I ran 35mm tires for a while. Finally got tired of rear pinch flats (even running tubeless) and put on 40mm. So much better. Just as fast, more grip, more confidence in large gravel, etc. Loving the change.
Never mistake a Retired Pro’s intrinsic need to beat each over having fun. You can say verbally or in your mind to yourself all day otherwise. “Having fun”, is when you’re riding with us mere mortals. 🙏🏻 I missed the part where you didn’t bring your XTR and Shimano MTB S-Phyre’s and instead brought road shoes for accepting Speedplays 😂

If it makes you feel better, my XTR pedals and cleats got jammed up with mud too on that bastard climb. Great to see you there and meet you, briefly, at the Silca booth!
So awesome. Ps tried to do Mt Washington last weekend. After all the drivers went up, they cancelled it and the rain day was rained out too. No Mt Washington hillclimb this year.
That HLL CLMB is probably the most fun spectating I have ever done! Missed you out there on the black course Sunday. Next year give it a go! There are plenty of hills on that course for you to smash.
There is skijump running hillclimb in Lahti Finland called: Red Bull 400.
Phil probably knows this but just in case, those were grasshoppers, not dragonflies. Great video man 😊

I was like 'Did he say Valtteri Bottas'? IT'S VALTTERI BOTTAS!!!! Also, the first bike race I ever saw was a crit in downtown Chicago where Pete's dad and uncle battled Lemond for the win. I think one of the Stetinas won in a two up break with Greg. Greg went to Europe the next month. It's a great foggy memory. Yeah, my two favorite sports are bike racing and F1.
I was actually in that race and I randomly road next to Lemond for about 1/4 lap.

@@larrylem3582 From what I have seen in the past, you find a bike with the correct pedals for your shoes and close enough size. Its terrible. Its wonderful. Its definitely amusing.

Fun video that gave nice perspective to a great event, but most everyone knows that Speedplay road pedals suck in any mud. I have been locked in and locked out of them due to mud, more times that I can count… great otherwise, but never in the dirt….
Maybe next time a relay with Mike Woods doing the running bit. Actually he can do the climbing bit too....

Every pedal stroke you pull up you're losing efficiency on the downstroke. Proven studies Medline and elsevier. It's physiologically impossible to be 100% efficient on both the downstroke and the upstroke at the same time so either you're focusing on the downstroke and creating more power or you're losing power on the downstroke because you're focusing on the upstroke. Now that you're riding a mountain bike, ditch the clips and go to Flats. You will improve your pedalling efficiency and you will understand on how to take advantage of all your potential power on the downstroke Phil.
