutorial, it's amazing! 💕
Thank you so much for your video! It was very interesting to watch and I can’t wait to try and sew it by myself 💗🥰
I will love to know how you did a matching top because it’s gorgeous!
Hey, i love your account soo much, it really helps to learn how to sow💕 thanks a lot and keep going 💪🏻
@SewingwithSolana Hi Solana! Do you also have patterns and/or tutorials for both of these adorable tops you paired with the maxi skirt? And, the dress you're wearing - is that your dress pattern?! I think my daughter would love ALL of these things!! Thank you :)
Love the video, How would one put a slit in this, just on that side seem?
Thank you SO much. I I saw your page on Instagram and decided to watch the video. And damn I made my first skirt in my life, and it looks so gorgeous. You are the best blogger in the world ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing this very nice tutorial for that skirt, I love mine! One question: is there a tutorial for the very left top you’re wearing in the thumbnail picture? It looks like two squares on two straps- I love it! How can I get it? 🤩
i absolutely love my new skirt! thank you for the detailed tutorial🙌
off the record but i love your accent its so mesmerising
firstly you’re so pretty and second I can’t wait to make this 🤍🎀
wow. you really explained it simple and perfect. thank you
Also just wanted to point out if you’re using a regular sewing machine for overlocking, MAKE SURE you change the presser foot! I was this close 🤏 to breaking a needle
What did you change the presser foot to?
Just a regular zig zag stitch presser foot
so nice, will follow the logic to make a gathered dress, ty
You teach so well ❤
Hi, thank you so much for your video, it will be my next project! Just one question: How can I change the measurements if I would like to wear the skirt a bit more up, so not on my hips, but on my waist? :-)
Did you make the dress you are wearing? Love it!!
hey! wonderful tutorial, thank you!
i have two questions:
1. can i only use zigzag stitches? my sewing machine is very old and has just zigzags
2. what type of fabric should it be? what should i ask for in the shop?
in the description she says she used white embroidered cotton fabric!
@@cherrystar9209heyy even though she said it'sa cotton fabric it's real name is hakoba.
Hi sophie, i love your tutorials, it would be nice if you can share the process printing the patterns in a regular printer or your advices on it, thank you
I had issues at first but I realized that if you are in the US, you need A4 paper and then it works!
Thank you so much!! You are the best
Hey I have a question, at the beginning of the video you talk about needing your hip measurement but later on you write down waist. Which one is the correct one?
Upps, I didn’t even notice! You need your hip measurement!
@@Sewingwithsolana Also a little confused with this, should waist measurement be used if I want it to be high waisted and snug around the waist? I'm afraid to cut as it's my first time using bought fabric 🤣Thank you for the tutorial btw, love your videos 🙏
Perfect 🎉
Is there something I can do instead of overlocking? Because I only have a sewing machine
zig zag stitch, or change presser foot and do an overlock stitch
Very nice tutorial. Thank you.
Well explained.
Question! I got the recommended length of fabric and am actually using the same measurements as you, but cannot figure out a way to cut my fabric in order to have enough for all the pieces. Any advice? You mentioned you got 1, 7 m of fabric. How wide is it?
Did you find a way? Im struggling with the same thing
She said 1.7 meters.
th-cam.com/video/Ma7HLPjbvAU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-rTGTrlePm2F6LNm
Some easier calculations. Lol But I’d make mine longer.
She probably used fabric that is 1.5m wide - but she doesn‘t specify and even then my calculations say your fabric would need to be more than 1.7m long if you wanna cut on grain. Be mindful of that when you buy fabric and calculate for yourself!
How much fabric do you approx need
love this thank you for sharing :)
I have been trying to buy your dress pattern but it says your shop is not open right now. Is there a way to buy your pattern somewhere else as I wanted to make the dresses for Christmas. Please help
They will be available in 2 weeks!! 💗
Hello! Why did you add 15cm to your waist after you measured it? X
I think it's for the elastic band + so the skirt can pass your hips it they're wider than your waist
I think she says waist, but should say hip.
I am so lost where did you make the mistake is the equation actually your hip measurement, 1/2 it then add 15cm?
Thank you!❤
I don’t know if it’s because I lined all three tiers, but i’m having troubles gathering the fabric. the thread snaps while I gather them. I’m trying to be delicate with them but because the material is thick, the thread is too fragile:( any tips?
I put two spools of thread on my machine, one brightly colored. Hold the bright thread down on the fabric and zig zag over it. Then easy to pull the bright thread to gather.
How much fabric do we need for this?
I might have missed it 😅 but what fabric did you use?
how much fabric should i buy?
how many meters of fabric did you take
My measurements don’t make any sense. My first one is 71,5 cm, do I need to cut twice with 71,5 cm for back and front or do I need to divide it by 2 and then cut but when I do that it’s way to short for my hips and waist?
And my last section is 160 cm, when I cut two with 160cm that’s so much fabric that I think that it’s wrong 😂 but when I divide it then I have the problem with the first section. I think I did something wrong. My HIP is 113 cm normal and my waist is 83cm
You'll need to cut 2 of the 71.5cm for the first one, and your last section is correct at 160cms 😊
How long does this take to make roughly? xx
Pls help me out 🙏 how is your waist 96cm??
She meant the hip measurement. She said waist by mistake. 🌻
Calculations confusing. Had to get my carpenter husband to help with corrections! Lol You meant hip measurement not waist at beginning. 😂
I dont think information is correct you're tiny any 96 must be hip not waist. Asdume need hip measurement to calculate correct
Wie krass man hört, dass Du Deutsche bist, keine Kritik, ist nur extrem auffällig
How rude are you😡😡😡 what has that to do with her lesson? Nothing.
