When I bought my AC30 in 1980, there were 4 brought to the States, Joe Walsh got 2 of them. I bought 1, as did a friend. I used to chain the Brilliant and Tremolo channels together. It used to scare recording engineers, who were used to the Thomas Organ VOX stuff.
I have a 64 AC30. I hardly ever play clean stuff like this on it. Crank the damn thing to find tone heaven. Hot Cake on the top boost or treble boost on the normal channel. Sorted.
James Norton Official completely agree with you I was a fender guy before I discovered vox amps mainly because I'm in southern California near the fender factory they are very easy to come by as where old vox amps are rare but man when I first played a vox it was like night and day they have such a full tonal spectrum unlike anything else I've ever played through it was such a noticeable difference that I sold all my vintage fender amps and completely switched over to vox
@@TheGman858, I went through the same journey: '66 Vibrolux Reverb, "66 Deluxe Reverb, '60 Super, '63 Bandmaster, "65 Twin Reverb, "66 Vibro-Champ, etc. Then Vox happened to me. My '65 Pro Reverb was my last hold-out, but I finally had to let it go as it just sat and looked pretty while my Voxes got all the attention.
@@ebeep nice man fender amps are great but they just don't compare to the old voxes I had a 68 twin reverb a 72 quad reverb that I had blackfaced and a 63 champ all were fantastic amps the quad reverb had the best sounding reverb tank I've ever had the pleasure of owning but when I played through a 63 candy panel ac30 I knew immediately that it was time to make the switch I have a trapezoid head and alnico blue cab candy panel ac30 and one of those 60th anniversary handwired ac15 amps and I couldn't be happier with them something very special about vox Cheers from one vox guy to another
I’ve got a 1962 JMI AC-30 all original. On the speaker there’s a small white sticker with 1462 written in biro - does this mean the amp was built on 1st April 1962 ? If anyone can help I’d be massively grateful ? Cheers 🥂
Great playing, but we don't really get to hear what the AC30 is famous for. The true personality of the amp emerges as the output stage begins to grind. The "blizzard of nails". Would love to hear another demo with all 3 turned way up, no master volume control in the way.
why does everybody bridge the TB and the normal channel? They are out of phase... Tis sound gets so much better in amps where both channels are connected to different input of the phase inverter, which means that they are in phase.
Hey Chris! My thoughts hmm..I have tried couple of this original england made voxs and all sound differend, same with reissues, they sound just differend but basic sound character is same and most likely you will end up with same sound, no matter what era your vox will be. Imo all new vox's sound good
Superbly demonstrates the clarity and gorgeous tones of Vox amps. Thanx v much ! Enjoyed loads. Rx
I could listen to your playing all day, that sounded so nice, awesome demo for the AC30 variations.
Yea something about a Vox AC-30 is just magical..

I'm a Shadows fan and a Vox ac30 fan .....so I loved your video . Great
Gorgeous sounds.
Thank you for the comparisons!
Fantastic video! Wonderful instruction! Thank you very much.
I own two Vox ac30's.
One is a 1964 and the other a 1996. Both made in England. Both have blue speakers
But man they sound different!
This three sound very different in that room, but when I mic them, all are very similar
Chinese one sounds the best to me...I had an AC15HW1 from Vietnam which sounded good too. :)
Vox is king in my book.

The one made in China is more full and Dumblesk sounding. The 65 is a really familiar classic sound.
Normal Channel si différent on the H2 With ef86 preamp

What about the top boost channel and the vib/trem channel? Are they in phase?
Why do people say that the reissues don't like like the originals? What are your thoughts?

Amazing sounds!!!!! I want one of them!!! All of them are equipped with Alnico Blues? Or is there any with greenbacks?
2007 and -75 is equipped with blue ones and -65 got silverbells (silver alnico)
I didn't like the Made in China amp. The other two were fantastic!
Crystal clean AC30s are yawn city. CRANK EM
Chinese Voxes are no Voxes! Magic killed by Chinese Dollars! Shame on you Vox Management! You have sold your soul!!
Chinese dollars? Wtf lol. "Vox Management" are Japanese so I'm sure they don't see producing amps in China as selling their soul.
set too clean - no complexity in overtones.
@Ed Berger I think Mr. Marvin doesn't care.
