      Mordrayso I love how the first thing that went through my mind wasn’t World of Warcraft, it was Major Payne 😂😂

      Justice Kelley you are correct!! While I am a WoW girl... the reference was from Major Payne. That movie gets quoted a lot in our house!!

      Thank you ✌🏼 We lucked out and got hooked up!!! They gave us a bit of a discount with Allison being a combat Veteran. We’d definitely say it’s worth it to get it done if you can!

    Hey guys thanks so much for your in depth video. We are a family of 3 who are planning on spending 3 months on three months off between our home in Australia and our beloved US/Canada. Your video makes it seem a whole lot less daunting and gives some wonderful tips and pointers. Thanks again and feel free to message back if you like.

    Looks better than any I've seen done so far.i have been in construction management and engineering for forty years. I couldn't tell if there was any insulation under that water tank though it doesn't need to sit on that metal floor.

      Harold Gatlin the water tank is sitting on top of a floating subfloor constructed of 2x4s and insulation foam :)

    Hi guys I hope your build is coming along great. My wife and I are all caught up on your videos and can't wait to see more. I'm definitely interested in spraying our van too, how well does it insulate? We're in the desert and wonder which method of insulation would be the best. Thanks for taking the time to record your journey for us!!

    • @TwoNerdsInABus
      @TwoNerdsInABus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So far, it's worked great for us!! We noticed the difference almost immediately. The weather has been pretty hot here this summer and with the A/C running we've been very comfortable. Best of luck to you guys :)

    Enjoying your videos.. Have you guys posted your floor plans online. Interesting where you built the platform. What plans do you have to replace windows if they get broken. I see you are framing the windows in.. Also. What was the cost on the insulation? Keepem coming .

    • @TwoNerdsInABus
      @TwoNerdsInABus  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have not posted our floor plan yet but will be doing that in our next video. The platform plan has actually changed already so we will be updating everyone on that as well. If the windows get broken, we still have all the other windows. We are probably going to leave them at a parents house for safe keeping. Also tossing around the idea, if one breaks we remove the whole window add some sheet metal and get an RV window. It cost $1800 to get sprayed but Allison is an injured Navy Vet so they discounted it nicely for us.

  • @stevehendrickson3425
    @stevehendrickson3425 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you run any channels for wiring. Or plumping before the insulation? If not why and did you have any problems with running the wiring?

  • @jdeveloperw
    @jdeveloperw 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey guys, I love your videos! I'm building out an RV from a (transit) bus, and I'm researching insulation right now. I'm definitely considering spray foam, but Polyisocyanurate might be quite a bit cheaper. What were some of the reasons you chose spray foam? And about how much did it cost? Thanks!

  • @scottriedesel
    @scottriedesel 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great work you guys. Just wondering if the insulation you added makes up for all the windows? I'm pondering the window thing myself. I live in Arkansas, so lately cold isn't a real issue like northern states or up east. Just wanting a experience view. Thanks so much, your conversion is inspiring.

    • @TwoNerdsInABus
      @TwoNerdsInABus  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it helps, we would install RV windows if we did the project again. Its more about if anything happens to a window, we would have to rip down the walls to get it replaced or leave the old window and seal it up. Both manageable but ideally you want RV windows :)

    Hi there! I would like to know the make and year of your bus, as this this seems to be important as far as details of construction go. You seem to have much more head room than our '81 Ward. Thank you for your response!

    • @scottkennedy7535
      @scottkennedy7535 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bus is a 98’ blue bird all American with a cat 3116 engine. The reason we have the head room is because we raised the roof 18” ☺️

      John Mann to get the bus sprayed it cost the same as buying 2 - 600 board foot kits from Home Depot. So it was a matter of spending the same amount to do it ourselves or hire the professionals. Easy choice there 😃🚌

    • @TwoNerdsInABus
      @TwoNerdsInABus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Holleran Properties we paid around $1000, which is close to the price of two diy spray-foam kits!! Compass Insulation gave us a bit of a discount with Allison being a Combat Veteran!

  • @PatrickBaptist
    @PatrickBaptist 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would never use that spray insulation, it is toxic and more so if not applied just perfect and in the correct weather. I'd just opt for the styroboard insulator. You can research and find people that have spent loads of money rebuilding their home because they had to get rid of the insulation to live there and some straight up left and won't live there anymore and stuck paying for it.... All over spray foam.

    • @TwoNerdsInABus
      @TwoNerdsInABus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patrick Baptist not sure where you are getting your information from but there are a wide selection of spray foam insulation. Some are super harmful and others not so much. Definitely do your research and you will be fine. We went with a less harsh spray but we also lost a few R points because of it.

    I was just wondering, do you need a special kind of drivers licence to drive a bus or a bus conversion?

    • @TwoNerdsInABus
      @TwoNerdsInABus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tanja in Ohio you do not need a special license

    • @theadventureawaits
      @theadventureawaits 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You guy's are so lucky! I'm from the Netherlands (Europe, near Amsterdam) and we need a special truck drivers licence! Which costs us around 2000 euro's to get! We are planning on buying a bus one day and convert it too. First travel Europe and then we'll see where we can go! I haven't seen all of your video's ( am going to now ;) ) but where are you planning on traveling to and for how long? And how you are you going to make money ? Patreon and youtube?

    • @TwoNerdsInABus
      @TwoNerdsInABus  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tanja that’s a great plan! Good luck! We are planning to travel the US, Canada and Mexico for about 2 years then heading overseas for awhile and see as much as we can. Both of us can work from the road but were hoping to monetize off TH-cam and hopefully get some support on go fund me as well! Hope you like our videos 😊

    How to you replace a broken window after your framing is done?

    • @TwoNerdsInABus
      @TwoNerdsInABus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We will be sealing over any of the windows that break. Could always pry off the trim we put up and unscrew the framing pieces but if a skoolie window breaks we will want to replace with an RV window. Looking back on things we would NOT keep the school bus windows.

    The cost of spray foam and keeping the original bus windows dont make sense. You will lose every bit of insulation value in the spray foam thru the windows. Better to use foam board as much less cost and spray foam any gaps. That would save you half the cost of spray foam.

      Just saw your reply on a similar comment. I’d also stay away from any house building/construction materials. Stick to automotive-type sealants. Those are much more durable for a moving object like your awesome bus. Once the seal breaks on the “wrong” sealant, water gets in and gets trapped and the nightmares begin. Definitely something you don’t want to have after putting all the stuff in. Also, are you guys treating the wood that goes in the floor, walls, and ceiling? I always see plain wood being installed and no one ever mentions treating it. Makes me wonder if it’ll hold up over time to mold, etc given that there is going to be some moisture (more than in a house) in the bus, particularly near the outer shell where water might condensates. I’m no bus expert but am fantasizing about building/converting one so thanks for the awesome videos :)
