    I'm an atheist but I absolutely love this movie's story. The fact that the worst tragedy Mel Gibsons character experiences becomes the most beautiful miracle is what I consider Shyamalan geniusness.

    Whenever I hear this music I see the anguish in Gibson's face as he holds his son. There's a deep felt pleading with God. Then his son asks, "Did Someone save me?" The tears come..such a powerful, deeply moving, faith filled scene.

      Always, agreed (see amazing music of Wyatt Earp, for example. But this time he's got the Holy Spirit flowing through him too - and that is the je ne sais quoi we have in this particular piece of music. God is in it.

    If you've seen this movie and aren't religious, I completely understand why you probably wouldn't like it. I for one one am devoutly religious so personally I loved the outcome that resulted in Mel Gibsons character finding his faith. Never the less, whether your atheist, agnostic or religious, you have to agree that this soundtrack is beautiful.

      But there is an intermediate stage, and once I went through it. Even if a viewer does NOT believe, they can still admire the perfect vision and cohesion (and sheer bold assertiveness!) of a movie that does believe. And paradoxically, M. Night Shyamalan does not pretend to be deeply religious. But he did realise there was a need to give people hope after 9/11 - and from the moment of that realisation he was - whether he knew it or not - in the wonderful guidance of the Holy Spirit, as was James Newton Howard as he put together this music. As with the film's characters, so with the film's makers, there is no necessity to even be aware of participating in God's unfolding plan. Indeed, the plan is so complex we could not possibly see more than a tiny part of the big picture. But I believe the big picture IS there, and the signs in "Signs" can readily transfer out into a real world beyond the cinema. We do indeed need to open our eyes, stop being blind and "see". I HAVE seen myself, though did not necessarily expect to; and I know that great works of art and civilisation are one of many conduits can help us to reach the higher, better, deeper and more joyful things. Nature is another.

      Life is not meant to make sense. Religious or not we all play the game, and we go into the same box at the end of that game... metaphorically speaking.

    • @sidpheasant7585
      @sidpheasant7585 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Quite so. Tears because in the context of a film about "seeing", we also can "see" as this music helps to open our eyes. And - like "Love Actually" - the movie was specifically an antidote to 9/11. Those who don't get it would be amazed by that, but if we acknowledge the message from God that it represents, then everything falls into place.

      You see there are many of us here in the same boat. Whether it is saving the planet or defeating COVID, the answers all boil down to love. That is why we struggle, why we go the extra mile, why we can try to be what God would like us to be. And how wonderful that the Holy Spirit did not need to "take over" either Shyamalan or Newton Howard to make them produce these works of art in praise of God. Clearly, this is THEIR work ... but made stronger, better, purer, deeper, truer and more lovely thanks to God. The Trinity can do the same for EVERY ONE OF US if we finally "see". How wonderful that a movie that is about this also has that effect on us out here in audience land!

      The film and this DIVINE music both tell us that the peace IS within reach. Just waiting for us if we choose to take it. We have free will, but God's love is available at any time, even if it may mean us taking up our Cross to walk with Jesus. The path to joy can involve burden, but it is one we can carry...

    I like how sudden the first part of "Hand of Fate" changes from intense like all hope is lost, then to this when you find that last glimmer that there's still a chance. Just as the lesson in this movie goes for life, terrible things happen and will happen to everyone, but remember that your not alone and that there's always a way. Fate is decided from the very beginning and that things happen in sequence. Let time move and nature do its job, and live life to its fullest and happiest.

    • @sidpheasant7585
      @sidpheasant7585 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think fate is decided, because we can close ourselves and refuse to choose the paths that are offered to us. But of course you are right that redemption comes when hope seems to be lost.

    This hand of fate and part one have to be the best compositions off any movie f'ing EVER!!! Seriously, I want the people who care about me to hear this at my funeral. It would remind them of all the great times we had. God I can feel the notes harmonizing with my soul. What was James Newton Howard thinking? Probably thinking about his newborn daughter, totally fits.

    One of the best scores I've ever heard. it used to make me want to cry (and if I hadn't been deadened by tiredness from a long nap right now I might, listening to this) and the whole thing sounds so spiritual. @2:39 always made me think of how it sounded when you entered Heaven. your family is crying but you enter the most perfect place. oh crap, now I am going to cry D;

    • @sidpheasant7585
      @sidpheasant7585 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course, that's PRECISELY it, and it's wonderful how many of is on here get it. But we don't have to wait for heaven. A little piece of this is available to us now too. "Signs" is a human achievement, made on our planet by people ... yet going FAR beyond it as well. And, as I keep noting in my posts, it was made specifically to counter the unspeakable evil of 9/11. At first glance that seems a pathetically inadequate response. At second glance it looks 1000 times more powerful and meaningful.

      +Dominique Deguire Definitely one of Shyamalan's best films, made even better by an outstanding musical score!

      Your taste is terrible. Wonderful human drama framed within a scenario of childish fears

      You're the one with shitty taste. Apart from the score, the film is a pretentious mess with so many plot holes and underwhelming antagonists.
