      I'm re-watching season 2, and honestly there's no way anyone can say it's bad. It's objectively extremely good TV. Is it as good as 1 and 3? No, but it certainly isn't bad. This is my third time re-watching it over a span of many years and I appreciate more every time I see it. It's just complicated and I think so different from the first season that he threw everyone off.

  • @ams914
    @ams914 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    The ending completely jumped the shark. There was no reason for the dad to shoot the junkie, at all. The writer just wanted that outcome and it was very obviously contrived. Him also going to shoot Jodie Foster's character was also stupid. Wasn't he merely offered a promotion to Chief or something? He's willing to murder two people to get promoted? WTF? Also, you don't shoot someone in the back of the head when they're on the ground if you're trying to make it look like you didn't execute someone.

    God, thank you, I thought I was crazy watching this fucking disaster and reading all the comments on the promotion saying it’s better than season 1. Anyone saying this is in the same league as season 1 is not a genuine person and Is just objectively wrong. There’s actual objective truths about narrative construction that this show just completely fails to understand. This show contains some of the worst character development I’ve ever seen in media, no exaggeration. In episode one of season 1 I already know who Rust and Marty are, I know their names, first and last. Their names ring throughout my head not allowing them to be forgotten, I couldn’t even tell you the characters first names until like episode 5. These characters are not enjoyable to spend time with, they have no chemistry and this show almost makes Jodi Foster seem like she can’t act. Night Country has severe try hard energy and of course all the marketing leads with “this is a native story about native people” therefore if you are criticizing it you just hate native people and your racist and sexist. The true signs of show that has nothing to say, they know they can hide behind the DEI of it all. Say what you want about season 2 and 3 but they at least tried, Night Country shits on this show’s legacy, the two previous seasons just simply failed to live up to its legend.

    You are one of the few critics out there actually speaking the truth about night country. None have made fun of it on this level and really picked it apart scene by scene. You did a great job with this series and look forward to seeing more from this channel.
    The other day I got into a back and forth with a critic about "art" saying they are justified in liking night country because it's technically art and everyone will perceive it differently. I would argue that a TV show can be art, but there is a formula to every good cop show/movie, and night country goes against that on all fronts, in a bad way, which makes it an objectively bad cop show. So if you really want to take it in as a piece of art (which it fails at that part too) you can, but at the very least, it's an objectively bad cop show.
    And I don't understand how the actress playing Navarro is getting so much praise. Every line she says is beyond cringe. It's been hilarious watching her try to act every week.
    I can't wait to wrap up this pile of donkey sh*t on Sunday and see what they pull. Is Peter the bad guy? Was it spongebob submissive? Was Rose really a ghost this whole time? No one cares at this point.
    Also I'm disappointed that you didn't mention Danvers line to Peter at the end "you clean, and you clean good"💀

    • @LuekReviews
      @LuekReviews  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You bring up a really interesting point about art. I would call Night Country cheap entertainment, because it doesn't seem to have a greater point or conmunicate anything that couldn't be tersely said out loud. I know I'm not the arbiter of what qualifies as art, but to me art should be interpretable.

    • @LuekReviews
      @LuekReviews  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      1. It's a cliche, and Night Country LOVES its cliches.
      2. A previous scene has directly compared SpongeBob Toothbrush to Hannibal Lecter by referencing Silence of the Lambs.
      3. SpongeBob Toothbrush was shown to have a generator, which was clunkily pointed out with regards to the ice cave.
      4. Evangeline said something earlier along the lines of, "Look out SpongeBob Toothbrush! You're definitely going to get eaten by a dog later in the show."
      5. He magically found Tagaq's Rock which Evangeline magically lost.
      I'm sure there's some more but I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

    Spot on. So many errors and crap writing. My newest hatewatch fix. “Control v! Control v!” If I hear “ask the question” one more time…sheesh! Every dramatic sequence is totally contrived. Night Contrived.
    Edit to add: as of Feb. 13, the RT critics score is down to 78% (still way too high and suspiciously so) while audience score is 57%. Quite the disparity.

      Circling back to correct my comment above. Those RT numbers I posted are for the entire True Detective anthology - all seasons. Someone on reddit graciously corrected me, and I appreciate it! The numbers for Night Country (S4) are, as of Feb. 18, 93% (critics/shills?) and 64% (audience).

    Thebrimtruth, you did a good job so far 😊
    I am also not hopeful that we will get satisfying answers to all that questions! However, I read somewhere that the final episode will be 80 minutes long. That might provide a bit more room. But I don't understand why the 4th season doesn't have 8 episodes like all three previous TD seasons!
    Anyway, let's visit some of your questions. We have discussed if Rose's character is a real human being from the very first episode, and I changed my mind about her more than once. I really don't think anymore that she is a ghost. There are too many valid arguments against that theory. Then I thought she is a witch - a nice witch like Professor Minerva McGonnagal, and incidently Rose used to be a Professor, too, and the actress is connected with the Potter-Verse. Is this just an inside joke? And when there are deities like Sedna there should be room for witches as well. And how does Rose know that the spiral, which has been called witch craft btw, is older than the ice around Ennis?? I am more curious about Rose than about who killed Annie K 😉 Whatever, there's another possibility: all the weird stuff with Rose only happened when she was with Navarro! Rose isn't a ghost or a superheroine. But it's possible that all the interactions between Rose and Navarro happen only in Navarro's mind! Something about Rose may trigger these fantasies or hallucinations in Navarro, but not in all the other people who interact with Rose. She may have some paranormal powers. Then there is the question what her real name is. Why didn't she just tell Navarro who she is? Is she a member of the Tuttle family?? That would at least explain why the audience isn't supposed to know this 😉 But.. but.. all Tuttles are evil, and Rose doesn't seem to be evil! Well, maybe, we are wrong. Or Rose is a good Tuttle! Who says that they are all evil?
    I cannot wait to find out more about Rose. But I would be sorely disappointed if she is just a nice old woman who used to be the girlfriend of Rust Cole's dad!

    Love the video man! I’m a fan of the series but this season is a tough watch lol all the supernatural bs really takes me out of it. All the forced heavy handed season 1 connections are pretty poorly written in and annoying. Kayla and Leah have got to be some of the worst written and most unlikeable characters ever 😂 and Danvers telling Kate Otis’s name and all other relevant information on the case when she was clearly suspicious of her was pretty bad writing and out of character. I’m still having fun here though lol we will see how this final episode goes!

      @npmerrill 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Apparently Issa Lopez replied to a redditor’s Instagram comment explaining (among other things) that Danvers tells Kate (mine lady) all about Otis Heiss because she wants to gauge her reaction (she’s “fishing for answers”).
      This is plausible, I suppose, but what’s more interesting is the fact that Lopez is responding to viewers’ questions and critiques at all. Even when such criticisms are answerable, a showrunner answering them on social media reeks of desperation, especially in light of the lower-than-expected audience reviews. The show is a mess. I hope Lopez focuses on just making better entertainment in the future.
